Crooked Anti-Trump FBI Agent Files Lawsuit Against the Bureau
Disgraced former FBI Agent Peter Strzok, whose bias against Donald Trump helped originate and perpetuate the phony Russian witch hunt against both Trump the candidate and Trump the President, has filed a major lawsuit against the Bureau, accusing them of violating his rights by firing him and leaking his text messages to the public.
“In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, Strzok excoriates the Justice Department and FBI for their handling of his dismissal over a trove of text messages he wrote to a colleague that were critical of Trump,” Politico reports. “Strzok accuses the president of inappropriately bullying law enforcement officials deciding his fate, raises questions about why his texts were leaked to the media and lambastes the administration for only defending its employees’ free speech rights when they are praising Trump.”
Strzok’s troubles, however, began well before President Trump had anything to say about the agent. He was dismissed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team in the early months of the investigation after his text messages with lover and FBI lawyer Lisa Page came to light. In those messages, Strzok’s bias against Trump (and favoritism towards Hillary Clinton) was exposed. Worse, the messages indicated that Strzok’s political preferences may have played a role in how he handled the official FBI investigations – into both Russian collusion and the Hillary Clinton email scandal.
The totality of Strzok’s wrongdoing became clear to the public after Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released his 500-page report on the FBI’s handling of these dual investigations. In the report, Horowitz singles out Strzok’s texts as showing the kind of hateful animus towards Trump that could have easily affected his official duties as an FBI investigator.
Trump has weighed in on Strzok’s fate, however. After Strzok was fired by the FBI, Trump wrote: “Fired FBI Agent Peter Strzok is a fraud, as is the rigged investigation he started. There was no Collusion or Obstruction with Russia, and everybody, including the Democrats, know it. The only Collusion and Obstruction was by Crooked Hillary, the Democrats and the DNC!”
That, however, offers no evidence that Trump was personally involved in deciding Strzok’s professional fate.
If we look at this lawsuit through a pragmatic lens – i.e., it will be decided by a Washington, D.C. jury in an era where anti-Trump judgements and rulings have become commonplace, even when they defy reason and law – then it’s not a stretch to imagine that Strzok will get the compensation he’s after. In reality, though, there are few FBI agents in the history of the Bureau who deserved their firing any more than Peter Strzok. Rather than filing lawsuits, he should be thanking his lucky stars that he isn’t under criminal investigation himself.
In fact, he may be sorry that he poked this particular bear.
