Eric Trump Blasts Kellyanne Conway’s Husband for “Utter Disrespect”
George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, has made a second career for himself over the last two years, bashing President Donald Trump – his wife’s boss – on the internet every time he gets the chance. Apparently determined to seize the spotlight away from his wife, Conway – who supported Trump during the campaign – takes out his personal frustrations and limitations on the president regularly on Twitter.
That included a tweet this weekend, where he accused Trump of breaking the law in his remarks about Roger Stone. It was apparently that tweet that finally sent the president’s son, Eric Trump, over the edge.
“Of all the ugliness in politics, the utter disrespect George Conway shows toward his wife, her career, place of work, and everything she has fought SO hard to achieve, might top them all,” wrote Eric. “@KellyannePolls is great person and frankly his actions are horrible.”
Mr. Conway’s tweet on Monday, which quoted the president and then cited the U.S. statute (witness tampering) that Trump supposedly violated, was only the latest of many anti-Trump screeds he has posted on social media. Last month, he collaborated on a New York Times editorial in which he accused President Trump of acting unconstitutionally in appointing Matthew Whitaker the acting attorney general.
Not long ago, Kellyanne addressed the outsized attention her husband’s tweets and commentary receive. In addition to changing her Twitter bio to read, “The ‘Kellyanne Conway in ‘Kellyanne Conway’s Husband,’” she told the Washington Post that she finds her husband’s obsession with criticizing the president “disrespectful.”
“I think it disrespects his wife,” she said. “I feel there’s a part of him that thinks I chose Donald Trump over him. Which is ridiculous. One is my work and one is my marriage.”
Naturally, Eric’s tweet inspired an onslaught of arguments on Twitter, with some taking Kellyanne’s side and others taking George’s. As of Tuesday, the woman of the hour herself had yet to weigh in on the dispute. But even without her input, we have to side with Trump’s son. Maybe Kellyanne doesn’t really care what her husband is up to, and we’re sure their marriage can survive a difference of opinion when it comes to politics. But some of the things Mr. Conway tweets ride up to the line of denouncing the entire administration as a criminal enterprise, and that directly throws his wife under the bus.
A marriage can withstand a typical Republican/Democrat divide, no doubt, but can it really survive that?
Guess we’ll see.
