Did Obama CIA Have a Spy in the Trump Campaign?
Recent reports from the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post have raised intense questions about whether or not Obama’s intelligence agencies had a top-secret spy embedded in the Trump campaign.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes is trying his best to get more information about this secret source, but he has been stonewalled at every turn by the CIA and the FBI. The intelligence community’s unwillingness to share information about this source has only stoked the fires of speculation. It doesn’t help that leaks from within the FBI have confirmed that the source is a “U.S. citizen who has provided intelligence to the CIA and FBI.”
The source may be an American citizen, but the intelligence agencies have said that revealing information about him/her would potentially “damage relationships with other countries that serve as U.S. intelligence partners.”
At the end of April, Nunes sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions warning that he would consider a congressional subpoena if the Justice Department did not provide more information pursuant to his requests. Finally, under threat of further action, the Justice Department released the information to Nunes last Wednesday.
Though the DOJ continues to assert that the release of this information would put lives in danger, House Speaker Paul Ryan said last week that he believed that Nunes’ requests were “wholly appropriate” and within the scope of his role as Intelligence Committee chairman.
“I spent some time looking at the HPSCI request, at the HPSCI investigation. I think this request is wholly appropriate,” Ryan told reporters on Thursday. “It’s completely within the scope of the investigation that’s been ongoing for a while with respect to FISA. I actually think that this is something that probably should have been answered a while ago.”
In an interview with Fox News, the Wall Street Journal’s Kimberley Strassel – whose reporting has been crucial when it comes to this mysterious source – said that all signs point to the Obama intelligence community having a mole inside the Trump campaign.
“It does look as though indeed, there was an FBI attempt – a successful one – to basically go out and spy with a human asset on the Trump campaign,” said Strassel on Friday. “When the FBI talks about a source, they talk about someone who is an average citizen who uses their credentials, their job as a way of spying for the agency. We can take that to mean that there was somebody interacting with the Trump campaign and reporting back to the FBI, which means the FBI was using human intelligence to spy on a presidential campaign.”
That prospect is grim enough; it becomes even more so when combined with the fact that we STILL do not know what really led the FBI to open an official counter-intelligence investigation against the Trump campaign in the first place. We originally heard it was the Steele dossier. When that trash was discredited, we heard it was because George Papadopoulos was running his mouth in an Australian bar. Now we have to wonder if either of these stories have any validity; did the initial trigger come from these two sources…or from Obama’s spy inside the campaign? And if it came from there, then why was the spy on the campaign BEFORE the investigation began?
Many questions to be answered here, and we can’t imagine that Jim Comey, John Brennan, Jim Clapper, or any other Obama official is eager to answer them.
