Public Health Officials: Protesting is More Important Than Social Distancing

In perhaps the most irresponsible statement we’ve ever seen from people who are supposed to be healthcare professionals, a group of more than 1,200 public health officials explained in an open letter than as important as it is to maintain social distancing amidst a virus that has killed more than 100,000 Americans, it’s actually more important to go out into the crowds and protest against the evil racism that pervades the country.

“White supremacy is a lethal public health issue that predates and contributes to COVID-19,” the woke doctors and nurses wrote in a letter than originated at the University of Washington.

“Staying at home, social distancing, and public masking are effective at minimizing the spread of COVID-19. To the extent possible, we support the application of these public health best practices during demonstrations that call attention to the pervasive lethal force of white supremacy,” they continued. “However, as public health advocates, we do not condemn these gatherings as risky for COVID-19 transmission. We support them as vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of Black people in the United States.

“This should not be confused with a permissive stance on all gatherings, particularly protests against stay-home orders,” the letter continued. “Those actions not only oppose public health interventions, but are also rooted in white nationalism and run contrary to respect for Black lives. Protests against systemic racism, which fosters the disproportionate burden of COVID-19 on Black communities and also perpetuates police violence, must be supported.”

Uh-huh. So let’s just get this straight, from a scientific perspective. Lockdown protests, such as the ones we saw in Michigan and North Carolina, are wrong and risk spreading the coronavirus to vulnerable populations. On the other hand, BLM protests (if they can still reasonably be called protests) against police racism are just fine…because reasons. Apparently, the coronavirus is considerate enough about matters of social justice to leave anti-racist protesters alone. Who knew?

We’re sure these heath officials, numerous though they may be, do not speak for the entire healthcare industry. Unfortunately, giving them an outsized platform (as the overwhelmingly pro-rioting mainstream media will) only serves to confuse the public and cast further doubt on the validity of the coronavirus lockdowns in the first place.

Good luck getting anyone to follow restrictions in the future if we see a huge spike in cases. We’re through the looking glass now, and if hospitals start filling up again, we’re sure the blame will go to “racist police” instead of foolish protesters and weak Democratic leaders.
