Obsessed to the last with the rancid identity politics that have become the left’s new religion, CNN gave us some startlingly stupid impeachment analysis on Saturday, courtesy of legal expert Jeffrey Toobin. And while it was somewhat refreshing to hear Toobin admit that Republicans have a clear path to victory when it comes to acquitting Trump of these fundamentally ridiculous charges, he had to go and ruin a decent take with a mind-numbingly dumb opinion about the white maleness of the president’s legal team.
“I just think the Republicans are winning here,” Toobin began. “The president is winning here. And as long as they don’t completely fall on their faces, which they’re all competent lawyers, they’re not going to do that, I think that’s fine for them.”
Toobin went on to note that Trump’s decision to withhold military aid from Ukraine fit in perfectly with one of the president’s most thematic principles; i.e. that our European allies need to start picking up the bill when it comes to providing defense for vulnerable nations.
“They did make one good point about [the transcript], I thought, which was the president did talk about burden-sharing in that phone call, and the House managers didn’t focus on that or even mention it. And fair is fair,” he said.
And then, realizing that he’d spent more than 60 seconds praising President Trump and probably endangering his job at CNN, Toobin abruptly switched gears. See, it’s all well and good for the president to surround himself with capable, competent lawyers…but where, pray tell, is the racial diversity?
“The White House and white people,” Toobin scoffed. “It was all white men today. There are two white women allegedly on the team, we’ll see if they’re allowed to argue.”
Like, for real, dude! Right on! And gee, why are there no gays on the legal team? Where are the transgender, black, polyamorous lawyers? It’s like a damn Klan meeting up in here!
“I mean, you know, this is a lesson in the diversity of the two parties,” he continued. “I mean you look at the House managers, it was almost evenly divided between men and women. It was, you had two African-Americans, you had a Hispanic.”
Yeah. It’s almost like the Democrats built their team with those concerns taking priority over everything else, Jeffrey. How woke of you to notice.
