Founder of the Weather Channel Slams Global Warming

The climate change movement has gained such unstoppable momentum in the past decade that it comes as a surprise when anyone prominent has the guts to stand up against it. It is even more surprising when that someone is the co-founder of the Weather Channel.

John Coleman, though, has decided that the theory of man-made global warming is no longer scientifically viable. Having closely studied the topic of climate change for years, Coleman insists that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has it all wrong. “There is no significant man-made global warming at this time, there has been none in the past, and there is no reason to fear any in the future.”

Coleman’s breadth of contrary evidence comes largely from the NIPCC, a collection of scientists unaffiliated with world governments, who aim to offer a “second opinion of the evidence” in contradiction to the findings of the IPCC. Though Coleman acknowledges that some evidence points to rising global temperatures, he contends that it can be easily explained by natural phenomena rather than carbon dioxide and man-made pollutants.

Coleman’s credentials do not include a degree in meteorology, but he has been invested in the TV weather business for more than 60 years. This is certainly not the first time he’s spoken out against what he calls “the greatest scam in history.” He penned a long, detailed column in 2009 called The Amazing Story Behind the Global Warming Scam. In it, he detailed the history of climate change science, claiming that a quest for funding led unscrupulous scientists, government bureaucrats, and environmental activists to perpetuate an unproven hoax for more than half a century.

Polarized Beyond Repair

I’ve long called for more rationality when it comes to this debate over global warming. Both sides of the debate have lost all measurable perspective. It has become a wholly political issue when it should, in fact, have nothing at all to do with politics. Unfortunately, the left has hijacked the science, leaving conservatives with no other choice but to oppose them. Very few conservatives I know categorize themselves as “global warming deniers.” Almost every liberal I know, however, thinks that we’re going to be struggling through some kind of ice age in the next fifty years.

Why has it become so polarized? Is it a “scam,” as claimed by John Coleman? Is it the greatest threat to our planet, as claimed by Democrats? Or is the truth, as it usually happens, somewhere in the middle? Neither side wants to admit to this possibility. Those who worship at the altar of global warming think that anyone who questions man’s influence on climate change is a crackpot. Those who think it’s a hoax cannot be swayed by all the scientific evidence in the world.

Fortunately, our political leaders are not quite as entrenched in their positions as those in the blogosphere. I can’t say I agree with the amount of emphasis Obama’s administration has put on the subject, but Republicans, CEOs, and many responsible politicians on both sides of the aisle have made strides to reduce our environmental impact in a way that doesn’t kill the economy. Through his Healthy Forests and Clear Skies initiatives, President George W. Bush was able to move our environmental policies forward without indulging extremists. That’s exactly the kind of leadership we need when it comes to these issues. Less hype, more substance.

    What do y’all think?

..And some years are worse than others.

      1. Mark Clemens says

        Think about this:
The world is like 4 billion years old
Dinosaurs use to live here. They were huge REPTILES
        Reptiles are cold blooded animals
Therefore the planet had to be much hotter than right now. Think of the size of a Brontasaurous (how ever you spell it) or a T Rex. The big dinosaurs had to have a much hotter climate. I think 40-50 degrees warmer than the African Equator. Also it couldn’t freeze for 3 or 4 months, or they would of died off in a few centuries. Dinosaurs did live here for around 180,000,000 years. We may of been here like 100,000 at best.
Also according to the Rock Record Earth has had 7, 10,000+ year Ice Ages. We actually had a mini ice age during the mid to late 17th century (not many factories either).
I’ll tell you what I think causes drastic global climate changes…….The Huddle Effect. Look it up, then think about the Sun expanding. ……….

        1. jerry says

Evidence is showing that many dinosaurs were warm blooded, and had feathers.
That aside; Greenland, which is currently covered with ice, used to be a farming community.
50+ years ago, when I was in high school, my science teacher taught that in the next 100y we’d be moving into the next ice age.
          Take your pick.

          1. LastGasp says

We must have gone to the same high school, 50+ years ago,,,,my science teacher said the same thing.

          2. Mark Clemens says

Man did survive the last Ice Age w/only crude shelter and fire. Now we have mechanized heat and conditioned air. I think we could survive both. The later dinosaurs had features. Most of their time here they were bald. Alligators and Crocodiles are left overs from the dinosaur age, they are cold blooded. A reptile is a reptile.

I live in Orlando. Actually, the whole state of Florida has “no helmet” requirements when riding motorcycle! Yes, it is a dumb law and I should actually be wearing one: Just the other day I pulled up behind a van – woman driver – HUGE woman. She yells back at me, “You should be wearing a helmet sir. I ride a 650 and I wear mine!”. Well, when you’re sick and tired of everyone telling you what the hell to do, you’ll understand my frustration. I yelled back: “Yeah, and you should lose about 150 pounds too and mind your own damned business bitch!” Needless to say, she rolled her window up fast!
Point being, as my father always preached, amongst both male and female, some people stand up to take a leak, some sit down – your choice!!

          1. Mark Clemens says

          6. ringostarr1 says

The truth of the matter is that the government gave auto makers a 5 year grace period before mandatory seat-belt installation became the law of the land, that is if the auto makers would only lobby the states to pass mandatory seat-belt buckle up laws. So millions and millions of Americans bought cars without seat belts so that the auto makers didn’t have to install seat belts.

          7. livefree1200cc says

That entire law was pushed through by the Insurance cartels. If you are buckled in, they end up keeping more of the money paid in.

          8. slotiac32 says

Seat belts save lives; that’s one of the few safety laws which makes sense, like helmets for motorcycle riders saves craniums. You need to wake up.

          9. livefree1200cc says

Your masters must be proud of how you have grown up to be a perfectly behaved slave. Of course seatbelts save lives (most of the time anyway). That doesn’t give anyone the right to force me to wear one at gunpoint or to fine me extraordinary amounts of money if I don’t. The insurance companies pushed that law through, I don’t remember voting on that one, do you???? I wear a helmet on a motorcycle because I want to. If you go over 25 mph you would be a fool not to. However there is your first clue that we are being treated like slaves. If you are forced to wear a seat belt in a car then you should NEVER even be able to even OWN a motorcycle using the same logic. You CAN’T be seat belted in (and its a much more dangerous mode of transport). The bottom line is that its our lives at risk and OUR decision to make. Only the sheep don’t see it that way. Now go back to the flock and be a good sheep

          10. slotiac32 says

Me, a sheeple? HAHAHAHAHAHA-you’re an idiot. Why should the county or insurance co’s have to pay for your cranial operation or crushed chest as a result of your “exercising your right” to get hurt? Get a brain.

          11. dondehoff says

“Livefree, it appears your logic, deductive reason and common sense has been misplaced, unless you have no regard for your fellow man. Read my post to “Montana”. Seatbelts in cars save lives, including those in other vehicles. One does not have a right to kill someone with an automobile (vehicular homicide), any more than you do with a gun. And, applying the same logic, to cars and motorcycles, just does not “compute”. I suspect if you voiced that opinion to the DMV people, you would be denied a license for both. Among other things, I have about 4500 hours flying airplanes of several kinds, Would you want to fly with me through a thunderstorm, if I did not use a seatbelt (and shoulder straps)? I suspect you would have your seatbelt on, very tight—on the ground you have vehicle “storms”.

          12. livefree1200cc says

You are an idiot, I bet you vote Democrat

          15. ol jim says

Yes seat belts do help in a crash, one thing no one ever brings up about the helmet thing for bikes is this. Sure your head is fine from the ears up, What about the rest of your body that is smashed all to hell? If I were on a bike and was hit by a car or truck I think it would be better to be dead then having a body you no longer can use. Think about it.

          16. dondehoff says

“ol jim?”, exactly what do you want us to think about? I am sure the “two-wheel” industry would be open to a an effective and reasonable method of saving lives on a motorcycle, in addition to a helmet. They do recommend leather jackets trousers and boots, but I don’t think they are mandatory in any jurisdiction, except in sponsored races and skill events. And, experience has dictated the head is the most vulnerable and can be protected (to some extent) by a helmet. I can not think of any additional equipment, other than is already on the market and “between one’s ears”.

          17. ol jim says

yes any protection would be great if it saves your life. What I was saying is a helmet can protect your head but what good is that if from your neck down is useless

          18. MontanaMRB says

dondehoff & ol jim I am one of those quote unquote BIKERS and have now been riding around 40 yrs now & yes my bikes might yet be the death of me but it should be the persons right to decide if they want to were a brain bucket or not as it should be with the seat belts as well of witch I refuse to were as well with a legitimist excuse for them both but if Ya’ll don’t know what it is like being closterfobic you wouldn’t understand anyway

          19. dondehoff says

Montana, the use of seat belts also save lives in “other” vehicles. That extra few seconds staying behind the wheel and on the brakes, frequently result in an “other” life saved. And there are helmet’s so designed to prevent or reduce that “close in” feeling of claustrophobia. Surely seat belts don’t have that effect. It appears to me you are one self-centered person.

          20. Terry Rushing says

What happened to the concept of “everyone has the right to be victim of his own folly”? I would be first to agree that government can and should make reasonable rules to protect others from poor judgment of individuals, but I fail to see why it should make rules about activity that offers no harm to anyone other than the actor. It’s like government is proclaiming itself to be your guardian because it deems you to be incompetent.

          21. dondehoff says

Terry, what happen to that right?—-it never existed. You obviously have not been in many accidents, otherwise you would know frequently there are injuries and deaths to purely innocent people, caused by one who did not have their seat belt fastened. As I told “livefree”, if you told the DVM people that “logic”, they probably would not issue you a license. That extra few seconds you might have, because your seat belt was fastened, just might mean the difference between life ad death, for yourself and for innocent others.

          22. Mark Clemens says

Are they saving that money for head injuries? In my opinion our country started going to hell when we were made to buckle up, and not allowed to smoke anywhere.

          23. dondehoff says

Mark, you are either ill informed or jujst don’t care. . Seat belts save the lives of thousand of people every year, including drivers, passengers and often innocent bystanders or in other cars. As for smoking, go behind the barn and do it, but not where I have to inhale your “second hand” smoke—it is just a deadly as that you inhale.

          24. Mark Clemens says

Second hand smoke science is about as accurate as global warming science, there are to many variables to say for sure. The only reason nonsmokers came up with that, is because cigar and cigarette smoke stinks. No science needed, cigarette smoke will funk up a house or hotel room in a heartbeat.
“The Constitution is here to protect us from people w/good intentions” -George Washington

          25. Marie says

You got that right. 25 years ago, we were going to die because it would be too cold to grow our food. Also, some people who are against smoking are phonies. I’ve had people come up to me and when they saw I had a cigarette in my hand, they would start coughing…..even tough the cigarette wasn’t even lit.

          26. dondehoff says

Mark, you must be smoking something other than tobacco. The medical world is awash with well documented evidence that smoking, as well as other issues like coal miners, grain silo workers, smelter workers, crop spraying etc. cause serious lung problems. Unfortunately the problem don’t appear until many years later. And it is also been proven beyond doubt that second-hand smoke is equally serious in that it is inhaled “deeply” into the lungs as a normal part of respiration—I trust you don’t smoke around your family, or are you one of those who insists that unregulated smoking is a “right”? A person has no more “right” to smoke around others than they do to drive a car without seatbelts being used.

          27. WealthyNot says

No sir, it’s not insurane companies get to keep more of their money. When an insurance co. has “mutual” in its name, saving money is saving MY money because I am a part owner of the mutual funds. Saving company money is saving my money too.

          28. dondehoff says

“livefree……..”, no, the law was passed when policemen, ambulance and rescue crews, surgeons, surviving passengers and the guy with one leg, all said, “safety belts would save thousands of lives, each year”. I am a retired pilot, Would you want to be a passenger on my airplane if I did not user my seat belt (and shoulder harness)? Would you not want that “weaving” drunk approaching your vehicle at 100 MPH, not to have a seat belt on? And I give a “thumbs down” on the four “thumbs up” you received. Sir, there is far more involved in this safety issue than just you—-commit suicide if you want, but don’t take others with you.

          29. dondehoff says

Mark…….”, surely you jest or do you live in the dark ages? Seat belts save thousands of lives each year. Also, they keep the driver behind the wheel when cars are out of control, which save more lives—all of which significantly lower our insurance premiums. Also, have you not seen what was left of a child that went through a windshield? Yes, surely, you jest!

          30. Mark Clemens says

Here’s the paradox on the Florida helmet/seatbelt law. All you said is true. By that logic shouldn’t the biker have to wear a helmet?
The helmet could be the difference between walking again or worse. VS having the protection of the helmet, and walking away.. Not saying the lid is 100% protection, neither is a seatbelt.
In my opinion the government has no right to say how you do or don’t die. If it’s law to wear a seatbelt, logic should dictate bikers should have to wear a helmet. A paralyzed biker cost the insurance company just as much as a paralyzed motorist……….
Here in Tennessee you have to wear both…..

          31. slotiac32 says

Her poor 650 must have flat tires and a flattened-out seat! LOL

          32. Sue4477 says

Do you mean to say Florida has a law that you must wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle? You were a little hard to understand on that one. Yes, that is the law in FL whether we like it or not.

          33. Michael Dennewitz says

I thought it was well stated Sue, “No helmet law!” You’re NOT required to wear a helmet when riding motorcycle!

          34. livefree1200cc says

Think about that – why would there be a LAW saying you DON’T have to do something? Laws are made for things you can’t do not thing you can. Sue is right on this one, not the dipstick she was answering

          35. Michael Dennewitz says

Thank you for your mundane comments, and if I might lower myself to your level, GFY..

          36. Sue4477 says

Thank you. That’s exactly what I was thinking. My answer above tells the rest of the story.

          37. Fedup says

Idaho is another state that does not have a helmet law. Most of the accidents we hear about where they did not have a helmet on are fatalities. The only thing that I like about it is that we are not required to wear a helmet when riding ATV’s.

          38. Sue4477 says

My mistake, I thought the law was passed for everyone, but I was just remembering when it came up & was a topic of discussion for awhile. The law applies to 16-yr-olds and younger. I do agree with livefree1200cc about why the statement was not clear to me.
We have a lot of motorcycles, and riders almost always use helmets and say they’ve got to get a helmet if they want a passenger to ride. That fooled me as well.

          39. dondehoff says

Michael, check with Google, as there is far more to the law than that.

          40. dondehoff says

Sue, ask Google. It states that helmets are required in Florida for persons age 21 and older if they don’t have insurance of $10,000 or more And the law does not require helmets for mo-peds and other slow “bug smashers”

          41. Sue4477 says

You are right. That makes Michael Dennewitz WRONG. I’d researched this before I answered, but this time I went to Online Sunshine, 2014, Fl. Statute 316.211 which says exactly what you say. That explains all the helmets I see.

          42. livefree1200cc says

So why don’t you wear a helmet you moron? Just because the law says you don’t have to, doesn’t mean you can’t use one of your few remaining brain cells to strap one on.

          43. Michael Dennewitz says

While I appreciate your concern, I really DON’T appreciate your name calling. Everyone has habits. I’m sure even you might have one or two that might be disgusting. However, I won’t try to insult your intelligence. I do what my God given liberties allow me to do. And for the record, I already had one crash. It was NOT my head that suffered, but instead, my left arm and leg. Further, I had a dear friend that died WITH HER SEAT BELT ON because she couldn’t get it off after someone crashed into her….Sooo, I don’t wear one myself, I CLICK IT AND SIT ON IT! Cheers!!! Isn’t freedom of choice wonderful???

          44. livefree1200cc says

I lived through an accident myself because I didn’t have a seat belt on. If I would have had it on the roof would have c rushed me to the floor. That doesn’t change the TRUE statistic that 95% of the time though it is safer to have it on. I just don’t like being mandated at gunpoint and threatened with a $200 fine if I choose not to wear it. I was also in a motorcycle accident, 40 mph and I had a full face helmet on. My skull was crushed (literally in dozens of pieces), my upper jaw was broken away from my skull and I permanently lost my left eye. I broke and dislocated my left shoulder. I have a plastic plate in my head and my nose is entirely plastic. My shoulder recovered 80% and I walk around like it never happened. BUT – imagine if I hadn’t had that helmet on……..Don’t confuse your illusion of ‘choice’ with stupidity

          45. Sue4477 says

Glad you’re much recovered. I think what you said about helmets is why almost everyone I see or know riding a motorcycle in this highly populated county (one of the highest in the nation) wears a helmet. You may have saved or helped a life today by your post.

          46. dondehoff says

There is no other words, except gross ignorance or stupidity. If you did not have that helmet on, you would not be here to comment. As for your auto accident, you can only “surmise”, what the end result would have been if you had your seat belt on. If you were the driver there is a possibility you would have had a few seconds longer of control and the accident might have been less severe or perhaps avoided. Too many of you fail to realize that your seat belts also save the lives of “others” involved in your accident and possibly save your life in they caused the accident You acknowledged that 95% of the time, they work—I would accept that percentage any time. No one can logically deny that seat belts save the lives of thousands each year—-the math is right there in front of you. And, you do not have the right to do anything, by act or omission, that kills or maims innocent others—–and that goes for both automobiles and motorcycles.

          47. livefree1200cc says

did you have a point you were trying to make?

          48. dondehoff says

Mike. it is well documented that seat belts save the lives of thousands of people very year–the facts and math are there. True, on a rare occasion a seat belt may malfunction , but they are well designed for quick release. And I surely would not let one episode where a belt did not work., influence future use. That is like one airplane crashing, for whatever reason, and then you refusing to fly.—when it is well documented that airline travel is far safer than driving. I trust you don’t “click on it and then set on it” when you have passengers on board, as you could get into a big civil suite in addition to a criminal problem (negligent homocide). Having your seat belt on will enable you stay behind the steering wheel and maybe retain enough control of the vehicle to reduced the severity of the crash or avoid it completely. I trust you know you have a responsibility for your passengers, and to avoid an accident if possible,. If you have been forced out of your seat due to swerving or hitting a curb, you can neither steer or use the brakes. I surely hope, for the sake of your loved ones and innocent passengers and other drivers, that you reevaluate your decision. And NO, responsible freedom of choice has to include the safety of others.

          49. Retired Chief Petty Officer says

Told you, I was going to make it in Nashville.

          9. says

Sorry, no I’m not Mrs. Howard….just a 37 years retired government teacher and a 4 years community college English instructor and sometimes I can’t help myself in correcting grammar mistakes. I’m not criticizing anyone because no one has perfect grammar, but this is more evidence that we need to do a better job of actually teaching the facts and not the propaganda.

          10. dondehoff says

“trueblue…..”, conversely, not everyone has grammar and spelling skills and it is the content and understanding of the message being conveyed, that is important. Also, facts and propaganda have nothing to do with grammar and spelling—both can be and are mangled. I do object to profanity, obnoxious nicknames and gutter talk. Our Founding Fathers, the writers of the Constitution, The Federalist Papers and all of our courts, refrain from those issues and I am sure they intended to set the tone and tenor of all dialog. All too often I see very profound points being made, only to see them buried in the gutter. As “WC” said, “This is the sort of English up with which I will not put”. Ciao

Keep in mind this country used to have millions of buffalo (bison), roaming this country and I don’t recall any documentation that they even created an offense order. The dead animals, harvested just for their skins ad tongues, did create a problem.

The ONLY reason that climate changes continues to be popular is the money. People are making millions off of this scam. Like the old expression goes, follow the money. Mr. internet, Al Gore, has made millions and millions off of global warming. He is not the only one, many have made fortunes many times over by perpetuating this scam. I remember back in the 60’s or 70’s when a magazine cover was talking about how we were heading toward another ice age. The weather goes up and down on a regular basis and the cycles of warmer and colder happen about every 50 years. It is what the weather does. I think it is pretty arrogant for man to think he is powerful enough to change the climate with a can of deodorant. More proof that stupid can not be fixed.

Its rich with natural gas that could have made MR Middle Class afford to take a summer vacation. All this to take advantage and Obama pushes us as a nation poorer for knowing & electing this fake president. What he got us was you cant keep your doctor.Emergency rooms cost triple while mexicans get checked up for free.Mexicans get drivers licences while your taxes go up. ISIS can come up anytime they want from Mexico, Next is Obama wants to ship Ebola patience to the US for treatment? We have 800 of our troops in Africa were supposed to send 4000 now doesnt this sound twisted? He gives weapons to our enemies, lets them out of jail. Hey folks any of this sinking in?? It is an enormous scam to gather tax dollars to fund whatever United Nation’s dolts want regardless of the nonsense. Progressiveness require unending tax dollars and guess who pays them… and I. Many of those demanding higher taxes, higher coasts and more regulations do not pay taxes they avoid them and milk us. Professor’s, lawyers, lobbyists, politicians, media fools, billionaires like Soros, buffett, Gore, Clinton, Steyer, Bloomberg et al want to see us waste money not r=themselves they are far too bust trying to fix elections and remove guns from legal citizens so only the government has guns citizens must depend on the honor of those in power not to kill them….how did that work for Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Chavez, Castro, Amin, Pol Pot. America depends on honest citizens to work properly these elites want to destroy America socially, culturally and economically and they are far along the path. Vote them out on Nov. 4 and let’s change America into an economic powerhouse it is there all it takes is American willpower and the removal of anyone who has been in government for more than 4 years.

Next we will be told that the weather will have warm and cool periods and be called weather flux . They might even claim that summers will be hot and winter cold . What greedy morons .

    1. Tom Brooks says

I disagree, slightly. The earth has gone through an untold number of warming/cooling cycles. Currently, we are in a warming cycle. It began over 20,000 years ago and ended the last “ice age”.
And, believe it or not, there was no EXXon Mobile, Standard Oil, U.S. Steel or any other carbon dioxide spewing industry. Hell, there was not a even Ted Kennedy spewing his scotch and CO2 into the atmosphere. It is a naturally occurring cycle. When the great thaw started, ice on the North American Continent was over a mile thick. But there I go again, confusing the issue with facts.

  12. Sylvester Jones says

He’s dead on, no such thing as climate change just thieving government picking our pockets.

  13. Hal Flagel says

The term “climate Change” relates to Al Gore (Who has one of the largest homes in the country using meg-o-watts of energy and stands to make a fortune from Climate Change) All one has to do to probe Climate Change is to study Core samples (Many have been taken and stored) from the earth and also study the 11 year Sun cycle. That folks tell the whole story. Anyone disputing this is just to make money at our expense.

    1. Mark Lahti says

It is always that way. If you see any kind of a controversy just follow the money. It’s always about the money. And in case anybody has to jump in with the power, control, and world order stuff; that all comes from having the money. Money is the root of all that evil. It sounds old fashion and it sounds very simplistic. But face it, human beings don’t change their basic base moral values. It’s all about the money.

Back in grade school, my 3rd grade Geography textbook talked about the Ice Age. It contained a passage that I can still see. It said, “The ice will come again.” It went on to calm our 3rd grade fears with an assurance that it wouldn’t be back for about 10,000 years. Call it “Climate Change,” or “Global Warming,” it’s easy to see that the issue is bogus. Why? Because any scientist who is affiliated with a politician has an agenda. He needs the grant money. The politician needs an issue. So, they cook one up and call it a crisis. Scare enough people, and the money will flow.

How many ice ages has there been? If the earth did not go through warming cycles we would still be buried in 100 mile thick covering of ice.

  34. WishIlivedinTexas says

Considering that the NOAA, and NASA have been saying the same thing for years, and that the group in the UK that started that junk science have all been discredited, I would say that all that is left is political expediency to fool the uneducated ‘Twitter’ fanatics into believing they should never go anywhere, or doing anything that ‘May hurt the Environment’.

(This will bring the dogs out. They will bark and howl and offer not a word of logical rebuttal, because they don’t know how to marshal facts and use reason rather than screaming. Don’t worry you Matt Damon/ Miley Cyrus clones, you will most likely win, in which case I really will be wishing for climate change in the form of an asteroid the size of Mars to take us all out and anyway, this was written by a conservative for conservative Don’t worry though, you and your fellow libs are 28 points ahead in the 4th quarter and we have some weak quarterbacks our there. BUT, may I tweak your tale with a bit of ghastly political incorrectness?–it ain’t over till the fat lady sings–to whomever that may offend, may I say in my defense? I DON’T CARE!!)

Misses the key point. He’s 100% on about the science, but the fascistic left needs a series of crises one after another, to stoke fear, promote unity, demonize and silence any opposing views, and, most of all, to tighten the coils of government control over every aspect of our lives. Remember Hillary’s “Never let a serious crisis go to waste”? quoting Rahm Emmanuel, (who stole it from Churchill, who was not always the saint he is made out to be, but no fascist). Make no mistake about it, this nation is being hijacked by a cabal of progressives, who want complete control of our lives. Don’t think so? Read Saul Alinsky’s “12 rules for radicals,” (Google it, I’ll wait) and tell me if they are not being used as written to systematically dismantle our nation. Then buy and read “Liberal Fascism” by Jonah Goldberg and tell me if his book is not a political prophecy about what is happening here, now. Remember that Hitler “penned his Mein Kampf years before he came to power, but he went and did exactly what he put on paper in 1926! The liberal fascists, the so-called “progressives” ARE DOING THE SAME THING ALINSKY AND HIS ILK wrote about and talked about for YEARS. ISIS can only rape, kill and mutilate those they get their hands on, but our fascist ISIS state can gang-rape and sodomize our Constitution.our form of form of government, and our way of life, and their plot is WELL ALONG! Give up on using climate change as a weapon, facts be damned?–why should they, when it was a big factor in getting the president’s nose in under the under tent in the first place? Oh, God help us all (and He will), it was foreseeable and preventable. So you see, it’s not that they CAN’T be convinced; it is that THEY DON’T WANT to be convinced! They are not stupid, they are something far worse: THEY THINK THEY–AND THEY ALONE– KNOW WHAT’S RIGHT for us and they are HELL-BENT on making you into docile servants of the state–and you thought “FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORM AMERICA” was just a political slogan. Where I come from, it is called-EVIL, (perhaps well-intentioned zealotry, but no less–dare I say it?–SINFUL FOR THAT), all the more insidious because the methodology is to use and discard facts as needed, making truth a tool rather than a transcendent reality, life to be used or discarded according to the latest bromides about compassion, money to be used or discarded, borders to be ignored–need I continue? but don’t worry–as Goldberg illustrates on the cover of his book, it is evil with a smiley face :)–pay no attention to that close-cropped moustache.

I have asked for years about a certain part of climate change. The present site of the Ohio River separating Kentucky with the states of Ohio,Indiana,Illinois was once the Southern edge of ice . The ice contracted thousands of miles North to the present location . There was no evidence of meteors causing the ice retreat and the only man caused pollution was camp fires by the Stone Age men .

Technologies that leverage the existing petrol-based infrastructure without resulting in a net increase of carbon solve the problem without needing to increase taxes or enforce emissions.

They will arrive, sooner or later, and likely at parity if subsidies are redirected toward them rather than fossil fuels.

Oil is being supported by the Government? How? All I am aware of is that the Government taxes the crap out of oil and creates laws that restrict their movements. .

          4. vardarac says

Your post has prompted me to do some digging around. Different sources say different things about the treatment oil companies receive: Conservative sources (like Daily Caller) say that the taxes paid (what type and to whom are unspecified) are well above the nominal federal corporate tax rate, while left-leaning sources (like Mother Jones and Think Progress) say that they are well below the nominal federal tax rate, that the taxes paid are on the state level or are foreign taxes and that oil companies pay substantially reduced income tax (part of this from what I’ve learned is because state corporate taxes can be subtracted from federal corporate taxes).

This is actually a very muddied water. I’ll continue to research this subject.

          5. MAHB001 says

Thank you, I am very interested in what you come up with.
I think Politicians muddy up these waters intentionally. Just look at taxes in general. Do you really know what you are going to pay? Do you really understand all the loopholes and ways to hide your money? Why is it that they always divide off a small group of people, vilify them, and then get the majority to approve a tax on that minority? Alcoholics and smokers come to mine, most recently the rich.
In short, the majority will never approve of another tax on themselves, our Government needs more money to satiate their spending “desires.” So they must vilify a small group of people to raise taxes.
            Does that make any sense?

  57. dondehoff says

Weather, weather everywhere, and few, if any, fully understand it! It is a documented fact that most of the glaciers in our very own “Glacier National Park”, have disappeared, and in Colorado, the old St. Mary’s Glacier, is now known as and “ice field”. Also, as we debate, several countries in the vicinity of the Himalayan Mountains are assembling armies to protect their “share” of the water r from the disappearing glaciers in the mountains. This involves India, Pakistan, China, Tibet, and many other countries “downstream”, from the receding glaciers and diminished river waters. Those glaciers and rivers provide the very means of survival for some of those countries. That issue is so serious, it might well be the site for the beginning of WW-III. There is also a significant reduction in the ice fields in areas close to the North Pole. The world-wide recession of glaciers and ice fields, clearly indicate either warming in their area or a significant change in precipitation, perhaps a combination of the two. Now, whether it is climate change, pollution or just the increase in demand for potable water, the problem is occurring and we must try to ameliorate it. Note that these glaciers have been receding for eons and is not a “new” event. The ice fields in the vicinity of the Poles, appear to fluctuate over the years and may or may not be related to the glacier problems.

    1. vardarac says

“That issue is so serious, it might well be the site for the beginning of WW-III.”

I doubt it. Solar desal tech is advancing to the point where if mass manufacture comes about, we can live off of ocean water with little in the way of emissions.

      1. dondehoff says

“Vardarac”, you are not looking at the far “bigger picture”. All water from the sea, has be , moved “uphill” thousands of feet, and that takes desalination plants, pumping stations, thousands of miles of pipelines, hundreds of tunnels, enormous amounts of energy and the power sources and people to run them. And, no WW-III?—-as we speak those hundreds of thousands of troops from several countries are already “there” to make sure each country gets what they consider to be their “fair share”. There is already a severe river water shortage in the most areas serviced by the glaciers in the Himalayan Mountains. And, the “water war” could start this coming year—the desalination plants, pumping stations, pipelines and tunnels could take 20 or more years to complete. As an additional problem, what will “they” (we?) do with all of the salt and other debris from the plants?—-not in my backyard! Salt dumped on the ground or in pits, eventually contaminate underground fresh water supplies. And, all of those countries already have a serious shortage of electricity—a significant part of India still uses “lamp oils” for night lighting. Conversely, Canada and Russia are blessed with enormous amounts of fresh water that “dumps” into the Northern seas, which could be diverted for their use and sale to the other countries. That diverted water could make Canada and Russia the leading wheat growers (bread baskets) of the world,

Thank God for John Campbell. The facts of “global warming” are very simple:

CO2 is a “trace gas” in air, insignificant by definition. It absorbs 1/7th as much IR, heat energy, from sunlight as water vapor which has 188 times as many molecules capturing 1200 times as much heat making 99.9% of all “global warming.” CO2 does only 0.1% of it. For this we should destroy our economy?

The Medieval Warming from 800 AD to 1300 AD Micheal Mann erased to make his “hockey stick” was several degrees warmer than anything “global warmers” fear. It was the longest time, 500 years, of peace with great abundance for all.

Vostock Ice Core data analysis show CO2 increases follow temperature increases by 800 years 19 times in 450,000 years. That means temperature change is cause and CO2 change effect; not the other way around. This alone refutes the anthropogenic global warming concept.

Methane is called “a greenhouse gas 20 to 500 times more potent than CO2,” depending on who is raving, but it is not per the on-line absorption chart at the American Meteorological Society. It has an absorption profile very similar to nitrogen which is classified “transparent” to IR, heat waves and is only present to 18 ppm. “Green vegans” blame cow flatulence for global warming in their war against eating meat.

Carbon combustion generates 80% of our energy. Control and taxing of carbon would give the elected ruling class more power and money than anything since the Magna Carta of 1215 AD.

Most scientists and science educators work for tax supported institutions. They are eager to help government raise more money for them and they love being seen as “saving the planet.”

Google “Two Minute Conservative,” and you will be applauded when you speak truth at your next dinner party, barbecue or church picnic.

    1. Icarus62 says

It’s a fact that the Earth’s greenhouse effect is sustained by the well-mixed non-condensing greenhouse gases of which CO₂ provides 80% of the forcing, with CH₄, N₂O, CFCs etc. all adding up to the remaining 20%.

“Ample physical evidence shows that carbon dioxide (CO2) is the single most important climate-relevant greenhouse gas in Earth’s atmosphere.”

      Lacis, A.A, G.A. Schmidt, D. Rind, and R.A. Ruedy, 2010: Atmospheric CO2: Principal control knob governing Earth’s temperature. Science, 330, 356-359, doi:10.1126/science.1190653.

      1. adrianvance says

“Forcing” is utter nonsense, pre-Wohler (1832) science calling for CO2 molecules to control water vapor, the driver in all energy in air as it is the only good IR absorber.

There is no “greenhouse effect” in the atmosphere. A greenhouse has a solid, clear cover that can trap heat. Nothing in the atmosphere can do that as gas molecules cannot form a reflective surface. The molecules have to be in contact, as in liquids or solids like water and glass. It is amazing that so many physical science trained people let this nonsense become part of the literature when they should know better. It is all a big, but one for money and power, taxes and regulations, the machinery of socialism.

        1. Icarus62 says

Wow… you’re even more of a crackpot than I thought. We’ve known about the existence of the greenhouse effect for 200 years.

          1. adrianvance says

I do not know who invented the term “greenhouse” for the atmosphere, but it is everything but a greenhouse as that works by having a transparent glass enclosure that literally traps heat energy as the only way out is a fairly narrow path for re-emitted quanta. There is no such overhanging layer in the atmosphere as gases cannot form surfaces; their molecules are not in contact as they are in liquids and solids. It is just that simple.

          2. Icarus62 says

Good grief… you’re seriously quibbling about the greenhouse effect because the Earth’s atmosphere isn’t an actual greenhouse??

The sheer desperation of the global warming denial scammers can still have me shaking my head in wonderment at times.

          3. adrianvance says

Do you have difficulty with the fact that the atmosphere is not a “greenhouse” and nothing in it functions in the manner of a greenhouse? The term is not only a basic error, it is an inside joke, i.e. “They’ll buy anything.”

          4. Icarus62 says

Just admit that quibbling over the word ‘greenhouse’ is desperately lame. You can’t dispute the physics so you’re reduced to whining about the name. It’s comical!

          5. adrianvance says

which has 188 times as many molecules capturing 1200 times as much heat
making 99.9% of all ‘global warming.'”

However, water vapor’s concentration is limited by condensation caused by temperature drops. Decrease the frequency or magnitude of these drops (via something seemingly as insignificant as a rise in CO2, which is not limited in concentration and does not condense) and you get a positive feedback, according to the ACS.

(I can’t comment on the Medieval Warming period; I’m just beginning to learn about pro/anti climate change)

“Vostock Ice Core data analysis show CO2 increases follow temperature increases by 800 years 19 times in 450,000 years. That means temperature change is cause and CO2 change effect”

This is not necessarily true, at least from a purely logical standpoint. Temperature increase could cause CO2 release, but so too could CO2 exacerbate whatever caused the initial warming. It is possible for temperature change to cause CO2 release and vice-versa.

“Control and taxing of carbon would give the elected ruling class more
power and money than anything since the Magna Carta of 1215 AD.”

I personally prefer technology over policy. Why not push for the development of atmospheric-algae based fuels instead of fossil fuels? You can shut the green lobby up and still burn as much fuel as you like.

Like it or not, fossil fuels WILL run out. Sustainable is the way to go if we’re talking about humanity’s future.

      1. adrianvance says

Sorry, but the atmosphere carries 1% to 4% water vapor and I use 3% as a compromise even though 4% would probably be more appropriate as 71% of the planet is covered by water. Condensation comes with temperature change, but has no effect when it is stable.

Temperature change is clearly the driver of CO2 if you consider changes in the biome and especially when marine phytoplankton is included. This is very clear and stand-alone proof CO2 is not the driver “global warming” people claim.

Algae based fuels are much more expensive than petroleum fuels. I know as I have a patent for the production of one, 7,855,061. Every oil field was once a sea bed. Is every sea bed an oil field? I think so.

See “The Carbon Question,” by George Woodward, Scientific American, January 1978 where he summarizes all of the carbon known to have been in the atmosphere in geologic antiquity and comes to the conclusion several million gigatons are missing. He does not say where they are, but it is obvious they are most likely in deep sea sediments as petroleum where we find it in every ancient sea bed. If you to the math it should be clear it is in the sea beds and if petroleum we have more than we can ever burn in 1,000 years. We know we have 900 years of continental hydrocarbons, much as coal, but convertible to liquid fuels.

See my new book, “Vapor Tiger” on Amazon and only $2.99 in the Kindle edition.

I don’t dispute that temperature drives CO2. Could you expand on how this would rule out the idea that CO2 also influences temperature?

You might be right on the issue of oil availability. I will have to do more research.

Yes, algae fuels are more expensive than petrol and likely will be for a while. Technological advances will continue to bring down the price, as I’m sure you know.

Coleman is a fraud or an idiot. Either way he can be safely ignored. Let’s see what the real experts say:

“It is clear from extensive scientific evidence that the dominant cause of the rapid change in climate of the past half century is human-induced increases in the amount of atmospheric greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbons, methane, and nitrous oxide. The most important of these over the long term is CO2, whose concentration in the atmosphere is rising principally as a result of fossil-fuel combustion and deforestation.”

    – American Meteorological Society

“There is no standstill in global warming. The warming of our oceans has accelerated, and at lower depths. More than 90 percent of the excess energy trapped by greenhouse gases is stored in the oceans. Levels of these greenhouse gases are at a record, meaning that our atmosphere and oceans will continue to warm for centuries to come. The laws of physics are non-negotiable”

    – World Meteorological Organisation.

“The scientific understanding of climate change is now sufficiently clear to justify taking steps to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.”
