White House Correspondents’ Association Denounces Foul Comedian

The president of the White House Correspondents’ Association realized Sunday that the previous evening’s annual dinner was not the rousing success that the organization had hoped for. In fact, if the purpose of this event is to shine a light on the First Amendment and honor the relationship between the president and the press, you could only characterize Saturday night’s ceremony as a total and complete disaster.

A lot of that blame goes to comedian Michelle Wolf, whose foul monologue drew jeers from both the right and the establishment left (the far left blogosphere, of course, loved every minute of it). But to allow the WHCA to denounce Wolf now is to pretend that they don’t beg for this kind of controversy every time there’s a Republican in the White House.

“Last night’s program was meant to offer a unifying message about our common commitment to a vigorous and free press while honoring civility, great reporting and scholarship winners, not to divide people,” WHCA president Margaret Taley said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the entertainer’s monologue was not in the spirit of that mission.”

No. No, it wasn’t.

But either Taley is suffering from gross mental incompetence…or she knew exactly what she was getting when she hired said “entertainer” to roast the Trump administration. A brief glimpse at Wolf’s appearances on The Daily Show is enough to let you know that the WHCA would have been just as well off to hire Samantha Bee or Kathy Griffin to host the show. Wolf didn’t come as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She was hired to blast the president from here to East Asia using every off-color joke she could write. She did the job she was hired to do.

And now the WHCA wants to pretend that they were sold a bill of goods? Nuh-uh. No sir.

To be sure, Taley isn’t apologizing because Sean Spicer and a legion of conservatives and Republicans denounced the monologue. She came out with this statement because Washington reporters – her own flock – thought the routine was in bad taste. And why did they think that? Because Wolf made a comment about Sarah Sanders’s eye makeup. Not because of anything she said about Sanders’ character and certainly not because of anything she said about the President of the United States. No, they perceived a tiny lack of political correctness in her un-feminist attack on Sanders, so they suddenly found their way to the nearest high horse.

Sigh…only the hypocritical, pathetic Washington media could find a way to make us defend that godawful “comedy” routine.

Well, to be sure, we are NOT defending it. It was just as ghastly as everyone said it was. But to throw Wolf under the bus because she made some (pretty damn mild) remarks about Sarah Sanders’ looks and not because she savaged the sitting president as if he were no better than a piece of garbage is to miss the point entirely.

Well, we’ll see next year if the WHCA actually learned a lesson from this debacle. Our guess is that they’ll hire yet another left-wing comedian to do another hatchet job on the president. Only this time, they’ll be reminded that PC comedy guidelines require that only white Christian men are to be mocked. That, we assume, will pacify 99% of the liberals who had a problem with Wolf’s routine.
