Reckless Pelosi Pushes Bill Giving Congress the Power to Remove the President
What has been the number one criticism of Democrats since the 2016 election? That they would not accept their loss, right? That they would use any measures necessary to remove Donald Trump from the presidency. This has been demonstrated from the first moments, when they pushed to have Electoral College representatives go against the will of the people. It continued throughout their efforts to prove that Trump was in collusion with the Russians. And, of course, it culminated in the ugly and disastrous impeachment of the president for a phone call (of all things).
And here we are, with only weeks to go until the election, and they’re still trying to get this man out of the White House. On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi proudly unveiled a new bill that would give Congress a big role in determining whether or not the President of the United States should be removed via the 25th Amendment. And while Pelosi went out of her way to say it’s “not for us to decide’ whether or not Trump should be removed, the reason for this sudden legislation could hardly be more obvious.
“The move, which comes after Trump’s recent coronavirus diagnosis, would establish a process to effectively give Congress a say in removing a president from office under the 25th Amendment of the Constitution, which allows for a president to be removed from office if a majority of Cabinet members and the vice president consider him unable to carry out his duties,” reports CNN. “Section four of the 25th Amendment also says that if a majority of a body established by law, along with the vice president, declare in writing that if the president is disabled and unable to do his job, the vice president immediately becomes the acting president.”
If the bill were to pass, that body would be created. Introduced by Pelosi and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the legislation would supposedly only be applied to future presidents.
“This is not about President Trump. He will face the judgment of the voters, but he shows the need for us to create a process for future presidents,” Pelosi said. “This legislation applies to future presidents, but we are reminded of the necessity of action by the health of the current president.”
But those words are undermined by the fact that this bill stands absolutely no chance of actually getting through the Senate, much less securing the signature of President Trump. That shows the bill to be what it is – a cynical October surprise meant to put the thought in the minds of voters: President Trump does not have the physical/mental ability to carry out his duties.
In a tweet Friday, Trump turned the tables on the House Speaker.
“Crazy Nancy Pelosi is looking at the 25th Amendment in order to replace Joe Biden with Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote. “The Dems want that to happen fast because Sleepy Joe is out of it!!!”
