Lawmakers Say Hypocrite Pelosi Must Pay Fine for Evading Metal Detectors
Republican lawmakers said this week that they intend to hold House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) accountable for violating her own security policies, implemented after the January 6th riot at the Capitol. After slapping Republicans with a $5,000 fine for evading the new magnetometers installed outside the House floor, Pelosi herself is facing heavy criticism for skipping the metal detectors herself. And now, lawmakers are calling on her to pay the same fine she imposed on other congresspeople.
“She opened the session on the floor, she came through what is known as the Speaker’s lobby,” Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) told Fox News about Pelosi’s actions on Thursday. “We are all told, one Republican was fined for doing this just yesterday, that you cannot walk through those entrances unless you are disabled.”
“This,” Davis said, “is the typical good for thee, not for me type of attitude that comes out of San Francisco.”
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) also said that Pelosi should be held to the same standard as others.
“Pay the fine Speaker Pelosi,” Crenshaw said.
In an interview with Fox, Crenshaw said that Pelosi’s actions were “against her own rules.”
“Now is this a smart rule? No. Is this a rule that makes sense? No, of course not. But that’s not the point, the point is they’re her rules. She’s literally confiscated property in the form of money, which we think is unconstitutional, but in any case they’re doing it,” Crenshaw said. “She won’t abide by the rules herself so we’re going to make a huge push for her to actually have to pay that fine.”
Davis said the Capitol Police must report Pelosi’s violation to the House Sergeant-at-Arms.
“Capitol Police cannot only file reports of violations on Republicans and look the other way when the most powerful person in the House, the speaker, flouts her own rules,” Davis said.
We wish we could be surprised by this hypocrisy, but who could be? Pelosi, after all, was the woman who decided she could go maskless into a salon to get her hair done at a time when all the salons in San Francisco were prohibited from opening to the public. So why should we be surprised when she gets up on her high horse, claims the House is “unsafe” because of Republicans who refuse to go through the metal detectors, and then proceeds to evade them herself?
It’s absolutely par for the course.
