Anti-Racism Novel is Too Racist for Today’s Snowflakes

Harper Lee’s classic novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird” has been a classroom staple for many decades, but today’s crop of “EVERYTHING IS RACIST” snowflakes may put a swift end to that. In the Biloxi School District in Mississippi, the powers-that-be have decided that the book is too controversial to be taught to eighth graders.

“There is some language in the book that makes people uncomfortable,” said Kenny Holloway of the school board in an interview with the Biloxi Sun Herald. “We can teach the same lesson with other books.”

Yes, because the perils of racism are better taught by using sanitized texts that don’t use words that make students uncomfortable? As if these students do not hear controversial racist words every day in the halls of their school? How can you teach the students of 2017 what life was like for black people in the South if you aren’t using the kind of language that was common back then? Exactly what “other books” are getting this job done in a better, less offensive way? What kind of history are you teaching students when you only use books that carefully censor the N-word? It’s outrageous.

This is the perfect example of why the left’s sudden obsession with banning certain forms of speech and certain symbols of history is so dangerous. Here, no one is even making the argument that Harper Lee’s book is racist or a form of hate speech. So, in its way, this censorship is even worse than the battle against Confederate monuments or conservative campus speakers. It’s even worse than the Yale professors who were thrown off campus for daring to defend a student’s choice to wear whatever Halloween costume they want. This is a school administration determining that an ANTI-racism book must be banned because it uses language “that makes people uncomfortable.” Remember when the left used to be defenders of free expression? Wow…

It’s time for us to move past this insane obsession we have with making sure everyone feels “safe” and “comfortable.” That’s not the real world, and that’s not what education is all about. That’s not what THIS COUNTRY is all about. You should be uncomfortable every now and then. That’s what it takes to help you grow out of your old, tired mind patterns, or, in some cases, what helps you develop better arguments to defend your beliefs. That’s what helps you learn. That’s what helps us make ACTUAL progress as a nation, as opposed to the fake kind of “progressivism” that the left champions.

When you drive hateful ideologies and controversial viewpoints underground, they fester and metastasize into something much worse. When you bring them up into the light and destroy them with logic and reason and truth, they disintegrate and fall apart. Today’s liberals may have good intentions with their war on free speech, but you know what they say about those.

Oh, I am so impressed that FTN wants to do something about fixing the rampant racism in this country!!!

    1. Retired says

When you leave there will be one less Racist in the USA !!

    2. mac12sam12 says

There isn’t “rampant racism” in the country except for blacks hating whites. FBI stats show that black on white crime is 15-1 over white on black crime. Do your race pimping elsewhere. Your party is the party of slavery and the KKK.

    3. Laurence Almand says

Nonsense. Modern Blacks constantly try to blame Whites for their careless behavior, out-of-wedlock children, parental neglect, Black-on-Black crime, etc. Low IQ Blacks have ruined Detroit, Baltimore, and other once-prosperous cities, yet they constantly whine and try to blame Whites for their incompetence.

      1. Barbaracvm says

Booker T Washington he applied himself and was extremely successful
But I would bet they have never heard of him.

        1. Laurence Almand says

True. There are millions of Black people who have worked hard to lift themselves out of poverty. But the welfare state has caused so many of them to expect handouts in return for nothing. And yes, modern students are taught little of value, except the Socialist agenda.
I went to an all-White school in the 1950s, and we learned about George W. Carver, Booker T. Washington, Soujourner Truth, W.E.B. DuBois and many other worthwhile Black people.
What sort of role models do modern young Blacks have today? Michael Jackson? Beyoncé?

      2. Bill O'Neil says

Is that what they told you to say at your Klan meeting last night?

        1. Laurence Almand says

No, just do some research, or read any newspaper or watch any of the Socialist media like CNN.

          1. Bill O'Neil says

Socialist media like CNN. LOL!!! They are closer to being a Fox wannabe.

Removing a book whose plot shows a white attorney defending literally to his own physical peril is helpful in fixing racism. It just doesn’t fix it the way you communist collectivists want it fixed.

      1. Bill O'Neil says

Is that what Putin is telling you to run with today?

        1. TexasCoyote1 says

Where do you fools get this s**t? True Americans want to take our country back from the brink of disaster the liberal progressives have taken us to. There were 63+ million of us who voted for Trump and I doubt very seriously any of us have ties to Russia.

You just can’t seem to accept that the ideology you profess is not that popular. Mainstream media keeps telling you its the only way, and there are millions of us who know it is not. We don’t believe it’s okay to kneel for the National Anthem and we don’t thin socialized medicine is a good thing and we also believe Mexicans should live in Mexico.

          1. Bill O'Neil says

Are you claiming to be a Native American? If not, then you can go back to the country you or your ancestors came from.

          2. TexasCoyote1 says

Actually, my great grandmother was a Kiowa Indian, but that’s not the basis for my assertion. Putin is not leading the conservative movement in this country, President Trump is, and he’s done a great job of rekindling the spirit of self-reliance and limited government in those of us who truly feel that is the best way to live. We can disagree, but you have no basis on which to imply that I am treasonous or seditious.

          3. Bill O'Neil says

OK, that is cool that you can trace back to Kiowa heritage. That should give you some empathy for people that have been put upon for centuries. I have often thought that if a Native American ever ran for POTUS he/she would get my vote just on general principles.

          4. TexasCoyote1 says

My only memory of her was when I was about 4 years old. I was asleep at her house and I heard voices and got up to see what was going on. It was about 4AM, and she was in the kitchen giving orders to the ranch foreman on what she expected him to do that day. When she saw me in the doorway, she poured me a cup of coffee with enough sugar in it give me diabetes for life. She was a skinny, fiery old woman with a long black braid down her back. My great grandfather had been Scottish and together they had clawed a large holding out of virgin land in South Texas. Nobody dared to cross her, and she ruled everything with an iron fist. She would have made an excellent president if she could have been home in time to keep the ranch running smoothly.

You have just made a fool of yourself, yet, again.

          6. niknar says

AK is for Alaska. Arkansas is AR. Although it’s possible it’s her initials or something else.

          7. peanut9244 says

Well seeing I am human and am prone to errors, unlike Chi Sambo, I do apologize for the error…it is also very easy to get the two mixed up.

          8. niknar says

No need to apologize. I sometimes have to pause & think before I remember which one is which. After all, both states start with an A & have a K in them.

There are other states I wonder why they chose the letters they did, like Missouri (MO) — you’d think they’d give MO to Montana, if anyone; & Nebraska (NE), which would make sense if there weren’t 5 other states that begin with Ne, & Nebraska is the only one of them with a B & also has a K.

          9. Chi Sam says

Confusing AR and AK was a minor error.

Predicating your entire post around nothing was the greater error.

Every remark you’ve made since is what truly defines you.

          10. peanut9244 says

Get the hell off your soap box buster…………………the only person your impressing is yourself…and no one else.

It takes very little effort to search state codes, if you’re too incompetent to know and too dumb to figure them out.

          13. Chi Sam says

Duh…it’s safe to say. So safe…I’ll run my mouth about your being a neighbor of the Clintons…duh…

          14. peanut9244 says

You made a very stupid remark, and I called you on it.

          23. TexasCoyote1 says

You AK are the communist. You want to destroy the individual and have people just be nodes of the collective. Anyone with any brains knows that destroys all innovation and creativity and only leaves government.

          24. AKLady says

They why are you trying to do just that?

          25. peanut9244 says

“they” don’t you mean THEN….damn loin ta speel da siplst of woids … People back in my day went to school to get an education … today they go to school just to see who can text the fastest, take the most pictures, and learn how to be the best bullies that the taxpayer can buy.
Personally I’d love to take a baseball bat to the lot of them … if anything to get that so called functioning gray matter they know as a brain to start working….like that will ever happen.

          26. Chi Sam says

If it is functioning…it is working. Odd, that you wouldn’t know that already.

          27. mary ellen says

No the post is not communist speak, but the doctrines in the public schools are communist. I worked in a public school until recently and believe me, what the children are learning is not democracy.

The whole country knows except for AK the Muslim troll !!!

          30. TexasCoyote1 says

According to a whole bunch of us. Your ideas are in the minority. Many, if not most of us, know Common Core is Communist Core. It teaches the value of the group or collective and diminishes the value of the individual. That’s why you had Obama telling business people they didn’t build their businesses even though they know they did in spite of government not because of it.

          31. peanut9244 says

Looks like you hit the nail right on the head.

          32. ernldo says

Its obvious akMalady is a product (victim) of the pubic school system. It is confused, dumbed way down and is also a bedridden, 450 pound tranny troll. You can’t force a simian to reason, so why not just block the mook?

          33. TexasCoyote1 says

In any debate it is always good to have an opposing side. While I don’t think AKLady presents valid arguments, she still provides opposition. Without that, all the rest of us are doing is confirming what we already believe. That only makes us feel good, but it doesn’t make us any smarter.

I’ll keep responding to her for a while. I don’t know if you have noticed or not, but she has toned down the “lies, lies part.” That was truly annoying when we all had the facts.

          34. peanut9244 says

Teachers are told to teach what they are told to…if it is wrong so what it is … for lack of a better term … all about the ratings.
The State Boards of Education are the ones that determine what is or is not taught…at least that is what I have been told.
Just this year the best school Superintendent in a long time resigned because she did not believe in COMMON CORE EDUCATION.
She, a long time Democrat, said that it was nothing short of an indoctrination, and she felt it was to close to the teachings of Marxism…
So maybe Mary Ellen has a point but one thing for damn sure is she is very close to the truth.

          35. Barbaracvm says

According to those of us who work in the school system. Common sense, critical thinking is not encouraged.

          37. Chi Sam says

Od is not a word. It is merely two-thirds of the perfect adjective to describe you and this ‘vocation’ you’ve created for yourself.

          38. Barbaracvm says

90% of the teachers and administrators, is that enough? Most of the politicians are the ones who support common core. High school students who can read at the 3rd grade level.

          39. AKLady says

            Exaggeration simply discounts your veracity.

          40. Barbaracvm says

Which is why colleges have to offer remedial reading and math, high school level classes.

          41. peanut9244 says

Well the phrase STUPID IS WHAT STUPID DOES, from Forrest Gumpp seems to come to mind.

          42. ernldo says

Yes, for evidence, check the test scores out of inner cities. Oh, I forgot…that info is sealed, like hussein’s ed. and criminal records. The leftist remedy? Teach to the lowest value…..its nothing new….

We have a school board election here next month. – One is running as “Put an educator on the school board” A teacher! Wadahya friginutz? – The LAST person I want on the school board is a commie teacher. – How ’bout a retired Marine corps drill Sergent though? Let’s see how their “tenure” works with someone like that.

The first step in neutralizing the commie indoctrination system is to clean out the school boards. Contract? What contract?

          1. Chi Sam says

Sergeant, stupid. It figures you’re running your mouth again about some others incompetence.

You are a clown, you low-ranked dummy.

          2. Retired says

Have you looked in a mirror lately without breaking it or are you afraid . Teachers on School boards should be outlawed . Teachers belong to the Taxpayer and not the Union .

          3. Chi Sam says

I agree with you, completely. That’s like having the fox guard the hen house.

What is the basis for your odd remark about my looking in a mirror.

          4. Retired says

I guess the subject is to deep for you to comprehend .

          5. Chi Sam says

You really should consider adding the common word ‘too’ to your vocabulary.

It takes up very little space.
You’ll present yourself as significantly smarter.
By your use of the word ‘to’, you’ve already demonstrated a mastery of all of the required letters.

If stupid people had the ability to keep their mouths shut now and then, almost no one but their family members would know that they’re stupid.

          6. ABO says

I would suggest that you adhere to your own advice but it would appear that it is far too late for that option to be taken.

          7. Chi Sam says

You cannot explain that remark…because you are a mouth-running jerk with little integrity and almost no ability to craft a clever remark.

          8. ABO says

I need not explain my remark. The intelligent adults here are fully capable of understanding what I said. You apparently, not so much.

          9. Chi Sam says

            Like I said…you can’t.

Like any other coward, you obfuscate with nonsensical gibberish when called out.

            You’re not a good person.

          12. VolunteerVet says

So, what does all this verbal diarrhea have to do with teachers on school boards?

          13. Retired says

Union Teachers negotiating wages and benefits , in most places they do NOT have to answer to anybody in Gov. . They hold the annual meeting to vote on contracts and policy changes . The Union makes sure there are plenty of teachers there to out number the residents .

          14. Chi Sam says

Well…do you simply make odd remarks for reasons you don’t even know. You dummies sure get quiet when you come to the realization that running your mouth is no fun when you are horribly outsmarted.

          15. Retired says

Why is it you must brag about yourself like that .

          16. Chi Sam says

You ought to be able to figure that out yourself. You have no idea who I am, so boasting about myself cannot possibly boost my worth.

Still need help? Must I do all you’re thinking? Just kidding…I knew the answer to that question before my first reply to you.

All of my replies to you have a singular purpose…to make you feel as silly and impertinent as you present yourself to be.

You maintain that I am “proving” how wrong I am, yet you cannot possibly explain what that may even mean to you. You say “look in a mirror” in some odd defense of a stupid, totally-irresponsible bum that is still being routinely arrested for DUI well into his sixties…and of course you cannot explain that weird remark either.

I understand that you cannot know this…but smart, honest men with principles and integrity can spot a fraud in an instant.

I think there should be an apostrophe at the end of “others”, if we want to be perfectionists.

You’re doing a good job of demeaning your interlocuteurs, but I’m not sure for what ultimate purpose. Why wouldn’t you want instead to bring up alternative ways of looking at the issues & reason why they make better sense than what your conversant seems to believe, which I’m sure you’re quite able to do, & try to find common ground where you can. Denigrating them simply makes them reactively defensive & hostile towards you, after which you’re highly unlikely to convince them of anything positive.

          28. Chi Sam says

Your self-aggrandizement and narrow-mindedness does not allow you to consider that I share their political viewpoints and that the only thing I could hope to convince them of is that they’re remarkably stupid and do real harm to my cause by feeding the leftist meme that we’re all ignorant, bellicose imbeciles.

A surprising number do find a pastime that they are actually good (or at least quit posting incessantly) so my technique has proven itself more times than I would have initially thought.

Most mouth-running dummies cannot withstand scrutiny.

          29. Chi Sam says

And let’s not lose sight of the fact that trolling for dummies is no fun unless you can cause some imbecile to have a near meltdown.

No, it is not, or you would have readily offered a link to this “dictionary” you refer to.

          34. Lotacats Katz says

We really do need to get into those schools. I believe it’s critical. The more I see what’s going on, like people referring to themselves as “(Area) Progressive Democrats” forcing conservative business’s to close….and having “Progressive” teachers teaching our kids….that calls for us to really bring those schools back to our values. Progressives hurting others and their lively hoods and death threats then teaching our kids. Way too scary. Mine are all grown up but I know the home lessons on what we value stuck tight. They say it today….”man if we said/did that we’d still be in time out.” We can’t leave it to the schools to teach American history and the values of this country…those “Killing” books by Bill O’Reilly are great. Not boring and historically correct… Progressives won’t teach it. We have to. Indoctrination….yeah. We need to stay on top of it. Marines as school teachers…hell yeah! The kids WOULD pay attention. The progressive values? Too scary. I’ve seen enough and it really got my back up.

Exactly, under Bush 2, it was called no child left behind!

        2. AKLady says

Why do you oppose an educational “core” which insures every child is provided a at least a minimum of instruction in the Three Rs?

          1. GrizzMann says

No opposition with Educational core. ”Common Core” is another story.

          2. Retired says

AK lost out on the minimum core .

          3. TexasCoyote1 says

Because that “Core” is rotten. It is teaching our children to look to government to solve their problems instead of looking inside themselves for answers. It is also teaching perverted sexual ideas such as homosexuality being okay and transgenders being okay.

Core education was achieved much better without it. And your last sentence sums it up perfectly. Common Core is all about minimum education. It does not allow for the exploration of individual thoughts. On day 25 a teacher is supposed to be on a certain line of her teacher’s guide. Anything different and she is out of whack with the system. That is not education, that is indoctrination.

          4. DUTCHIET says

You are for “exploration of thoughts”, yet you deny there is such natural things as homosexuality? I must assume you do not believe in Evolution or Science.

          5. TexasCoyote1 says

I did not say homosexuality wasn’t real. I merely said it was a sexual perversion. In the schools, homosexuality is not being presented as perversion. It is being presented as “Normal.” These are not issues that are appropriate for teachers to present to children. These issues are only appropriate for parents to discuss with children in light of their religious beliefs. Homosexuality should not be a political issue.

          6. DUTCHIET says

I agree it should not be a political issue, so why are you making it one? No matter what you think, it is a natural occurrence. It is a gene mutation that happens. It is like blond hair or baldness, The person has no control. In fact, it happen in nature all the time, even with animals. So if you just treat it for what it is,a natural state of being there is no political issue. Don’t you agree?

          7. TexasCoyote1 says

I’m not for homosexuals being killed for their differences, if that’s what you mean by making it a political issue. I’m saying it’s not an appropriate issue for public school education. Homosexuality should not be normalized. It is a perversion and should not be taught as a normal situation. It may exist at every level, but it is still not normal. So, I guess it’s fair to agree to disagree.

          8. DUTCHIET says

My hair is now gray/white but was brown. I did not call blonds names and tell everyone they ar different and we should not accept them. They had no control over the color of their hair than guys do over their sexuality. Let me ask you one question: Would you disown your son if he was gay.

          9. TexasCoyote1 says

I wouldn’t disown him, but I would be ashamed of his behavior, and I most definitely would not tell my granddaughter I thought it was okay.

          10. AKLady says

Homosexuality is a human variation, as are hermaphrodites, diphallia, hypospadias, hermaphroditism, Klinefelter’s Syndrome, Turner Syndrome, micropenis, penile torsion, scrotal transposition, persistent cloaca, and double vagina.

          11. Retired says

So, you have access to medical terms. I’m not impressed.

I still assert homosexuality is not to be glorified. BTW, Turner Syndrome is a genetic defect that has nothing to do with sexuality. My daughter-in-law suffers from it, so I know quite a bit about it.

Public school is not the place for sex to be discussed. It is a private matter for parents to instruct their children. That is the issue. School curriculums have been taken over by the liberal progressive academiacs who wish to legitimize perverted sexual practices. I am a conservative, and I don’t want my children or grandchildren to be taught liberal progressive ideology.

          16. AKLady says

Turner Syndrome has significant sexuality issues, all of which are chromosome and hormone related.
Puberty. Most girls with Turner syndrome do not start puberty naturally.
Reproduction. In most girls with Turner syndrome, the ovaries are missing or do not function properly. Without the estrogen made by their ovaries, girls with Turner syndrome will not develop breasts. More than 95% of women with Turner syndrome cannot become pregnant without assistive technology

          17. TexasCoyote1 says

Turner’s syndrome is not sexual perversion. That was my point.

          18. AKLady says

Are you talking from experience on the subject ???

          23. TexasCoyote1 says

That is exactly my point. All views of sexuality should be taught only at home. If I choose to teach my children homosexuality is deviant behavior, then that is my choice. It is not government’s purview to take that privilege away from me.

          24. AKLady says

You can teach your children bigotry and hate,
School will teach them factual science.

          25. AKLady says

Why do you need to tell these lies?
Why do you embarrass America this way?

          27. TexasCoyote1 says

Why do you care? I believe everything I am posting is true, so it’s not a lie. I feel strongly that homosexuality is wrong and I’m neither unique nor alone in those beliefs. Just because you believe every form of perversion should be glorified in today’s world, does not mean I have to follow your lead.

It must work for you in most cases. No man intentionally makes himself look silly and weak to another man.

You’re angry…and you feel the need to say something to save face. That only works when the slighted person is capable of saying something that does not put him in an even worse light.

And it never…ever…works for men who just say ‘anything’, simply because they are not smart enough to say ‘something’ and for some bizarre reason believe being branded a disingenuous liar is not a bad thing.

      1. TexasCoyote1 says

Many of these weak parents went to school in the same system we are railing against on this forum. And, that is what the left-leaning educational system has been waiting for–second and third generations that don’t know anything else. We are all too close to the communist ideology being the only ideology taught.

Hopefully, the bill in Congress to abolish the Department of Education will pass and our educational system can be returned to local school boards and parents before it’s too late.

        1. mary ellen says

I went to public school, but my parents taught me faith, patriotism, right from wrong, kindness, charity, decency, manners, respect, etc. by their actions. I learned from them and taught my children the same way. Sit at the dinner table with your children and ask them what they are learning. It is the parents’ job to teach their children, schools are a learning center – they should be teaching children how to learn and how to use their brain to figure out things, not indoctrinating them to a political agenda. No only homeschool, but private schools do a much better job all around.

          1. TexasCoyote1 says

I went to public school, too. We were taught a variety of ideologies, and I don’t really recall one being pushed harder than any other. We were simply taught the beliefs of each and allowed to make our own decision about which ones were best.

The family has been virtually destroyed particularly in our big cities. Even the families that are intact are fractured with all the activities their children have making any attempt at quiet dinners discussing “ideas” virtually impossible. Kids are never more than a couple of inches from their phones–they no longer interact with parents. We have turned over our children’s education totally to institutions, so we are getting young people more suited for institutions than family life.

          2. Michael Riley says

What they see every day on TV (Berkeley, BLM, Antifa, ETC) doesn’t help either. This is why we have to push as many of our friends / acquaintances to get out and vote. You can be sure the left is paying, driving them and pushing people to vote left! I think 8 to 12 years of a Conservative Government and the changes back to the Constitution would make a world of difference.

If conservative government can be reinstated, it will stay in power longer than that. Everyone in the United States that is able to work will prosper in ways they have not been able to since this creeping communism began to take hold.

I had the best parents in the world too!!!

          6. Michael Riley says

That’s exactly what I was talking about. If the kids are brought up with love and teaching, at home, they wouldn’t listen to the first wrong examples that the folks that train them in school do . “train” being the important word!

        2. Michael Riley says

I understand that but if they were brought up at home, They would look at the other frame of mind as odd. Again, IMO.

      2. SUZANNE M. says

        1. TexasCoyote1 says

Much truth in what you said. Parents today are ill-prepared for what raising a child entails.

    4. SILENTHAMMER says

You obviously know the answer. The NEA is a leftist/liberal/anti-conservative organization with not the agenda of preparing our children to compete and survive in their world, but to object to and stand against anything morally GOOD because THAT would generate self-control. Ambition. Dignity. Noticed how fast “home-schooling” is growing here? Noticed how LOUD the NEA is processing against home schooling? Give education back to states, cities, moms and dads. God Bless America! God Bless President Trump!

    5. SUZANNE M. says

      1. Michael Riley says

YES, Dummy them Down. I’ve been saying that for years. I’m so glad Pres. Trump took over my job with practically everything he says. The media, and to the NFL Bull S%#T. The world is off my shoulders. Haa.

    6. Deplorable wizard says

The teachers of today, and a large portion of the administrators, are some of the first in the “everybody gets a trophy” and the “we don’t keep score because that means somebody loses” generation. Which, by the way, sprang from dr spock and his candyassed utopian socialist ideology about raising children.

Right now 5 north korean children, between 12 and 14, could take over almost any middle school in the country, and that includes teachers and administrators.

Liberals are destroying our country, and what’s worse, most of them not only know it – they want it.

      1. TexasCoyote1 says

Totally agree with everything you said.

Maybe what this country needs is for N Korea to detonate an EMP over Kansas for the great majority of Americans to get back to basics and learn how to do a few things besides text and snapchat.

        1. Deplorable wizard says

Actually, the best place would be just outside san francisco, right into the san andreas fault, for self explanatory reasons.

          1. TexasCoyote1 says

That would get rid of a lot of problems, but I think there are a lot of other liberals scattered in enclaves all over the country. It would be fun to watch them try to purify water and grow food without government to do it for them.

          2. Deplorable wizard says

Kind of like chickens when you toss pea gravel instead of grain, total confusion, and they’ll all eat their fill before they realize that they’ve been duped.

The best hope is that at least those that aren’t to far gone over the left cliff might come back to reality in that scenario.

          3. TexasCoyote1 says

Doubtful, I was really just musing about an effective way to get rid of them and start over with stronger stock. Every herd needs culling after a few generations. Weak genes get into the pool, and we certainly appear to have people in the herd who think government is supposed to take absolute care of their every need.

          4. Deplorable wizard says

So true, it seems like a disease, only it’s fatal to the country, the sheeple are just carriers, trying to infect more and more everyday.

By the way, good luck on the 4th.

          5. TexasCoyote1 says

Yeah, you too. Maybe well all stay inside and our loaded guns nearby. I live in a town where an Antifa mob would probably last about 30 seconds. Even teenage girls here can bring down a deer. There are far more firearms than there are people. The action will all be in the larger cities, I believe.

          6. Deplorable wizard says

Yeah, sounds nice where you’re at. I live in the city that shut down their last attempt before it got started, right after the Trump rally. Our new police chief basically went against the dem mayor’s request, made a formidable presence and ended the protest before damage and mayhem happened. The guy getting the 12ga bean bag to the nad’s went viral. The aclu is trying to sue for excesive force and first amendment- free speech violation because the rioter were not allowed to riot.

I’ll put it this way, me and mine are more prepared than them folk.

        2. DUTCHIET says

How much thought went into that statement, hoping that this nation has an EMP drop on it killing millions of our citizen and starting WW III. You are a real piece of work, a true mindless jerk who see simple solutions to complex problems. You give conservatives a bad name.

          1. TexasCoyote1 says

My post was as much sarcasm as anything else. It was more a musing about the fact several generations in this country have no concept of reality. A good reality check would eliminate most of this communist ideology because when it’s a matter of life and death, most people will choose to do as much as possible to stay alive. Americans are some of the least able to take care of themselves of any citizenry in the world. They believe government will always be there to handle disasters, and most of us know that is not possible.

When the hurricane hit Houston, it wasn’t FEMA that did most of the rescues, it was the Cajun Navy and the Texas Navy. Several men from my small community over 300 miles from Houston hitched up their fishing boats and spent days down there plucking people off rooftops and ferrying them out of flooded neighborhoods.

In fact, I heard one interview a few weeks ago that FEMA actually endangered people in Houston by not notifying residents they were going to release water from the Atticks Reservoir. The water was released at night and people were trapped in their homes in the dark in rising water.

My point is government at best is inept and should never be in charge of running anything with the possible exception of wars and even those they have a way of screwing up.

          2. DUTCHIET says

But your remark that millions of people should be killed and start WW III shows a lack of thought and cost you credibility

          3. TexasCoyote1 says

Do you not think at some point the United States will pay dearly for the stupidity of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama for giving and/or selling information, technology and hardware to nations like Iran and North Korea? I don’t wish death on millions of people, but I believe the start of WWIII is inevitable, and that war will be the fault of our former liberal leaders who thought sharing our secrets would appease our enemies. It didn’t work for Neville Chamberlain with Hitler and it won’t work for us either.

          4. DUTCHIET says

First, I do not believe that WW III is a done deal. Not if reasonable heads prevail, and I hope you understand that there will be no winner if there is a WW III. The living will envy the dead.
Second, Clinton and Obama may not have been the best but I think your remarks that because they were liberal makes them traitors, as I know of no secrets they shared with our enemies, as Trump has.
And Chamberlain did not share anything with The Donald’s hero.

This is for all the “slushies” of the right, for those of you that still read with their eyes open.

    Newsweek article by Charles Sykes

I realized that conservatives had created an alternate reality bubble—one that I had helped shape. During the 2016 election, conservatives turned on the principles that had once animated them. Somehow a movement based on real ideas—such as economic freedom and limited government—had devolved into a tribe that valued neither principle nor truth; …as the right allowed liberal overreach in the Obama era to blind them to the crackpots and bigots in their midst. I share many of their concerns about Clinton, Donald Trump is the president we deserve. This shift took many by surprise. …a shift from freedom to authoritarianism, from American “exceptionalism” to nativism and xenophobia. From his hard line on immigration and rebuttal of free trade to his strange fascination with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump represented a dramatic repudiation of the values that had once defined the movement. The timing fueled suspicion that the movement had more to do with the new president’s race—and party affiliation—than his policies, yet the early days of the Tea Party defied easy categorization. The Tea Party soon became the face of the conservative movement, Legitimate concerns over rationing health care morphed into overheated rhetoric about “death panels.” Even after Representative Joe Wilson was censured for yelling “You lie!” at Obama during a speech on health care in 2009, many on the right hailed the South Carolina Republican as a hero. Trump proliferated birtherism Not everyone on the right bought into birtherism. In private, conservatives who knew better justified their return to the dark fringes on the grounds that it fired up the base and antagonized liberals. We were naive. By failing to push back against the racist birther-conspiracy theory—among other harmful, batty ideas—conservatives failed a moral and intellectual test with significant implications for the future. We failed it badly. First there was the massive stimulus package, which threatened to balloon the national debt. Obama, frustrated by gridlock in Congress, started issuing a dizzying array of executive orders on issues ranging from immigration to clean power. At the same time, conservatives were inundated with stories, links and video clips of protesters chanting “What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want it? Now!” and “Pigs in a blanket, fry ’em like bacon.” As the Democrats became a party dominated by a highly educated, urban elite, its traditional blue-collar base felt increasingly disenfranchised. Many called them “angry white men” without really asking if they had legitimate reasons to be angry. Since the 1950s, conservatives have criticized the bias and double standards of the mainstream media. And much of the criticism has been deserved. Conservatives may exaggerate media bias, but they do not imagine it. The double standards made for daily fodder on my radio show for the past 23 years. But at some point in the past decade, Drudge began linking to Infowars… The Donald also enlisted the help of Breitbart bloviator Steve Bannon as his campaign strategist—a man who had turned his website into a platform for the hate-mongering “alt-right.” Those of us who were slow to join the bacchanal were denounced as sellouts, traitors or elitists. Conservatives who had previously agreed that Russia posed a global threat pivoted to embrace Putin as an exemplar of white Christian civilization; A movement once driven by ideas during the Reagan era—back before the advent of Rush Limbaugh or Fox News—now found itself dominated by Kardashian-like hosts, intellectually dishonest shills, cynical careerists and alt-right bullies. Rather than conformity, conservatism needs dissidents, contrarians. Today, there are no “Nixon conservatives,”.

I left out the commentary that was added throughout his…. What? Confession?
I know you will label him as a RINO, People are speaking out, your people, the ones YOU voted in office. Someday, hopefully soon, you will wake up to see what you have done. Trump is not fit to be president.

    2. mac12sam12 says

Ever hear of paragraphs? What a pile of liberal crap. The reality is that liberal policies never work and the last 8 years proves that.

      1. gotabgood says

Actually that probably is my fault and not Sykes. In this article I read, this person would add his commentary into the body of Sykes letter. I then copied the whole thing and then went back and deleted the commentaries… so yeah, no paragraphs. But in truth, I am surprised you know what a paragraph is!!
And when you talk of the previous 8 years, do so with respect. and try to remember the state the country was in when he took over. and where it was when trump took over….

        1. TexasCoyote1 says

Yes, when Trump took over the country was almost dead. Only he can possibly reinvigorate the communist waste dump Obama left him.

We conservatives don’t want a collective in which the government solves all our problems to the wishes of the lowest common denominator. We want the individual to be supreme–the individual that innovates and creates new ideas and new ways of doing things.

If Blacks are unable to compete as individuals, then they deserve to be the underclass–not because of their race, but because of their lack of contribution to the advancement of our country as a whole. There are very capable black people out there, and they do well, but those are not the people most black parents hold up to their children as role models. Therein lies the problem.

        2. mac12sam12 says

Obama took a bad situation and made it worse so no respect there and it was the democrats that tanked the economy starting in 2006.

    3. Michael Dowd says

People see what they want to see…with no connection to reality. Trump is O.K. Osamabama was a puppet for some ultra leftist jerks.

      1. gotabgood says

“People see what they want to see…with no connection to reality” .
Now stand in front of a mirror and read this out loud until you can answer this question truthfully.
        What are alternative facts?

        1. TexasCoyote1 says

Alternative facts are facts that fit the incident rather than the narrative the mainstream media is trying to put forward. Take Las Vegas for instance–the timeline keeps changing because this was most likely an op rather than the work of one crazed individual.

Mainstream media keeps trying to put a story together to support the one crazed individual scenario even though I have seen video of multiple shooters, some on the 4th floor and some on the ground.

In this case alternative facts include reports of these other shooters, but mainstream facts leaves these inconvenient little details out, so as best to put forth the narrative they want which is lone crazed people with guns are a danger that can be eliminated by gun control.

  5. Margaret says

I question the notion that “To Kill a Mockingbird” is a novel fit for children. Granted, eighth graders are on the cusp of high school but they’re at the beginning of their coming of age period. Somehow our educators seem to think that if a book’s characters are children, the book is children’s literature. Also there is a difference in children’s experiences depending on where they grow up. Kids in cities are exposed to situations different from those of rural kids. However, if the school’s decision is based on offensive language alone, I agree that avoiding exposure to that language is a mistake. More valuable would be to teach the students to consider historical context, intent, change in terminology with change in sensibility, etc.

    1. Amused says

Eighth graders are 13 to 14 years old. In approximately one year, some of them will apply for their driver’s permits. Many of them are attending school dances, dating and again unfortunately, having sex. ALL of them, at one time or another will face a moral dilemma, They will be unsure of which course of action they should take, or not. To Kill A Mockingbird”, a book about moral injustices and human dignity, is the perfect book to take on those issues, using Scout to narrate the story.
The “language issues” is completely disingenuous. They hear worse than that on their local radio stations.

    2. TexasCoyote1 says

I believe the foul language was just an excuse. Based on what I know of our educational system, the plot was the problem. Schools are teaching students that white people are racist by virtue of being white. “To Kill a Mockingbird” does not advance that thesis.

  6. Sgt. York says

The more these dips harp on anti racism the more they are pushing racism. They cannot get it thru their heads the more you start telling kids you can’t read this the more they are going to read and talk about it. Stupid anymore as those before them went thr this and they just finally dropped it and slowly it fades away and is no longer a issue. Keep it on the front burner and it gets bigger. This is why we must have American history to show what once was will come back to bite us again if we don’t learn.

    1. Laurence Almand says

Sgt York – Amen! Young people should read everything and anything – that is the way they learn to judge, evaluate, and think for themselves. Censorship of any kind – including this PC nonsense – is evil and goes against our Constitution. If I were a student in this school I would read the book and tell the stupid teachers to MYOB!

      1. AKLady says

Censorship by age is appropriate. Young children should not be reading X-rated novels.

        1. TexasCoyote1 says

X-rated novels shouldn’t be in a library. That problem can be solved easily. What we are discussing here is the active removal of everything that doesn’t fit the narrative put forth by today’s education system. Today’s system is trying to stifle the individual and glorify the collective.

          1. AKLady says

            You have been well-indoctrinated.

      2. Swampfox1965 says

        “Young people should read everything.”

How can that happen when they can’t read AT ALL. The liberal dominated school systems of today put the PC agenda above everything else — especially reading, writing and arithmetic.

But those snowflakes know “It Takes a Village” and “Heather Has Two Mommies” by heart because that’s about the only kind of trash teachers of today are allowed to teach.

        1. TexasMad71 says

There are still libraries and good parents start taking their kids there when they are small to help them select books. These kinds of kids grow up knowing the world as it really is. I did it with my kids, and so did my brother. One granddaughter is an award winning police officer. My other grandkids are conservative as well. One is bucking the system at a college in Sacramento. She’s a fiery little half Italian and she will let you know just how it really is. It’s all about raising your kid to know the right things in SPITE of the school indoctrination.

          1. Rodney Steward says

Absolutely my friend, THE HOME is where it starts!

        2. Laurence Almand says

You are correct, unfortunately. Modern standards are so low that we have high school students who can’t even read a newspaper. Most police departments have eliminated all written tests because low-IQ Blacks can’t pass them.
We even have college students who can’t write a correct term paper! “Equality” – that is, lowering standards to the least common denominator, has virtually ruined our “educational” system. Read the good book BRAINWASHED.

      3. TexasCoyote1 says

If you were a student in school today, you wouldn’t ready anything that wasn’t on Facebook or snapchat. Kids today don’t read, they “socialize.” We read because there was virtually nothing else to fill out day with until we were old enough to get a job.

    2. AKLady says

Gee, I cannot think of a better way to get children to do something you want thwm to do: tell them they cannot.

    3. TexasCoyote1 says

Don’t forget redefining racism to include everything. Even eating white rice is now racist–the flag is racist. Well, for me, if everything is racist, then let’s just get rid of the black culture and then we will have accomplished everything we are accused of being against.

    4. rfrichey says

The problem is American History has been changed. All of my life my elders warned me to be careful what you do because you can’t change history, if you do something wrong or right the record will always be there. The word history in still in the dictionary and I would suggest that all lefty idiots look it up.

  7. Tiger says

When schools start censoring reading materials, you know we are in the battle for this country on every front. When I was in college or high school etc. my teachers had a list, back then you read the Classics, you also read Plato, Aristotle and other philosophers, you read Shakespeare’s works and great poets all the way to Byron and further back. If a parent was not wanting their child to read some of this, the teacher gave alternative books but there was no few deciding for the many. No ONE person or a few parents changed the curriculum.

What kind of people will be running this country if this isn’t stopped? Think on it. We are on a cusp here, we are on the edge of the abyss and WE all have to fight to stop it.

    1. AKLady says

Schools have been censoring reading material from day one.

      1. TexasCoyote1 says

My school didn’t censor anything. My English teacher was more than willing to discuss anything from “Atlas Shrugged” to “The Communist Manifesto” to “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” and everything in between. But, of course, that was still in the time when the day started with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

        1. Phoebe Isley says

          Amen to that TexasCoyote1!

        2. AKLady says

That was also a time when there was far less material that needed to be taught. In other countries, schools run all year. In those schools, the first months do not need to spend the first month or so teaching everything that was forgotten over the summer break.

          1. TexasCoyote1 says

Your response has nothing to do with my post. My point was that true education involves the teaching of all points of view–not just the ones that advance the teachers’ views. Real teachers are willing to discuss every point of view and to help students to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each.

Forcing everyone to think only one ideology is the right one is what you liberal progressive think is right. You reduce the individual to just an insignificant piece of the whole instead of glorifying the individual for his or her own contribution.

          2. AKLady says

There are not enough hours in the school day to do what you demand.
Points of view are something for parents to teach,

      2. SUZANNE M. says

        SHUT UP!

    2. barnjoer says

Yes and the alternative books were NOT how to build A bomb or take over A School or kill mass numbers. Maybe Playboy LOL but as Tiger said the classics that your parents approved of. We even got our ASS BUSTED by the teacher in the classroom where the rest of the class say what happened when we miss behaved. That was an eye opener.
Bring it back, and this younger generation might have A little respect for the Country, the Flag and their elders!!!

      1. Tiger says

LOLOL how to build a bomb, even girls got their butts whipped if bad, by a female teacher, not a male. I got it a few times. I was always defying authority.

        1. barnjoer says

Have you not seen what is being taught in the Russian schools, start to finish break down and put back together and AK-47 in like a minute and A half to 2 minutes by not only the boys but the girls also . I am sure in Romania and all the other sub countries that used to be USSR are teaching this in school.

          1. Tiger says

We could use some children raised to know how to fight etc. I like the idea of everyone serving for some period of time. Like Switzerland and Israel.

          2. Rodney Steward says

Good home projects and work’s well!

          3. barnjoer says

Yep, serve the first 2 years out of High School is exactly what every male and female child should do. Not saying they should go fight but they should serve at least two years in the military to understand the discipline the commitment the patriotism and brother backing brother having your 6 at all times !

      2. TexasCoyote1 says

If all these “abused young black men” had gotten a few licks for snickering inappropriately or wearing clothes to school that belonged in a jail somewhere, maybe they would be alive today.

        1. barnjoer says

I know that’s right. The town I grew up in in central Texas did not matter if you were black white or Mexican. If a parent so you doing something wrong you got your ass busted and sat home and your parents were told exactly what you did and why you were punished and it was all good. We all got along did not matter what color you were. Right was right and wrong was wrong!!!

          1. TexasCoyote1 says

Yes, it was called neighborhoods. All parents looked out for everyone’s child. I grew up in Fort Worth, and there was a 2-block black neighborhood that was about 5 blocks from my house. The children in that neighborhood behaved just like all of us did. They dressed in the same clothes we did and got on the bus to take them to school every morning. Many of those young black people went on to successful jobs in industry and I know of one who became a vice-president of a major company. We said “hi” to people in the grocery store that we knew regardless of skin color.

The ghetto black culture that has so oppressed black people today did not exist. The tattoos and baggy pants and angry demeanor that gets young black men shot was not present at that time. The negative culture is the problem not the fact they are black. Whites who mimic these negative attitudes have just as much trouble getting jobs as blacks do.

    3. Ron Dapo says

Once again, on point Tiger. We need observations like yours. Please continue…

      1. Tiger says

Thank you I live in Florida, in my area my representative is a real fighter for the military and his constituents. Parents in Florida have caught several very bad things, books that didn’t tell the truth about our Founding Fathers and books that were called history books but had more about Islam than anything else. I stay informed, I have 4 grandchildren. Their parents very involved, making sure their reading materials are OK etc.

Years ago mother’s were allowed to help the teachers in the schools. I worked Baylor Shift to be with mine daily. We kept tabs on what was being taught. That changed when my daughter in the 6th grade, parents were taken out of the schools, now that I look back on it, I see it was planned, how can you teach what you want if eyes watching daily.

        1. TexasCoyote1 says

That’s correct. When my son started kindergarten, I volunteered, and I wound up in huge fights with the teachers–not in front of the children, of course, but after class. This issue started decades ago and just gotten worse.

BTW, I took my son out of public school 6 weeks into first grade. I couldn’t take it anymore.

          1. Tiger says

Good for you, our schools were pretty good and my daughter was in Excelled Classes and my oldest was already through an in his last year of high school, my youngest son, we transferred to another school.

You’re messing with a war Vet. and has seen more blood and guts than you ever will, I know her, she worked in their ER!!

          8. Jim Evans says

I beg your pardon. I am also a Vietnam Vet, and did you ever see any of your friends get blown in half by stepping on a land mine ? Did you ever hear men scream from getting hot metal from being in a mortar attack ? Did you ever see one of your buddies get shot in the head ? Well, i have. So don’t tell me shit about seeing blood and guts. During my two tours of Vietnam, i was out in the field and i carried a M60 Machine gun. Out in the field meaning i was in the infantry. I am also a Purple Heart recipient.

No Sir, just missed it, took the oath in 72 but knew a lot like you and went to school with a couple that didn’t come home and even know 2 that killed themselves! They were older than I was but still knew them and if I had been ordered to I would have! Thank you for your Service Sir, had a Uncle that served 2 tours, drank himself to death but he had one he$$ of a string of ears!

When my unit came back to the U.S., we marched through the streets of San Diego, and we was called baby killers and all kinds of names, and even spit at. We wanted to break rank, and hit the people with our rifle butts, but we couldn’t.

          15. Rodney Steward says

I know, it happened to about everyone that come home from that place, it made me mad as he$$ and I didn’t even go, even though I trained for it! And what about Kerry, he was as big of a backstabber about the war as he was under Obama, a lying POS, and Warren was an old hippy also! I wonder why the claymore, how ever you spell it wasn’t used in the Sand lands, that was a bad piece and there should be a stock pile of them some where!

First please let me thank you for your service to America.
Next, yes I have. Right after I received my commission from 2nd to 1st Louie I and my best friend were walking through a rice paddy joking around telling each other how great it was going to be to be getting home, we only lived a mile from each other before Nam in the same town, suddenly we heard a loud “click”, before I knew it I was wearing Mike’s large and small intestine all over my pot.
That was 17 August 1969 at 1422 hours, funny how you can remember things like that isn’t it, that was over 4 decades and I still have nightmares. So Sir, yes, I can relate to that….I can also remember bringing the guys back to my “M.A.S.H. unit just to repair them and send them right back out only to have their CO’s write home with nothing but bad news.
Again, sir Thank you for your service and this officer (ret) stands and salutes YOU.

Any updated thesaurus should list “left wing” as a synonym for “insane.”

  8. JCluvsTrump says

Did any of these morons even read the book?? Kind of doubt it. The protagonist is fighting racism!! He loses, but he does fight.

    1. TexasCoyote1 says

Apparently, they are fighting the written word “ni$$ger” as it was used in the South every day of every year, and I am sure is still widely used, but to actually read it is more than our young people can handle.

Probably the fact you mentioned that the protagonist (a WHITE attorney) is defending Tom Robinson (a BLACK man) is the sticking point. This messes with their narrative that white people never do anything good for black people. They can’t teach that and continue the NFL protests and the Antifa beatings because the book demonstrates that not all white people are racist.

      1. JCluvsTrump says

You are exactly right TC1 !! This book refutes their main complaint. And they can’t stand it and won’t have it. To ban this book is not only stupid and immoral, it should be criminal. Oh wait, I just described a liberal Democrat. Stupid, immoral and criminal.

  9. Maria castro says

Another beautiful classic down. Just like Gone with the Wind.

    1. Laurence Almand says

If most of the great classics like GWTW, WAR AND PEACE, MOBY DICK, etc. were submitted to our cowardly PC publishers today, they would never be published. Children should be taught that any kind of censorship is evil – which it is.
Our Founding Fathers knew the dangers of censorship, which is why the very first amendment guarantees freedom of speech and the press.

      1. Retired says

The Black Hitler results , They all need to go to Africa and learn the true history on the black slave trade which is not taught in our Education system .

    2. Barbaracvm says

Add Mark Twain’s books to the list. They are a view of what it was like to live at that time

      1. Murphmeister says

Yeah, in 8th grade we read ” Puddin’head Wilson ” by Mark Twain. Is that now on the list?

  10. Barbara Ervin says

Playing the race card only enflames racism! Too bad common sense is so lacking in our society.

  11. Laurence Almand says

More PC nonsense. MOCKINGBIRD is one of the best works of American literature. Modern young people should not be “protected” from anything. Such patronizing stupidity is nonsense! Young people should read all the great works of literature, regardless of their PC category – that is the way they learn about life.

    1. AKLady says

There is one which stands just as high: “Go Set a Watchman,” also by Harper Lee.

    2. pineapple says

I guess the Canterbury Tales will be banned next, due to offensive language.

    3. TexasCoyote1 says

Just read “1984” and “Brave New World.” It’s all there. Orwell and Huxley saw how this would play out decades ago.

      1. StormyKnight says

They were only a couple decades off.

        1. TexasCoyote1 says

But, you have to admit they were pretty close considering those books were written 40-50 years before this trend began. Some have said that Orwell just reversed the year he wrote the book (1948) to create the title. “Brave New World” is older, but in some ways, it was scarier.

    4. TexasMad71 says

Up here in the northern Ak Ozarks they still teach real history and patriotism. The DAR sees to that. The local community theater recently performed “Mockingbird”, and it was met with fine reviews. No snowflakes up here.

  12. buster says

This is how life was back then.. Learn from the past..By hiding the past we will repeat it. Please little snowflakes learn from the past. Do hide under the bed while the house burns down around you. Be smart and learn..history is history.. Some good and some bad..LEARN FROM IT.

  13. R. T. says

These Snowflakes don’t realise what racism is .
They don’t realize that the Civil rights biggest problem was the Southern Democrats and the laws that THEY PASSED !

    1. TexasCoyote1 says

And, if you go back farther, you will find those Southern Democrats passed those laws because of the oppression heaped on the South by the Republican Carpetbaggers that came to the South to plunder it after the Civil War. It was out of this oppression the Ku Klux Klan was born. Carpetbaggers were using fear of organized black people to oppress whites in the south. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

  14. Charlie says

The Democrats are at work here. It is their chance to lessen the range of this anti-white supremacist novel while claiming that they are doing it for the noble cause of anti racism. Anyone who actually reads the book knows that it shames the racists AND the intolerant. Shame on anyone blocking this message.

  15. AKLady says

The people posting on this blog don’t know a whole lot about Mississippi, or Alabama, or Arkansas, or Louisiana … They think abject racism is a thing of the past. However, white-supremacy and neo-Nazis have changed the battlefield.

    1. Swampfox1965 says

And Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson continue to fan the flames of this issue — which has made them both rich.

      1. AKLady says

        White men $1.00
        Mlack man $0.75
        White woman $0.65
        Black woman $0.45

        1. Rita Monette says

          Bullshit stats. Show your source.

          1. Tired... says

AKLady gets her stats from the same type of statistician who predicted that Hillary would win the election. I don’t bother with her anymore; her mind is closed and she lacks integrity.

        2. TexasCoyote1 says

I’ll even go so far as to say there is some validity in what you are saying. However, people are rewarded for what they contribute. Those who are innovative and creative are worth more. This educational system in place today does not reward innovation or creativity–it only rewards obedience to its set procedures. The collective over the individual. This mentality will destroy this nation’s ability to survive.

We saw this in Japan after WWII. The Japanese are great copiers, but because their social order is so strict, they are not great innovators. The innovators from the US helped rebuild Japan. The Japanese ran with it building better TV’s and electronics, but the Japanese did not create what they built. Those designs came from societies that had not killed the individual.

  16. Murphmeister says

The road to Hell is paved with Democrat intentions.

  17. Vonov says

The student should all be made to read it, possibly in conjunction with the movie featuring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch. That movie is one of the most faithful reproductions of a novel I have ever seen. Peck’s performance as Atticus Finch, is one of the most riveting pieces of courtroom drama you will ever see, and the scene in front of the jail, where Scout defends her father against a lynch mob as Atticus stands alone between the mob and Tom, is another reminder of something that used to happen all too often in the Deep South.

Our children will be ill-prepared to face a dark, violent, and dangerous world, if they are too fragile to even look at things which may be unpleasant or ugly.

  18. Barbara Johnson says

To kill a mockingbird was one of the best books and movie I have ever seen or read. It shows what real racism really is all about. If the kids in college do not recognize this fact they are on the road to total and complete ignorance.

    1. Swampfox1965 says

Most of them are near the end of that road. It’s a dead end for ’em.

  19. usncb says

To teach the same lessons nowadays in different books ? Are not these books racist also ? How did I ever make it through school, from K-through high school and then 2yrs of college for an assoc. degree ?

  20. Rita Monette says

Attacking the classics! If they are too sensitive to read that racism existed in the past, they they are erasing the facts that their complaints are based on. Just like destroying the monuments. Maybe they don’t want to be reminded that we have actually come a long way. Then they wouldn’t have anything to complain about. That just wouldn’t do!

  21. 99airforce says

They can block traffic, run their foul mouths, assault people wearing a mask and carrying a baseball bat but to kill a mockingbird is to harsh for them.

  22. Marcia Fridland says

The black people portrayed in TO Kill a Mockingbird are well-developed admirable characters. The book builds respect for people with traditional American values and deserves careful study by students who need to understand conflicts within the culture at the time. Pretending that history is something other than what it has been is a huge mistake that certainly underestimates the ability of our kids to deal with reality.

  23. Goodforall says

People have gone absolutely insane! How long has this book out and we are just now hearing it makes some students uncomfortable? Give me a freaking break! This madness needs to stop now.

    1. TexasCoyote1 says

The book is fine, but we have turned our young people into shrinking violets. I’m sure we read lots of things that made us uncomfortable or maybe we just had a wider tolerance for the world as it truly exists rather than this bland unchallenging world the leftist/communists desire.

  24. Jmanjo says

The educators have become the agitators! This BS about racism has gone far enough and it is time to take our country back and have these morons sit down and STFU! These are not school administrators. They are political hacks trying to hijack our schools. They should be run off the school boards and premises.

    1. TexasCoyote1 says

Pressure your Congresspeople to pass the bill introduced a couple of weeks ago to dissolve the Department of Education. Returning education to local school boards is the only possible way to solve this issue. If Mississippi school boards don’t want to require “To Kill a Mockingbird,” then they don’t have to, but hopefully Dallas schools and Omaha schools will.

    2. lucy_coleman says

start voting down the school levies. Start homeschooling. That is the only way to start taking back America. Also refuse to send your children to a liberal school. If they insist on attending one of these higher indoctrination centers, then your children can pay for their own education. We can’t do much about the twits running our schools now, but we sure can do something about the next generation.

  25. VirgoVince says

How many idiots does it take to make a School Board??

  26. barnjoer says

    One of the great classics!!

  27. SouthernPatriot says

Government schools with PC government teachers brainwashing and ranting propaganda. Safe zones to avoid the real world and micro-aggressions from anywhere. Living (if you can call it that) in a bubble. All the classics of American and English literature are being banned, or replaced by PC writings by leftists.

  28. John Williams says

The left wishes to deny the very fact and wish to rewrite the fact that it was democrats who kept blacks down on the plantation then, it is democrats who keep blacks, although by self choice today, down in the ghetto and in sec 8 housing today. It was democrats who formed the KKK, it was democrats who put blacks in the back of the bus then and it will be democrats who will throw blacks under the bus today after blacks are no longer useful to democrats. When we have a generation that must have counseling and a safe space after seeing a cotton ball, we know just how far down the crapper things have fallen.

  29. Stan says

I guess listening to the late great Richard Pryor, NWA or reading Mark Twain’s novels causes hurt the same as much hurt I have when reading “The Jungle” where Eastern Europeans are degraded.

As I read the article it appears neither tudents nor parents are complaining rather it is the school board making the decision not to include “To Kill A Mockingbird” in the reading list.

  30. Dennis Smith says

More liberal teachers try to control and ruin our children

  31. rfrichey says

For Gods sake don’t dare let these unripened brains read the bible, they could lose any sanity and intelligence they may have been born with. I hope to live long enough to see what the end result of today’s indoctrinations result in. I’ve already seen enough to scare Freddy Kruger.

  32. vinny says

    Book sounds good to me.

  33. Verna Safran says

The book banners could learn a good lesson from a character named Atticus Finch.

    1. TexasCoyote1 says

That’s the point Atticus Finch is doing what the teachers are teaching never happens. The teachers are teaching that white people are racist by birth. The plot of “To Kill a Mockingbird” does not portray this, so it must be banned to keep their racist narrative going and keep everyone stirred up and fighting in the streets. How else can the communists destroy this country from within?

  34. Justin Seine says

Our young do not attend schools anymore. They attend high priced, taxpayer funded and subsidized indoctrination camps commonly referred to as “Snowflake Factories”. They are taught what to think and not how to analyze and solve problems. They are taught that being an underachiever is a right and that it is someone else’s fault.

  35. James Jones says

What a crock. Maybe you should come to my rescue too I am uncomfortable that I may not have enough money to pay bills next month. Isn’t discomfort all it takes to abolish something? Well bills make me uncomfortable. Just playing Devils advocate here. My apologies. I just get so tired of all the ongoing BS!!

    1. The Capatin says

They can buy my performance costumes for returning to the stage. It is only $1500.00 for three of them. (That’s so that I can perform on behalf of the US military veterans).

  36. Lynne Douglas says

What a shame for one of the finest books ever written to be “banned” from 8th graders, who are
certainly old enough to understand and appreciate this classic. Actual racism is SUPPOSED to make
people “uncomfortable!” Thank heaven the marvelous movie version is still shown on TV. Liberals
claim to hate what went on during Nazi days when books were burned. Interesting thought process
    for so-called anti-racists to have…

    1. TexasCoyote1 says

It’s like their views on free speech. They are only for it when it advances their narrative. Otherwise, if it disagrees with what they think, it’s hate speech. I don’t believe this was what the founding fathers had in mind.

    2. Morton99 says

You’re nuts. Biloxi is run by Republicans. Andrew Gilich is the Republican Mayor. But I agree – its absurd what backward conservatives try and pull.

  37. A. Jay says

Whats scary here is that the snowflake students never exposed to anything bad will one day run this Country and make the laws we live by. God help us!!

  38. suerobb says

Blacks seem to love to through slavery, reparations and black injustice in our faces but a book that clearly defines this injustice is too offensive??? How are you suppose to portray it ?

  39. StormyKnight says

Yup, won’t be long now before the snowflakes think they’ve invented the idea of book burning. We seem to be headed down a politically correct path that has all the signs of what Germany went through before the Nazis took over.

  40. Kevin S says

Are these snowflakes brain-dead, on drugs, or both? Someone, PLEASE launch me into Outer Space!
It has become so pathetic that I no longer laugh at the sad, tragic clowns known as the snowflakes because they’re no longer funny. They’re too stupid and pathetic to be funny, any more.

    1. Rodney Steward says

Some of this starts at home also!!

  41. barbara says

Mr BO left this country in such a horrid MESS, thank God we now have President Trump to stop this madness of ‘don’t hurt my feelings’ Can’t wait for these snowflakes to enter into the REAL WORLD THEY ARE GOING TO BE SOOOO SURPRISED.

  42. Rodney Steward says

This WHOLE game started with our school systems under the Obama Tribe, 8 years of CHANGE is all we got and in no way was it for the good of our country! It done exactly what it was meant to do, D-I-V-I-D-E the country, and things are going to get much worse before we make it better!! MAGA!!!!

  43. justanagent says

History truly is cyclical. Hitler’s brown shirts shouted down and beat up those whose views they opposed then they burned books they deemed “offensive. Looks like the Nazi brown shirts would be right at home on many of our college campuses. The next time rioters decide to burn one down perhaps we should just let them (including the Chancellor’s residence) and never rebuilt it but instead just leave the charred ruins as a monument to what this insanity leads to.

  44. Morton99 says

This is a very poorly researched article. The Mayor of Biloxi – Andrew Gilich – is a Republican – as are most of the elected officers of the town. It is actually a perfect example of backward right wing ignorance where the local establishment decided that discussing racism and rocking the boat was imprudent.

    1. Rodney Steward says

Sorry Mort, Miss. is basically all Dem. and has one of the biggest Dem. base’s in the South!!

      1. Morton99 says

Wrong – it was Democrat quite a few years ago and is now very Red.

        1. Rodney Steward says

The only state in the South to vote Hillary, look at the voting map!!

          1. Morton99 says

Rodney – ALL states have both Democrat and Republican winners. That is an inane comment.

          2. Rodney Steward says

I know that Mort, I live in AL., I know how it is here in the South, been all over most of it!

          3. Morton99 says

and yet you got the election results totally wrong!

          4. Rodney Steward says

Good work Mort, a little shocking, there were 28 blue counties and 56 red, and he got the electoral there, that’s great!!

  45. Babsan says

The Democrat destruction of the school system has come home to roost.took 4-5 generations to get the society to this stage of complete destruction of the minds

  46. Larry Brule says

  47. John J. Mulhall says

It’s taken years, but it seems that teachers (and teachers of teachers) HAVE to be politically correct or be guilty (of something – like NOT being “of color” – or of appreciating this nation – or…) Gee – all you have to do is listen to the folks who call each other names – if they can do it, is it not politically correct to call them what they call themselves??? Time to purge the educational system of all those who would dumb us down and make us ‘snowflakes’ who melt down with the least amount of controversy (heat). Not long before we are no longer “…the home of the brave…”

  48. mohrri says

I’m so tired of these so called “snowflakes”, that when somebody calls me ‘racist” for what ever reason I told them “who the hell are you to call me racist, only because I don’t share your absurd “values” and because I’m white? WHAT A IDIOT!”…..The best thing we can do is to ignore their P.C. and continue with your life.

    1. Mike W says

They have played that race card into the ground – nobody cares anymore – Like the Little Boy who Cried Wolf – it won’t be around when they really need it.

  49. Mike W says

The snowflake left wing loons called Dr. Seuss a racist – Theodor Seuss Giesel – was one of them- I guess they did not know that before he starting writing children’s books Giesel worked for a left wing newspaper.

  50. Paul Otts says

They want to be protected and distanced from the words. Words have little meaning without context. In this case the book was written to be a time when most people still had racist attitudes against blacks. I dare say when those people used those words, most didn’t mean anything derisive. Yet these snowflakes are somehow managing to get history erased in every way. I’m glad my generation didn’t fear so much.

  51. Lewis Hopper says

JSIVO, the answer is BOTH! And sadly it will not only continue, it will get worse, as long as Libtards Demoncrats, Progressive Fools, Atheists, Muslims, BLM, Illegals, Socialist, Communists, and the LGBT,are allowed to have a say in Education, Politics, the Judicial system, and Law Enforcement!

  52. Larry Cowden says

I would guess it’s the teachers in their race to out racist all the other teachers. They want to see who can make the most outlandish racist claims in the nation as if it’s some golden fleece! There was a time many generations ago when teachers WERE teachers! They taught without politics, racism, lies and personal agendas. And students were inspired and encouraged to continue their education and become teachers, doctors, astronauts, and more. And our education system took us to the moon. Now all it does is take us to the toilet!! If parents were to physically clean house in their children’s schools buy removing ALL liberal teachers, the students would have a chance again to be students! Now they’re just pawns to be manipulated by the left!

  53. Ron C says

Well the freaks & creep’s should get rid of the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn books by Mark Twain also then…after all we don’t want any snowflakes having a melt down now do we…geez!

  54. rtwoods3 says

They need to track that there has not been a slave in this country for over a century and a half. Every time a black hollers about being “whopped” and made to work, they need to think about that. Their grandparents were not slaves their parents were not slaves and they are not slaves. They need to get over that issue. They also need to teach how many tax dollars go to help and lift up the “oppressed” blacks. I was a grant writer for thirty years and the answer to that is billions! The blacks act like nothing has been done to help them. In truth a great deal has been done for them. Entitlements, EEO, AA, health programs, educational programs, assistance with child care, assistance with food, ect., etc. I am researching to try to put a dollar value to all of the programs for blacks, I know it is in the billions just in the last twenty years or so. These dollars come from state and Federal government funds. In other words, your tax dollars. It is very funny how the blacks conveniently pass right over all of that information and go to police killing blacks or whites killing blacks. Black lives matter, well so do white lives. Why don’t they look into black on black crime. Why don’t they look in to black on white crime. You know when the white idiot shot up the black church, it was on the news for weeks, they sometimes bring it up still. When the black guy shot up a white church it got a very brief mention for two days. The blacks have a TV network, BET. If the whites had a network, WET, it would be horribly racist. The blacks have a magazine, Ebony. If the whites had a magazine, Ivory, it would be racist. What the hell do we owe them and why. We have been paying for years. The NFL players think it is fine to disrespect this countries National Anthem, even on foreign soil! If they disrespected Knglands National Anthem, they would not be playing there again! My Uncle lost a leg in WW11. My Father fought in WW11 and Korea. My Cousin was killed in Veitnam. All so we could be free. If it were not for this country, those NFL players would NOT be getting paid millions for playing a GAME. I know they have the right to disrespect our country, but we have the right not to go or watch games on TV. Everyone should write, call or email their congress people and tell them they don’t want any tax dollars going to buy TV commercials during an NFL game. Tell them there should be no more fly overs. There should be no more military bands or color guards. People shoul write to companies that sponsor the nfl games and tell them they will not buy their products. We need to work very hard to get all the programs that have been for blacks published and get in neither news and online. When blacks talk about what they don’t have, talk about what they have been given! When the news stations make an issue about something that happened to a black, we need to contact them and ask why that story gets days, even weeks of coverage, but when a white gets killed by a black it gets a mention.. We need to ask why the news does not cover black on black crime the way it covers police on black crime. If the NFL players want to protest about police shooting blacks, they should turn in their uniform and join the police force.. They would miss a little money, millions versus maybe 45K a year. Please don’ sit back and do nothing. Write your congress person about sponsoring the NFL, look into the programs for blacks and call your local news station an tell them about it.. Send letters to newspaper editors about black programs and the amount of money that goes in to them. Get it out there online. You can find out from state legislators and federal senators and representatives. Of course the democrats will be reluctant to help you. Do not just sit and take this crap. Do something. Together we can show who the true racists are!!

Ban the classics, that address the very thing the so called Progressives aka Communists, are against. Read between the lines. The progressives are doing everything they can to destroy this country. They want utopia , where a few elects control the people, they hate liberty, they hate the people being free, they hate our constitution . We are in a war and this babbling of a classic book is just one of many battles. The progressives have infiltrated school boards and committees, they have to be identified and voted out as their terms come up.

What the heck is wrong with the liberal sucka thumbs our days. They are so bad they hire Thugs to do their dirty work who when not busy with them are out killing cops. Straighten out kids it is your country you are screwing up and in about 5 years for those who come to,will wish you didn’t act like such you know what’s. You are un American Fop’s. .

Growing up in a family and town where open prejudice isn’t experience I never looked at that side when I saw the movie back in the sixty’s. When all of this first surfaced I felt sympathy for the Black plight, but since exploited by Jackson and Sharpton, Black Lives matter, the black panthers, George Soros, the sympathy isn’t as strong, but switched to all American Citizens who are now threatened by the violence and our un informed youth.

The idiots who wrote this article apparently think “the left” is for banning this book, when in fact it was the decision of the Buloxi school board, not normally viewed as a hotbed of communist agitation, save perhaps by Alex Jones. In contrast, Arne Duncan, the former secretary of education in the Obama administration, voiced opposition to the book’s removal. Pretty much ALL book banning in the USA has been instigated by the ultra-conservative right, but Bizpac readers are either too ignorant or just not interested in facts, and so remain unaware of this.

My daughter, who is of mixed race, read this classic book with her class in English last semester. It was really great. It got the kids talking about race, justice, and the danger of preconceived misconceptions regarding race. They talked about trials, lawyers and ignorance being a reason people felt they way they did.
It was a great lesson and no child was harmed, they were enlightened.

I think repression of racial misunderstanding just lets it smolder until it explodes uncontrollably like what’s happening now. Also being so quick to call every comment or commenter that says something with which you don’t agree racist does not help bring us together, but in fact, further divides us, making non-racists (to the degree that anybody is non-racist) more defensive & true racists more willing to be blatant about their racism, which is just what we have now.

  78. Debbie Bowman says

  79. ernldo says

Fact 1: The first official slave owner in America was an Angolan who adopted the European name of Anthony Johnson. He was sold to slave traders in 1621 by an enemy tribe in his native Africa, and was registered as “Antonio, a Negro” in the official records of the Colony of Virginia. He went to work for a white farmer as an indentured servant.

Prior to 1654, all Africans in the thirteen colonies were held in indentured servitude and were released after a contracted period with many of the indentured receiving land and equipment after their contracts for work expired. Johnson would later take ownership of a large plot of farmland after the expiration of his contract and, using the skills he had learned during his indentured labor service, Johnson became moderately successful.

By July 1651 Johnson had five indentured servants of his own. In 1664, he brought a case before Virginia courts in which he contested a suit launched by one of his indentured servants, a Negro who adopted the name of John Casor. Johnson won the suit and retained Casor as his servant for life, who thus became the first official and true slave in America.

Thus the accusation that whites “started slavery” in America is utterly untrue: blacks in Africa sold each other as slaves, and the first true lifelong slave in America was owned by a black man, not a white.

Fact 2: The transatlantic slave trade was dwarfed by the Arab or Muslim slave trade, which lasted from 650 AD to 1900 AD. It is estimated that a minimum of 18 million Africans were enslaved by Arab slave traders, and that over one million Europeans were enslaved by the Muslim world during the same period.

The Muslim slave trade saw Africans exported to regions throughout the Middle East and even to India, while the Europeans were captured in raids in Spain, Italy, France, Britain, and Ireland. These raids were launched from North Africa, and during the Islamic occupation of Iberia and southern Italy, from the latter regions as well.

The invasion of southeastern Europe by the Ottoman Turks saw even more Europeans enslaved into the Muslim world—but their numbers are unknown.

The Muslim trade in slaves, both black and white, was therefore longer lasting and far more extensive than the transatlantic slave trade—but there are today no cries of “Arab guilt” or demands for reparations against Muslim nations.

Fact 3: James Oglethorpe (1696–1785) was a British general who founded the colony of Georgia in 1732. From the very beginning, Oglethorpe ensured that slavery was banned in the colony, and that Africans were barred from entering the territory. The colony’s founding charter also forbid Roman Catholicism from being established in the region.

It was only in 1750, after Oglethorpe had left the colony, that the ban on slavery was lifted.

Fact 4: Many free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large.

In 1830, a fourth of the free Negro slave masters in South Carolina owned 10 or more slaves; eight owning 30 or more.

According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of them living in the southern slaveholding states.

Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. Black Duke University professor John Hope Franklin recorded that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city.

In 1860 there were at least six Negroes in Louisiana who owned 65 or more slaves. The largest number, 152 slaves, were owned by the widow C. Richards and her son P.C. Richards, who owned a large sugar cane plantation.

Another Negro slave magnate in Louisiana, with over 100 slaves, was Antoine Dubuclet, a sugar planter whose estate was valued at (in 1860 dollars) $264,000.

In Charleston, South Carolina in 1860, 125 free Negroes owned slaves; six of them owning 10 or more. Of the $1.5 million in taxable property owned by free Negroes in Charleston, more than $300,000 represented slave holdings. In North Carolina 69 free Negroes were slave owners.

(Source: Black Masters: A Free Family of Color in the Old South, Michael P. Johnson and James L. Roak New York: Norton, 1984.)

Fact 5: In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to the US census report for that last year before the Civil War, there were nearly 27 million whites in the country. Some eight million of them lived in the slaveholding states.

The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves. Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the country (or 4.8 percent of southern whites owning one or more slaves).

The figures show conclusively that, when free, blacks disproportionately became slave masters in pre-Civil War America. The statistics outlined above show that about 28 percent of free blacks owned slaves—as opposed to less than 4.8 percent of southern whites, and dramatically more than the 1.4 percent of all white Americans who owned slaves.

The only way to stop this racist communist agenda is to run for or elect conservatives to your School Board and School Superintendent offices. If you have children in public school and you leave it up to others to do those jobs or to run for those offices, you will have no right to complain. You will be the biggest part of the problem. Leftist Teacher’s Union leaders fear activist conservative parents more than anything else. They can manipulate politicians easily. They have little or no influence over conservative parents who are involved with their children, except perhaps to get them mad.

I fear they will be offended by 1000’s of things in their life. They could reduce the CO2 out put and do away with them selves. No more being offended, and lot let air pollution with stupid statements.

Why would you not simply ignore someone that speaks English so poorly?

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
I just received this from one of the typical bully cowards of the DNC. He or she hides behind a “private” thing meaning he can see everything you post BUT you are not allowed to respond to him…HOWEVER it looks like he can post to your personally thus avoiding the middle man.
Please real and respond as need be…I will respond in the only manner I can to defiend myself by doing it in all caps.

The fact that your brain does not even consider ‘Chitown’ (aka:Chicago), let alone come to the proper conclusion, suggests you’re a bit stupid. (THAT SEEMS TO BE YOUR POV)

That you so readily accept that a foreigner would know more about the United States and your primary language than you do not only proves you are stupid, it demonstrates that you are very aware of your shortcomings.

That you take a dumb, thoughtless mistake and build on it, just as you did with “It’s safe to assume that AK means Arkansas” clearly exposes you as a laughably impertinent clown.

The fact that your brain believes that ‘whatever’ is two words, despite having seen the word in print many thousands of times reinforces my claim that you’re stupid.

Your last silly taunt, thrown in seemingly as an afterthought, demonstrates three of your major personality flaws.

    1. You’re a coward, and your thin skin refuses to even contemplate that I simply do not like you because you’re stupid and run your mouth like a fool. I am, and have been for two years, a solid Trump supporter…yet like any truly stupid, mouth-running coward you need (actually ‘need’) to believe that any criticism is born of ideological differences, as if somehow the onus for your dumb mistakes can be put on me.

    2. Your inability to discern your from you’re solidifies my

    3. That you even felt the need to get in one more jab, that you almost immediately screwed up, provides a clue as to how you can be so ignorant, despite decades of reading…you are the classic imbecile that simply cannot learn because you do not possess the intelligence, nor even the ability to shut up while you’re ahead.

You can call me a liberal, or Chinese, or whatever silliness your muses whisper to you when you lie awake at night wondering where your life
    went…just know this, stupid.

Those who not laugh at you to your face, as I do, are laughing at you behind your back. I know this, for smart people as well as moderately intelligent people all laugh at simpletons behind their backs. I’ll bet you have long suspected we mock you for sport.

I despise you, and every truly dumb MF’r like you. You’re (see how easy, stupid?) silly and buffoonish, and you are a real detriment to our common cause. You are our party’s Code Pink. Your value begins and ends in the voting booth.

If you’re still around in 2020, the best thing you can do is ‘pull the lever’ for President Trump and stumble out of the booth clutching your chest, and be proud that your very last act in history was a smart one, as you collapse on the gym floor.

The Biloxi system is concerned that a white lawyer would defend a black man accused of raping a white girl in the 1930s. My farm that they are the bigoted ones and conservative/reactionary.
