A Major Crisis on Capitol Hill

The #MeToo movement is not done taking scalps, and the next series of bombshell accusations could be aimed straight at the center of Washington, DC. According to a Daily Caller reporter named Luke Rosiak, Capitol Hill could be the scene for a stunning series of sexual misconduct accusations over the next three days. Rosiak tweeted Friday that his sources were telling him that a major crisis of historic proportions was about to land squarely in the middle of America’s legislative branch.

“Congress’ human resources scandal is just getting started,” Rosiak wrote. “I anticipate we will see the resignation of more than a dozen House members over harassment and secret settlements, and soon.”

How soon?

Rosiak followed that mysterious tweet with another one, even more tantalizing: “Mark my words, the House is going to be rocked in the coming 72 hours. Tick Tock.”

Rosiak may be in a position to know; he was responsible for breaking the last major Washington sex scandal when he reported that Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) had settled with a former aide he fired after she reported being sexually assaulted by one of his biggest campaign donors.

Already, sexual assault allegations have taken down many prominent names on Capitol Hill. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL), Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX), Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), Rep. Ruben Kihuen (D-NV), and Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) have all been pushed towards either retirement or resignation by sexual misconduct accusations in recent weeks. And that’s not even counting the major scandal that rocked Michigan when Rep. John Conyers, one of the longest-serving Democrats in the House, was forced to resign after his dalliances with an employee were revealed to the public.

“The atmosphere is tense on Capitol Hill, as members of Congress and their staff anxiously await more sexual harassment revelations in their ranks,” wrote the Huffington Post on Friday. “People are ‘freaking out,’ one Democratic Hill staffer said. HuffPost spoke to more than a dozen members and aides, all of whom said there are rumors flying about when the next bombshell is coming. Members and aides on the Hill also anticipate publication of a story in a national news outlet that details which members’ offices have settled cases of sexual harassment using taxpayer dollars. Such a report could lead to a number of retirements or resignations, with numbers as high as 20 members swirling.”

The week leading up to Christmas could be awash in a political bloodbath in the nation’s capital as Americans wait nervously to see on just whom the next shoe (or shoes) will drop.
