Re-Election Imminent: Trump Hits Highest Approval Numbers Ever!
According to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, President Donald Trump is now enjoying the highest job approval numbers of his presidency. Standing at 44% approval, Trump’s numbers are up a full 5 points from April and 2 points from the previous peak of his tenure in office. More remarkably, these numbers come as the media is going full-bore against the president, blaming him for the “children in cages” crisis at the border, withholding any and all credit for the booming economy, and focusing relentlessly on the attacks coming at him from 2020 Democratic candidates.
But then, overcoming the pointed spear of the mainstream media is nothing new for this president.
“Fifty-one percent approve of Trump’s handling of the economy, more than half for the first time in his presidency,” reports ABC News. “His approval ratings across eight other issues all are substantially lower, ranging from 42% on handling taxes to 29% on global warming.
“Personally, moreover, a broad 65% say that since taking office Trump ‘has acted in a way that’s unpresidential,’ not far from the 70% who said so in mid-2017 and early 2018 alike. Just 28% in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates, say his behavior is ‘fitting and proper’ for a president,” the report continues.
Additionally, the poll found that opposition to Trump’s impeachment has grown 13% since April. At this point, 59% of American voters think that Democrats should drop any movement towards impeachment, a number that will undoubtedly rankle the Jerrold Nadlers and Adam Schiffs of the world.
To be blunt, even a 44% approval rating, though, is not great. And it is obvious why it’s that low: The media has painted every last second of this presidency as an unmitigated disaster. The truth – that it has been an extraordinarily successful first term marked by a strong economy, no new foreign wars, and significant tax cuts – is masked by all of this negative coverage. Oh, you’re doing well, you’re family is doing well, and the country is doing well? Eh, let’s talk about how Trump is running “concentration camps” at the border, instead.
It will therefore be Trump’s task to break through the cacophony of negativity if he wants to make re-election happen next November. The bad news is that the media will be doing everything it can to sink those chances.
The good news? Trump has beaten that machine before.
