What Happens When You Won’t Call a Girl a Boy?
Ten years ago, this story would have been on the front page of every newspaper in America. School staff members fired because they wouldn’t respect a 6-year-old girl’s decision to live as a boy? It would have been unthinkable, even if the school in question was a private daycare facility. First of all, what kind of ridiculous nonsense would inspire a parent to guide their child down such a fundamentally idiotic path? Second, what could the school’s administrators possibly be thinking by endorsing this kind of psychological torture?
But in 2015, things have changed. And this story, like most of the stories that gain traction in conservative media, will be largely ignored by the mainstream press. It’s now an accepted fact that transgenderism is a valid life choice. We have to respect and tolerate this 6-year-old’s decision to jump the gender fence, and we must use all of the right pronouns so as to avoid hurting anyone’s feelings.
And if you don’t? Welp, enjoy the unemployment line.
That’s what Madeline Kirksey was told. The manager of Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center in Katy, Texas was fired Monday for refusing a directive to call a 6-year-old girl by a new, masculine name.
The child’s parents, according to the report, cut the little girl’s hair, dressed her as a boy, and requested that school workers begin treating her as such. The school eagerly responded to this request, even passing out a little handbook for their staff members to peruse. “How to Handle Transgender Students” helpfully explained to the teachers that they were standing at the precipice of a new civil rights movement:
Like the first black student in a white school 30 years ago, the transgender student today faces a population that finds them strange and frightening.
Kirksey had her doubts. “One day, she wanted to be a girl, the next day she wanted to be a boy,” she told local reporters. “The other kids are confused as well, calling her a boy and she would start screaming, ‘I’m not a boy!’”
Moreover, Kirksey thought it was wrong to teach students about the transgender lifestyle without talking to the other parents first. Officials directed her not to do so. If parents asked questions, she could address them. Otherwise, mum’s the word.
Kirksey was not willing to go with the flow, though, and she was fired when she told parents the truth about what was happening in the classroom. “I don’t think we should be talking to other people’s children who are under the age of 18 about being transgender,” she said.
So how did it get to this point? To the point where we not only fire people for exercising basic common sense, but also to the point where we don’t even seem to care?
Well, the answer is pretty simple. Liberals have gotten extremely good at using every tool at their disposal – political speeches, television, Hollywood, newspapers, the education system, etc. – to hammer one point home over and over again. The message is as sinister as it is effective: You have two choices. One, you can embrace what we say about (any given topic). Or two, you can be an evil person on the wrong side of history. You can be Abraham Lincoln or you can be George Wallace. It’s up to you.
No one wants to be the last person wearing a Klan hood. So this strategy works. You might never come to believe in your heart that Bruce Jenner is now a woman, but you’ll keep your mouth shut. After all, look what they did to poor Kim Davis! You don’t want to wind up like that. You have a mortgage to pay and children to raise. Who needs the headache?
And that’s how we arrive in 2015. It’s now evil to stand up for the unborn. It’s now evil to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. It’s now evil to believe, even, that a man is a man and not a woman.
Here’s the scary thing. If they can get us to believe that these things are evil, what can’t they get us to believe?
