According to an editorial in a local New York newspaper, former President Bill Clinton is putting the blame for Hillary’s loss on FBI Director James Comey.
“James Comey cost her the election,” Slick Willie told an editor with the Bedford-Pound Ridge Record Review. Apparently, this wasn’t a scheduled interview or anything; Clinton just ran into the editor at a bookstore and started popping off about the people he’s scapegoating for Hillary’s defeat.
Clinton, of course, isn’t the only Democrat who blames Comey for the loss. Many in the party – including members of the Clinton campaign team – believe that Comey acted recklessly when he sent a letter to Congress at the end of October, telling them that FBI agents had discovered some potentially problematic emails in the course of a separate investigation.
Ultimately, those emails – found on a laptop belonging to disgraced congressman Anthony Wiener – turned out to be duplicates of emails the FBI had already seen while investigating Hillary. But, according to Bill, the damage had already been done.
Bill also took the time to criticize Donald Trump. “He doesn’t know much, ” the former president reportedly said. “One thing he does know is how to get angry, white men to vote for him.”
Well, that’s one more thing than Hillary knows how to do, isn’t it?
Comey and Trump weren’t the only people on Bill’s mind; he was raring to go on the subject of Vladimir Putin and Russian hacking as well. He scoffed at people who didn’t believe that Russia played a part in the hacks. “You would need to have a single-digit IQ not to recognize what was going on.”
No, Mr. President, a single-digit IQ is what you would need to have if you wanted to believe that James Comey and Vladimir Putin and racist whites were responsible for Donald Trump’s election. There were a number of factors that went into Trump’s victory – a rotten Republican Party establishment, Barack Obama, a backlash against political correctness and Islamopandering, and Trump himself.
But if there was a single “that’s it” reason, the biggest candidate for the spot would have to be Hillary Clinton herself. She’s the one that used an unsecured server to send and receive classified messages. She’s the one who called half of Trump’s supporters “deplorables.” She’s the one who continually lied to the public about her emails. She’s the one who gave special government access to Clinton Foundation donors. She’s the one who sent a clear signal to Americans that the Second Amendment would not be safe under her administration.
But hey, keep telling yourself that it was a Russian-FBI conspiracy. Whatever helps you cope, Bubba.
