3-Yr-Old Shoots and Kills Newborn

A 3-year-old got hold of a gun and accidentally shot a 5-month-old baby in a Florida home — leading to neglect charges for the woman who was supposed to be caring for them, cops said.

Officers responded to the Tampa residence around 1 p.m. Saturday after getting a call that the infant had been shot in the hip, the Tampa Police Department said in a statement.

Paula Concepcion Santos, 25, was arrested and charged with child neglect with great bodily harm — while the baby was taken to Tampa General Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Concepcion Santos allegedly told detectives that the 3-year-old got hold of a loaded gun and accidentally fired it.

Detectives are still trying to determine exactly how the shooting occurred. They have not revealed how Concepcion Santos is related to the two children. She remained jailed on $15,000 bond as of Tuesday.

“While we’re incredibly thankful this infant was not fatally injured, this should serve as a reminder to every parent or guardian to immediately go and check that their guns are properly secured,” stated Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor.

She added: “Children should not be able to access firearms, and moreover, guns should always be stored in a locked safe with the ammo stored separately.”

If we did not have Democrats so soft on grime, people might not need to have a loaded gun around to defend them selves and property !!!

I have never owned a gun, in my life!! I have never needed a gun, in my life!! The USA leads the world in the number of gun deaths, school shootings and mass shootings. When it comes to mass shootings we have no competition. 73% of the mass shootings, in the world, occur in the USA!!
The USA leads the world with the number of guns in private ownership. How has having all these guns made us any safer???

So you keep your gun locked in a safe with the ammo stored elsewhere. Then armed bad guys break into your house. For some reason they are not likely to give you time to unlock your gun, find the ammo, load it and be ready for them. No, you are most likely shot and wounded or worse and the bad guys get your gun.

I think the best answers are finger print safes locked with loaded semi-autos inside.
