Another American Killed By ISIS

As President Obama moves to ask Congress for official authorization to wage war against the Islamic State, another American hostage has been killed by the deadly militants. Kayla Jean Mueller was taken by the group in August 2013 while accompanying a contractor connected to Doctors Without Borders. Leaving a hospital in Aleppo, Syria, Mueller was abducted by ISIS terrorists.

ISIS representatives claim that Mueller was killed by Jordanian air strikes carried out last week in Raqqa, Syria. Administration officials, however, say there is no evidence that this was the case. In fact, though news of Mueller’s death is only now being reported, there are some who believe she may have been executed at a much earlier time. In a letter to the 26-year-old’s parents, ISIS said she would be killed last summer. At around the same time, the group released their first videos of ceremonial beheadings. James Foley, Steven Sotloff, and Peter Kassig were among the Westerners killed by the group on video.

Whether Mueller died last week, last year, at the hands of ISIS, or in a Jordanian air strike really makes little difference. As Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar – representing Mueller’s home district – said: “I’m tired of these people existing on the same planet, breathing the same air as I am. They shouldn’t be around.” And when you get right down to it, Gosar has stated the case more directly, more honestly, and more refreshingly than almost any other politician in Washington.

President Obama assured the media that he was “heartbroken” over the news of Mueller’s death. Remarkably, he passed up another opportunity to remind us of everyone who has ever been killed by a Christian since the beginning of time. Instead, he defended the U.S. decision not to pay the $5 million ransom ISIS demanded. And he promised a reaction: “No matter how long it takes, the United States will find and bring to justice the terrorists who are responsible for Kayla’s captivity and death.”

Well, if we continue down the same anemic path we’ve been pursuing, it will probably take a long time indeed. In fact, at this pace, the terrorists may well begin to see Obama’s climate change as a greater threat than U.S. military action. And as the days pass, how many other Americans will have to die at the hands of this barbaric army? How many Arabs? How many Christians in Iraq and Syria? How many until we decide that enough is enough?
