Iran Claims to Be Sending Military Forces to U.S., Europe

According to a military leader within Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Islamic Republic is sending elite special forces to the United States and Europe at the command of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

In a statement to Iranian state media, IRGC coordinator Salar Abnoush said, “The whole world should know that the IRGC will be in the U.S. and Europe very soon.”

Abnoush said that these infiltrators would carry out goals on behalf of their home country, including disrupting plots against the hardline Islamic regime.

“The IRGC is the strong guardian of the Islamic Republic,” Abnoush said. “Defending and protecting [the Supreme Leader] has no border and limit.”

As is the case with anything coming out of Iran, you can’t necessarily tell what’s propaganda and what’s to be taken seriously. Of course, when you’re talking about comments meant for both domestic and international consumption, those lines are blurry to begin with. One can easily turn into the other, given enough support within the Iranian citizenry. And Islamic hardliners are desperate to explain to their people why a sudden influx of Western cash is unlikely to make a difference to the broader economy. Why, we’re using it to battle our enemies, guys! Duh.

“Our enemies have several projects to destroy our Islamic revolution, and have waged three wars against us to execute their plans against our Islamic Republic,” Abnoush said. “The IRGC has defeated enemies in several fronts. The enemy surrendered and accepted to negotiate with us.

“And now all of our problems are being solved and our country is becoming stronger in all fronts. Some believe the holy defense ended,” he continued. “They are wrong; the holy defense continues, and today, it is more complicated than before.”

Too “complicated” for their citizens to grasp, in other words. Don’t worry your pretty little heads, guys and gals. Our Supreme Leader knows what’s best for you.

Unfortunately, it’s not as fun to mock Iranian propaganda as it is the nonsense coming out of North Korea. Because unlike Kim Jong Un, who is still regarded by the Obama administration as a serious threat to international stability, the Islamic Republic is being afforded a veneer of respectability.

Respectability and, oh, about $1.7 billion in frozen funds.

As distracted as we’ve all been by the 2016 election, it’s worth remembering once in a while how disastrous the Obama administration has been. Because if the hardliners in Iran get their way – and they probably will – Obama’s foreign failures are going to manifest as catastrophe over the next four years.
