“BS Purity Test”: Bill Maher Roasts Democrats for Israel Boycott
If there’s anything you can say about liberal comedian Bill Maher, it’s that he can at least cut through some of the nonsense that erupts from the Democratic Party. Yes, he may be a left-wing fool who would rather see the U.S. fall into a recession than elect Donald Trump to a second term, but a left-wing fool with some capacity for self-reflection is less foolish than the majority of the modern “progressive” Democrats. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king, and Maher consistently turns that cyclopean eye on his fellow liberals.
He did so once again on Friday, blasting a number of House Democrats for proposing a boycott of Israel in the wake of Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib being denied their official visit.
“The BDS movement is a bulls**t purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class,” Maher sneered on his HBO program. “It’s predicated on this notion, I think – it’s very shallow thinking – that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied.”
Maher’s remarks come as some Democrats, including presidential contender Bernie Sanders, have called on the U.S. to deny Israel billions in aid because they barred the anti-Semitic congresswomen from the country.
In an absurd statement, Omar said, “Trump’s Muslim ban is what Israel is implementing, this time against two duly elected members of Congress. Denying entry into Israel not only limits our ability to learn from Israelis, but also to enter the Palestinian territories.”
We’ll let you guess which one of these is among Omar’s top priorities.
Maher, in commentary we’ve scarcely seen anywhere on the left, actually noted the very good reasons Benjamin Netanyahu might have to deny Omar admittance.
“Congresswoman Omar has said things like, ‘It’s all about the Benjamins,’ ‘Israel has hypnotized the world,’ ‘May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel,’ ” Maher said. “She apologized for it, but it’s out there: Jews control the world, control the money. I can see why they don’t get a hero’s welcome.”
Fact is, if a country like Haiti or a place like the West Bank denied entry to President Trump or, say, Mexico refused to let Rep. Steve King pay a visit, the left would hurt themselves doing cartwheels. Their pretend outrage over Israel’s decision is transparent and mind-numbingly boring. Congratulations to Maher for seeing through this nonsense.
