FBI Condemns “Cowardly, Brazen” Shooting at ICE Office in San Antonio
FBI agents are investigating a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in San Antonio, Texas as of Tuesday morning. The shooting, which mercifully spared the lives of all employees working in the building at the time, is nonetheless being considered a “targeted attack” on federal workers by the Bureau’s lead investigators.
In remarks to the press, Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs said that an unknown number of suspects fired several rounds into two ICE offices in San Antonio at around three in the morning. Despite the late hour, though, there were federal employees present in the building, at least one of whom was in such proximity to the shooting that he could have easily been hurt or killed.
“Two inches in another direction, we could be talking about the murder of a federal official,” Combs said solemnly.
“These shootings were cowardly, brazen, violent acts, absolutely without justification and a threat to our entire community,” he continued. “An attempt to attack federal employees is a federal crime with serious consequences. The FBI will relentlessly pursue every lead in this case to find the individuals who are responsible.”
While the federal building in San Antonio houses offices other than those belonging to ICE, Combs said the location of the bullet holes made it obvious which offices the perpetrator was targeting.
“I don’t think there is a question that they knew which floor the ICE office is on,” Combs said. “To fire indiscriminately into any building is not an act of protest but an act of violence.”
In a statement to reporters, an ICE spokesperson said the agency was concerned about the current political rhetoric coming from the left, which could potentially inspire further attacks against federal officials.
“Political rhetoric and misinformation that various politicians, media outlets, and activist groups recklessly disseminate to the American people regarding the ICE mission only serve to further encourage these violent attacks,” said spokesperson Nina Pruneda. “ICE officers put their lives on the line each and every day to keep our communities safe. This disturbing public discourse shrouds our critical law enforcement function and unnecessarily puts our officers’ safety at risk.”
Exactly. It’s time to be very clear about the Democrats, the media, and their collective propaganda campaign against ICE, the Border Patrol, and other federal officials in charge of enforcing immigration law. Their diseased rhetoric is no different from the lies they habitually tell about American police officers. Indeed, it’s time to recognize that ICE agents ARE police officers, and the laws they enforce are every bit as legitimate as the ones enforced in every city in this country. Targeting them IS targeting the police, and Republicans need to shame them mercilessly for doing that.
Oh, and a side note: We couldn’t find a word about this incident in The New York Times (which is too busy telling us how “black people saved democracy” or the Washington Post (which is still running front-page stories about the “send her back” chant). How utterly predictable.
