All-Knowing Biden Wants to Control Your Lights
When the Biden administration is not busy taking away the freedoms of Americans in matters of health, self-defense, and the right to free speech, they are doing it in other ways less noticed in the mainstream media. One of these involves the way you like to light your house. A new proposal by the Biden administration seeks to take away your choice of a traditional light bulb and let you use only LED bulbs.
On Monday (December 19), Biden’s Department of Energy (DOE) proposed “phasing out” the traditional incandescent light bulbs and replacing them with the more energy-efficient LED bulbs. The DOE’s proposal to make LED bulbs as the sole choice available for lighting houses is based on two main ambitions of the Biden administration: first, cutting electricity consumed by an average household as the LED bulbs are nearly $75 more energy-efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs; secondly, curbing the heat emitted by traditional bulbs and thus reducing the alleged global warming.
The proposal by Biden’s DOE works by increasing the officially required efficiency levels for light bulbs to 120 lumens per watt which is more than twice of the current standard of 45 lumens per watt. In effect, it’ll ban the manufacture of traditional bulbs that have been in use worldwide since the late 19th Century. Axios reported earlier this year:
Bulbs that don’t meet the new standard have 75 days to be phased out of production. Full enforcement goes into effect in July 2023.
The push for making LED bulbs the standard form of lighting in America’s homes and buildings was started by the George W. Bush administration while the Obama administration later furthered it in the form of a law. However, the Trump administration in 2019 rolled back the legal standards set by the Obama administration arguing that they were not economically justified. Now the Biden administration is taking it up from where the Obama’s government had left it, making it one of the “100 energy-efficiency actions” it claims to take by the end of 2022.
While leftists have hailed the plans to make LED the sole choice of consumers for lighting their houses, critics have frowned on the plan to take away people’s choice in yet another matter. Industry groups are concerned about the loss of jobs the Biden’s DOE would cause with banning the manufacture of incandescent light bulbs, which are much cheaper to buy than LED ones.Consumers, who prefer the traditional lighting, will have no choice except LED, and even risk health as well as environmental harms. A recent study by researchers at the University of Exeter found that blue light wavelengths associated with LED lights are increasing “the risk of harmful effects to ecosystems.” Green Matters, a pro-environmentalist platform, noted that health problems such as hypertension, diabetes, and even heart attack, may result from the increased blue wavelengths emissions over time as they can interfere with sleep in both humans and animals.
