Shame on Democrats for Applauding This Dirty Cop

Democrats have had a lot of low moments over the past year and a half, but none were lower than the moment on Thursday when House lawmakers broke into spontaneous applause for FBI Agent Peter Strzok’s showboating answer in front of the Oversight and Judiciary Committees.

“I have the utmost respect for Congress’s oversight role, but I truly believe that today’s hearing is just another victory notch in Putin’s belt and another milestone in our enemies’ campaign to tear America apart,” Strzok said in an obviously rehearsed answer. “As someone who loves this country and cherishes its ideals, it is profoundly painful to watch and even worse to play a part in.”

We don’t doubt that it was “profoundly painful” for Strzok to sit for his grilling on Thursday, but we don’t quite understand why ANY American lawmaker would give this man an ovation. Through both his text messages and his actions, Strzok has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he allowed his personal political biases to affect his job, which included being one of the chief investigators on the Hillary Clinton email case and the Trump/Russia collusion case. How Democrats could sit there and listen to the man who once pledged he would “stop” Trump from being elected President of the United States and find him worthy of applause…well, it ought to be shocking, but we suppose it isn’t. It’s par for the course.

The FBI, the Department of Justice, and the Democratic Party showed the world on Thursday that they are far less interested in getting to the truth about Trump and Russia than they are about preserving the reputation of their respective entities. Or, you might say, those entities as they existed under the Obama regime. This is not about Putin. This is not even about whether or not anyone in Donald Trump’s orbit had conversations with Russian officials. This is about covering up the fact that the Obama administration used the nation’s law enforcement and counterintelligence agencies as weapons against a political adversary.

Even now, we have no idea how deep the tentacles of this conspiracy ran. Perhaps it was limited to only a few people “in the know.” Perhaps it was an open secret. Whatever the case, Strzok was undoubtedly a knowing and willing participant. His text messages make his motivations obvious. “F*ck Trump.” “Trump is a disaster.” Referring to Trump’s supporters as “ignorant hillbillies.” Telling his girlfriend that no, Trump would not become president because “we’ll stop it.” These are the texts of a man who cannot separate his professional duties from his personal animus. The question is, in working for James Comey, Loretta Lynch, and ultimately Barack Obama, if he ever really had to.

Unfortunately, that’s not a question Democrats are interested in answering.
