In a letter to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this week, Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors made it clear that she expects a certain degree of fealty from the president-elect. Insisting that it was only thanks to black voters that Biden won the election, Cullors – who has described herself as a “trained Marxist” – said that she wants a meeting with the victors to discuss what she wants out of the new administration.
“Without the resounding support of Black people, we would be saddled with a very different electoral outcome,” Cullors said. “In short, Black people won this election. We want to be heard and our agenda to be prioritized.”
First of all, Biden won a smaller percentage of the black electorate than any recent Democrat, so there’s some reason to debate Cullors’ underlying premise in the first place. Second, it’s instructive to see that Cullors and Black Lives Matter now presume to speak for all black people in America. We know at least a few such people who might take exception to that presumption – even some who voted for Biden.
In her letter, Cullors said that both Biden and Harris have “expressed regrets regarding your record on issues impacting Black people.” She told them: “You should take your direction from Black grassroots organizers that have been engaged in this work for decades, with a legacy that spans back to the first arrival of enslaved Africans.”
“We would like to be actively engaged in your Transition Team’s planning and policy work,” Cullors concluded. “Let’s get to work!”
Remember yesterday, when we glanced at a few of the unsavory leftists angling for a position in Biden’s administration? Well, as much as it disturbs us to think about Elizabeth Warren, Treasury Secretary or Bernie Sanders, Secretary of Labor, neither of those two influences are anywhere near as frightening as what Cullors is suggesting.
To allow Black Lives Matter to have a guiding hand in directing the transition effort? To allow this “trained Marxist” to have a major say in the staffing of the administration? Now THAT is the kind of thing that should keep you up late at night.
Let’s be clear about the aims and goals of Black Lives Matter. They don’t just want to “reform” police, they want to defund and abolish it. They don’t just want to create economic opportunities for black people, they want to dismantle capitalism from the ground up. They are enemies of law enforcement, enemies of biology (see their bizarre fixation on transgender issues), and they are enemies of America. Plain and simple, they have no place whatsoever calling the shots in the White House.
Alas, this is exactly what we were afraid of when it came to Joe Biden.
