GOP’s Chaffetz: Choose Between Health Insurance or New iPhone

House Republicans unveiled their bill to repeal and replace Obamacare on Monday, drawing a mixture of cheers and jeers from conservatives who weren’t sure what to expect. While the plan makes noticeable cuts to current federal health insurance expenditures, some critics on the right are disappointed by what Republicans have decided to keep. Nevertheless, the overwhelming volume of criticism comes from the Democrats, who say that millions of low-income Americans will lose their coverage if the bill is passed into law.

In a Tuesday morning interview with CNN, House Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) was less than swayed by this argument. The Republican promise, he said, was to provide access to health insurance for all Americans. It was not, however, the federal government’s job to make sure every individual opted for coverage.

“You know what, Americans have choices. And they’ve got to make a choice,” said Chaffetz. “And so maybe, rather than getting that new iPhone that they just love and they want to spend hundreds of dollars on, maybe they should invest in their own healthcare.”

Liberals will have a field day with that seemingly-callous remark, but this is the kind of messaging that Republicans need to embrace. For too many months, the GOP has been playing defense on Obamacare, carelessly buying into every narrative the media invents. It’s time for that to end. You can’t repeal and replace the ACA without laying out some hard truths, and Chaffetz did a wonderful job hitting the sweet spot.

Coincidentally, HUD Secretary Ben Carson waded into controversy this week when he called slaves “immigrants,” which allowed the media to remind us of that time Carson compared the Affordable Care Act to slavery. And while we understand why people get uptight about loose references to that dark period, he had a point. You can spend all of your time focused on what Obamacare has accomplished, but the fundamental fact is that it encroached on our liberty. What statistic could possibly justify that?

Will some Americans “lose” their health insurance due to this law? Yes, but many of them never wanted it in the first place. Others may be forced to take a close look at their spending habits and make a choice between luxuries and wise purchases. And it’s up to them to decide where to draw that line. That’s the beauty of freedom: You get to decide for yourself. And yes, bad decisions can lead to bad consequences, but guess what? You can let the government make all your decisions for you and it won’t save you from those. Obamacare offered Americans the illusion of security in exchange for a reduction in freedom.

Affordable? Quite the contrary.

  1. Justin Seine says

Can a lot of folks claim that under Obamacare they got coverage that they otherwise (in the absence of generous taxpayer funded subsidies) could not afford? YES! Can they also claim that they now have access to affordable healthcare? Not necessarily because of obscene co-pays and deductibles. If you are living hand to mouth, a $4000 deductible puts visits to the doctor out of reach. Healthcare under the ACA was nothing but an illusion for many – a fact that the Democrats conveniently leave out!

        1. Nancy Swartz says

NO, the LIE was that “MORE people could be covered, for LESS money, with NO LOSS in Quality of CARE”! Then there were BHO’S LIES! #1, If YOU like your doctor, YOU may NOT get to keep your MD. #2, IF You like your healthcare plan, about 10 MILLION did NOT get to KEEP that plan. #3, EVERY family will SAVE $2500 in premiums- NOT! I personally know of NO ONE who got that $2500. Of course, ALL my family, friends, neighbors WORK for a living, SO WE aren’t “special enough” for BHO & HIS Cronies to treat with respect! (Personally, when someone LIES repeatedly to ME, I get real insulted, & TICKED OFF!) AS a retired RN, who has followed “socialized medicine issue” for over 40 YEARS, ALL of those “wonderful” socialized medicine programs that the LEFT raves about, Practice in some form or another, RATIONING! Either Long waits to see MD, get surgery, get treatment, age limits on availability of treatment/surgery, etc.

    2. Connie Alsip says

Amen, brother. And to top it off, the Obama regime hid the 27 new taxes on Americans to spport the ACA, which is nothing less than BHO using the Alinsky Rules for Radicals to defeat the USA. Obama should be arrested for treason, My bucket list has his execution for his many treasons right on the top!

We’ve all fallen into that category AKLady. Especially the Trumpeteers. They fight, but for what? they know not. Who said, “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

          1. Mary Thoeni says

        2. Nancy Swartz says

NOT if she did NOT vote for Obama or his MINIONS! ACA was Written & Passed SOLELY by DEMOCRATS! BHO famously said, “Elections have consequences.” and NO INPUT from GOP was welcome! ANY GOP who came over to “his side” would “get to sit in back”. POST RACIAL President MY A$$!

    3. Gary Pakes says

Let’s hope Trump convinces the GOP that their currently proposed healthcare plan is unacceptable because it would not satisfy what Trump promised America–to provide less expensive, better healthcare. After all, the GOP plan would make healthcare even more expensive and unattainable, throwing millions of people who were able to get healthcare under the ACA into the uninsured category. Tax credits are meaningless to middle-class Americans who don’t make enough salary-wise. Trump must convince the GOP that their current plan is simply a death sentence that only serves to make the richest Americans who can afford healthcare just get much, much richer.

      1. AKLady says

The United States is the only modern, industrialized county that allows people to die — simply because they cannot afford to buy medical care.

      2. Jimmy King says

HAHAHAHA Yes Trump is going to fight the GOP because this isn’t what he promised America I guess that means he isn’t going to biuld the wall until Mexico pays for it, right? Or he’s going to ban all Muslims regardless of what the constitution says, or he’s going to drain the swamp like he promised

He’s standing behind Trumpcare, even though he promised a better, cheaper, with more people insured plan. You still believing the bag of empty promises he sold you?

I have also lived for a long time under both Communist and Fascist dictatorships with the cult of personality…I have seem all this before…

Lots of Trump supporters have ignored his well documented life and somehow still think he is their champion and even as MORE evidences will continue to pile against that belief….they will still trust him and will find other scapegoats to blame for his failures (and he is very good at shifting blame with the help of his media and web buddies).
All the wounds and opposition he is getting are self inflicted and I can honestly can not wait for him to go away and stop damaging this country

      3. CLRose says

It seems too many in GOP leadership are about as corrupt as the Democrats.

    4. supergun says

This kind of bull chit makes you wonder if most of the politicians know what in the hell we have to put up with out here. Great comment.

    5. AKLady says

Oh, really. Back in the 1980s and 90s, the CHAMPUS/TRICARE deductible was $2,000.

    6. Germansmith says

Let me give you the FACTS from the perspective of a health insurance broker, which I am

Anybody between 100-300% of the FPL can get access to a Silver Plan and due to their income they may pay a little more in premium than buying a bronze but they would have a minimum deductible, reduced max out of pocket and small co-payments for PCP/Specialist and emergency room visit
Healthcare and health insurance is difficult. If idiotic people opted for the cheapest bronze plan because they were cheap or uninformed or just angry because they were forced to buy, is no fault of Obamacare….next time they should consult a broker (it cost them NOTHING)
As we have seen by our choice of President, is never good to overestimate the intelligence of Americans

I would also suggest Congresspeople to consult brokers or consultants not directly working for the insurers…because is apparent our Representatives also do not know what they are doing

  4. Conservative says

We should provide for the truly poor but we have, unfortunately, become an entitlement Nation.
Remember Alinsky and his rules for radicals and “How to Control a Social State” Cloward Piven…..

Rule One: Control HEALTH CARE and you control the people.
Rule Two: Increase the poverty level as high as possible; poor people are easier to control and will not fight back.

    1. Mathew Molk says

Just why do we have to provide ANYTHING to the truly poor? If you want to voluntarily give money to a charity that helps people that are in deep trouble (Aan most of us do) that’s one thing, but digging into an American worker’s pocket without his consent is quite another matter. In fact I call that theft.

    2. pics fixer says

Let’s get something straight; nobody is “entitled” to anything as a gift. We should get what we paid for and when in need, be able to get a helping hand from the society we are a member of. All my working life I have paid into SS and Medicare and have every right to get those things when my turn comes. THOSE THINGS ARE NOT FREEBEE ENTITLEMENTS!!! It make me sick every time anyone refers to SS and Medicare as some sort of a gift from my generous and benevolent government. Those things are paid for my me as a form of insurance when I retire and I worked damn hard for them. Who the hell is anyone to talk of those things as if they were some free handout that I didn’t pay into to have.

The term “entitlement” should not be connected to SS and Medicare. Every working person is paying into it all their working lives including you. Think of those things as matured insurance that becomes available at age 65.

      1. David Nichols says

Absolutely right–The employer deducts 6.5% from your wages, matches it with another 6.5% and sends it off to the Federal Government in your name…
SS retirement income is EARNED throughout your working life and PAID when you retire, assuming you are old enough at that point to draw it…

  5. Jmanjo says

Just like the liberals making a case for low income people that probably cannot use the insurance anyway due to the terrible coverage they get for insurance that we have to subsidize the hell out of for them to get. They were all losers in the ACA. New plan is to provide affordable policies that do cover needed care and don’t have such high deductibles. The Democrats are practically retarded in the way they view this. The truth is they will start losing their sugar daddy of a healthcare law that gave free coverage (at our expense) to a few that really couldn’t care less if they had it because the government made them take it or get fined. Rather have two portions of Trumpcare before Obamacare.

    1. David Hays says

But fewer low income people will be covered. Without providing health care coverage to all, the US has a life expectancy tied with Croatia. We’re in a race to the bottom.

      1. Valerie A Clark says

        1. Mathew Molk says

Says who? You ever been out in the real world? .

Ever crawl into the house shaped like a question mark because you can’t straighten up after you got out of your truck? You stop at the bar after work and the money in your shirt pocket looks like you got it out of a bucket of water but it;s actually soaked with your sweat? Ever had to stand over a heater to get your rubber buckle boots off because the buckles are frozen closed?

And after that then go to the grocery store and see a pulk with gold chains and a gold grill in his mouth pay for wine and t-bone with food stamps and then get into a brand Yukon with 10 grand worth of custom 26″ wheels and tires on it?

Baloney, huh. Come out here where the wolves eat the sheep and see what it takes to get a baloney sandwich out here. Just be advised. You may not make it back to your safe zone, snowflake. It gets to be a jungle out here a lot of the time

      2. 83ragtop50 says

Your argument is lame. I would rather die free at 30 than to live to be 100 in bondage to the government. Sort of the same attitude that led to the birthing of the USA.

      3. chad says

What about the bums who refuse to work and just want to live off the rest of us? Has to be millions of them.
It shouldn’t be tax payers responsibility to give them free medicaid while millions work low wages jobs without insurance or pay huge deductibles.
Time for change, work or prove you can’t if you want free health insurance AND food stamps.

        1. Jmanjo says

This is exactly what I was referring to.. The liberals bark about “maybe 20 million won’t have coverage”. But the other 350 million will have better coverage because they won’t be paying for those 20 that don’t earn or want it Obamacare is a flop and it cheated our tax dollars for jillions so the Dems could steal or blow it for themselves. That’s what they are crying over! Time to screw them back! The obvious things need to be addressed but us paying for lousy healthcare coverage for low income is dumb! They can’t use it anyway due to high deductibles! Pelosi is a pig!

          1. chad says

Yeah our deductible was going to be around 5000 and rate was about 2 weeks of my pay at that time!
I know people that had higher income than myself, without kids that got free insurance! No cost ER visits, no cost doctors visits, etc (Medicaid), yet with 2 kids we were going to pay outrageouse fee for sh*tty coverage!
I’m all for helping those who really need it but bums, drug dealers, illegals and refugees should not have free medicaid.

          2. Jmanjo says

And don’t forget to mention that most of people they are whining about only have the coverage because if they don’t the damn IRS will come beating on them! Another Obama trademark! A ton of them did not want the coverage…all Democrat smokescreen for stealing!

          3. chad says

Your right, some of the young guys I work with told me just that, don’t want health care, only took it because it was a law.

      4. Jim says

Most low income people are already covered on Medicaid so your argument doesn’t pass the litmus test.

        1. David Hays says

The bill cuts Medicaid significantly dropping many of those from the rolls. Many are still not insured and more will be without.

          1. Roger says

          2. Jared Andrew Shoemaker Jr says

Need some new insults. I’d suggest returning to Master Control

          3. Jim says

How do you know what’s in this bill when it is still is being hashed out in various congressional committees? You must have some sort of “Chrystal Ball” or something! You need to go check out one of these free healthcare clinics where doctors, nurses, medical technicians, opticians, dental technicians, etc., all volunteer to give people who are not insured, or underinsured basic medical care. Just as many people attend these clinics now, in spite of the ACA. The attendance numbers prove this! If I had just fallen off of the turnip truck today, I might be tempted to believe you, but I don’t.

          4. Harold says

Jim did you see the CBO response to the bill? The cut in Medicare now and more in the future? And a 64 year old man making $26,000 would pay over half of that for health insurance. What kind of plan is that?

      5. Phil says

The point of the article was that if this segment of our society would quit being irresponsible with their spending, they could at least help with the cost of their coverage. Why should we pay for people that are not willing to spend what money they do have on the necessities that the rest of us have to pay for. The Apostle Paul stated that if a man is not willing to work, he should not eat (2 Thes. 3:10). Nuff said. With all the infrastructure upgrades that will soon be going on, the government should give all these welfare recipients a job and if they don’t take it or if they get terminated due to their own actions, they should not be allowed to collect public assistance. Maybe this would break this continuing generational chain and bring their children out of this poverty treadmill.

P.S. The bible challenges us to care for the elderly and the poor
but not individuals who are able to work and are not willing.
To give these freeloaders an opportunity to off the gravy train
        is an act of love.

        1. Mathew Molk says

I thought that was Paul quoting Christ – but I’m no bible thumper so take that with a grain.

And I’m 70 and supposedly retired,,,,,and just got in from the shop where I welded up a landscaper’s cracked mower deck. (my back is killing me too.) I started a part time business to make money to pay my property tax, BTW. You have to be a lot older then me and in a lot worse shape before you are too old to work.

      6. Mathew Molk says

Man have they ever hot you brainwashed…..You do NOT need to go to the doctor or ER every time you hick-up.

And life expectancy is up, sure,,,,but what about the quality of life? How many people now spend the last 10 years of their life in a wheel chair? Why are there so many people with Alzheimer? In days gone by, sure they would have died 10 or even 20 years sooner, but they would have died like human beings, not like partially animated vegetables or with the lights on and nobody home.

Here is the fact. Medicine had prolonged life long after you usefulness to your self or anybody else has ended.

Your daughter qualifies for Medicaid and Medicare.
She also qualifies for SSDI and Adult Pubic Assistance,

He children also qualify Public Assistance and Medicaid.

We the people pay for your daughter’s food, clothing, shelter and medical care, as well as that of her children.

          2. glenn398 says

How about the vast amount of people that live off the government dole for their total life, justify why they get all the benefits they do.

          3. AKLady says

There has been a six-year, lifetime limit on federal cash assistance since Clinton was in office. The only exceptions are disability and age. Why do you repeat lies?

          4. glenn398 says

Didn’t lie as that is why I say government dole as there is 98 programs for the so called poor. Yes welfare is as I remember 5 years but there are so many other programs it doesn’t make much difference. Why do you think there is so many help wanted signs everywhere, because being on the government dole pays a lot better then working.

          5. AKLady says

You are so ignorant, and so determined to hate.
Those “help wanted” positions you brag about are part-time jobs designed for students and retired people.

      3. glenn398 says

Paula like me at 76 have watched this country decline from the greatness it once was.

    4. AKLady says

      Those are Lifeline phones.
The program was developed under Saint Reagan.
You see, many of America’s disabled veterans are homeless.
Those telephone permit poor people to summon emergency services.
Oh, and you only pay for Lifeline if you have telephone service.
It is not paid for through the federal tax system.
So we have more evidence of your childish name calling and ignorance.

      1. lesa k dixon says

Perhaps you should do a bit of research yourself on “lifeline phones”…ALL cell phones are lifeline phones. An FCC fee on every cell phone allows 911/emergency calls on ANY cell phone, even unactivated phones. Go dig up one of your old phones and dial 911. Ask for a reality check!

        1. AKLady says

News Flash: I do not own a cell phone.
New Flash: I am not homeless.
New Flash: My telephone does not work if service is disconnected.+
Why do you hate the poor, disabled and elderly?

        2. AKLady says

Apparently, the FCC has a broader definition than you do.

        3. AKLady says

“Lifeline” is a service, not a telephone.

        4. glenn398 says

You do know that facts with aklady are something she can’t absorb don’t you?

          1. lesa k dixon says

LOL, yep…I get that impression. Lucidity is not something libtards are blessed with. They tend to function in a disassociation with reality. Most find it maddening when presented with inarguable truths. I’ve found that in cases like her it’s best to refuse to engage. They inevitably self destruct. Thanks for the back up!

      2. Pauline says

AKLady, you are so totally wrong. My son Inlaw inquired if my daughter could get some assistant, he was denied twice inspied having hired an attorney. Social Security’s answer was that ” CANCER “was not a “QUALIFIED” DESIESE! SHe has TERMINAL CANCER and only a few month to live! OH! But they will give her child some assistance if the Mother should pass away!!!
        What an INSULT!
You the PEOPLE have not paid a dime for my daughters FOOD, SHELTER, MEDICAL CARE! or CLOTHING, nor have you the PEOPLE paid a dime for her child!!!

      3. glenn398 says

No it wasn’t developed under Reagan.

        1. AKLady says

Do you ever bother to look anything up?
“Lifeline” program began in 1985. It is part of the Universal Service Fund.
          Reagan was President in 1985.

          1. glenn398 says

The democrats pushed this thru as they controlled both houses and also pushed thru the tax credit for those that didn’t even pay any taxes. Reagan said these people don’t pay taxes so why should they get tax credits. The democrats said we don’t care if you don’t go along we wouldn’t pass anything you want.

          2. AKLady says

Lifeline is not paid for by income taxes.
Lifeline is paid for by telephone users.
Lifeline was designed to permit homeless, mentally ill veterans to success their benefits and services. Lifeline is their “address”.
Disabled veterans pay taxes, just as do every impoverished person.
In fact, if you were not math deficient, you would realize that the poor pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than do the rich.

          3. glenn398 says

In your dreams as a fee on your telephone bill was just another name for a tax and amounts to the same thing. Most of the phone users were in the ghetto and it even showed on T.V. where this guy had 8 I phones selling them on the street corner. The system had no oversight as there was suppose to be one supported system per household and that was never enforced so a lot of households had several people in the same household enjoying the system. If it had been only for vets. they would had only given it out to them.

          4. AKLady says

User fees imposed by private corporations are now taxes.
Interesting look at the world you have,
yet you claim to be right-wing and conservative.
That you repeat garbage and lies says so much about you, and the right-wing.
Do you actually believe everything you see on TV, or is only that which supports your hate a bigotry?

  9. barnjoer says

He is exactly right, most of the dumb people would pick the IPhone!!!

    1. Beeotchstewie the deplorable says

      But not the white one!

      1. David Nichols says

        Right..! Black Phones Matter.

    2. pics fixer says

Hay there, you get my family healthcare insurance for the cost of an iPhone and I’ll take that deal. It’s cost me over (I don’t want to give you an exact number) $10,000+ a year for so, so insurance. For about $700, I’m in.

      1. Mathew Molk says

        Ain’t it the dien’ truth.

  10. barnjoer says

They get affordable health care & the TAX PAYER gets F¥£#ed with A deductible that we can’t afford!

    1. AKLady says

I wish I had a $1.00 for every time I’ve heard that lie told.

  11. SouthernPatriot says

I-Phones, expensive new Air Jordans, new wheels/rims, 24K gold chains, and anything else that is the fad is preferred over health care. Those that make those choices, will go to the emergency room for a minor cut or cold, just as they did before. Bad choices did not start yesterday, but are often taught in the generational welfare family.

Though I purchase medical/health insurance for my family and most of the cost for my employees, once Obamacare came it raised my privately paid insurance premiums and co-pays as well as deductibles. I was only able to reduce a small amount of those increases by joining a group plan from a business association. When Obamacare came on the scene not only did it raise participants costs, but also the costs for those who did not even participate in Obama’s train wreck.

    1. AKLady says

      Congress makes the laws.
      You elect Congress.

  12. Austinniceguy says

I see people at the grocery store all the time who pay with their welfare cards then proceed to the parking lot to load their purchases into their new Chryslers and Cadillacs while complaining that they aren’t able to make ends meet. These are the same welfare leeches who live in section 8 housing while wearing Air Jordan’s and sporting 14k gold grills on their teeth. Something needs to be done to even the playing field. I suggest a time limit on all welfare and subsidies.

    1. jimmy midnight says

      Racist memes–zero cred.

      1. Jerry C says

Racist? That’s all you libs know how to do is play the race card-you’ve worn that one out LONG ago. It’s REALITY if you have your eyes open, which you obviously don’t.

        1. jimmy midnight says

President Reagan was likely the first to popularize the idea that people who use food stamps all drive new Cadillacs and Chryslers, because they’re so adept at taking advantage of good hardworking Americans.

The (understood, particularly by U) ethnicities of the good vs. the Cadillac-driving takers R 2 obvious to need explicit naming.

          1. Mathew Molk says

Where did you get that bullshit?

You got to be kidding me.

          2. Law.Abider says

Oh, kwitcherbitchin! Go to You Tube. There’s a black guy there called TjSotomayor. ALL this guy does is call out black b****es who are HORRIBLE caretakers of their children and who abuse the system. He complains that they all use their money for weaves and manicures while their children are starving, then later robbing people because their mothers don’t teach them right from wrong. He is absolutely right!

          3. AKLady says

And you are ignorant enough to believe every word the lying bigot posts.

          4. AKLady says

Actually, ignorant one, in the Deep South, the prized Cadillac is owned by an entire neighborhood. They get together, pay cash and share the vehicle.

        2. AKLady says

Your selfishness and ignorance was worn out a ling time ago.
You also post claiming to be a Christian. Ha, ha, ha …

          1. Jerry C says

What’s wrong lady, you afraid your free ride is over and you’re going to have to actually WORK for a change? Trump needs to extend that wall right up the middle of this country. You libs need to pick a side (we’ll allow you that) so you don’t have a hissy fit. You all go to that side, the rest of us who want to get back to some sense of normalcy can. Obumma divided this nation like no one before him has. Since you can’t behave yourselves, we need to go the route of E. and W. Berlin. You stay on your side of the wall, we stay on ours. Your dumbed down ignorance is revolting.

          2. AKLady says

Your remarks are impressive, just not the way you intend.
People such as yourself have always divided America, Obama had nothing, whatsoever, to do with it. What Obama did was scare the pants off the bigots and haters — their rule had ended. Trump will be impeached before he can bring it back.

          3. AKLady says

Your selfishness and ignorance was worn out a long time ago.
You also post claiming to be a Christian. Ha, ha, ha …
On top of that you add nursery school name calling.

          4. AKLady says

Please find somewhere that suits you better ad move there.
Today would not be too soon.
            Name calling is very childish.

      2. got my licence says

Trash is trash and comes in all colors. It seems that you are the racist as either you see race in everything or just a lib that pulls out the race card at the drop of a hat.

        1. AKLady says

You are a bit confused. The hate and race card is played by the so-called conservatives.

      3. David Nichols says

JM, please show me where Austinniceguy made reference to ANY race.
And BTW, “If the shoe fits…”

        1. jimmy midnight says

C reply to Jerry C above. Then look up “obtuse” in any dictionary, now available online 4 the functionally illiterate.

          1. Austinniceguy says

We look up obtuse and there is a picture of your stupid mother for not doing the right thing when she found out she was pregnant with an idiot like you. Where is my reference to a particular race? Are you so racist that you think only one race dresses that way? Thank you for pointing yourself out to the rest of us.

          2. AKLady says

            Thank you.
            Your input is always welcome
It says so much about you.

          3. Austinniceguy says

You must be his mother. You’re welcome.

          4. Mathew Molk says

You use a lot of big words you found there, don’t you.

We prefer plane English. Like the President speaks.

          5. David Nichols says

It’s not surprising you would know where to find help for the functionally illiterate, but sadly there is nothing online to fix your kind of stupid…

          6. jimmy midnight says

Well, when spell-check underlines something, and it turns out not 2 B a typo, I am functionally illiterate 2 the extent that I don’t know how 2 spell that word at that time.

I find that most of the discrepancies R either about the doubling or not of certain consonants, and the enduring question, “How do U spell schwa?” (That neutral vowel sound that’s typically spelled, “U as in understand.”) In the middle of words it’s spelled with a,e,i,o,u, and sometimes y as in chemical names.

We all need help from time 2 time, and MY Momma didn’t raise no fools. I either guess or look up the correct spell in her honor,

            ‘Cause spells are magic.

          7. AKLady says

Sadly there is nothing online to fix your kind of ignorance, selfishness and hate.

          8. Austinniceguy says

This from the biggest idiot on here, aren’t you tired of putting your stupidity on display?

        2. glenn398 says

David give Jimmy a break he is worried that his days of living off the backs of others might be on the cutting block

          1. AKLady says

Anyone who is Christian enough to speak out for the poor disabled and elderly are targets of your hate and insults. You are simply a very ignorant, foolish bigot.

          2. Austinniceguy says

It is you morons who got rid of prayer in schools and don’t want Nativity Scenes in public at Christmastime. Now you want to use the Christian card? You idiots can’t have it both ways.

          3. glenn398 says

Have no problem with the disabled and elderly, it is the rest of those living off the backs of others I have a problem with.

          4. AKLady says

Not everyone who becomes impoverished does so at their choice.
Reminds me of the City of Milwaukee’s new business park. It was built two miles from the last bus stop. Originally, the factories, etc. were aroun the center of the city, here impoverished could walk to work and/or take a bus.

        3. AKLady says

He makes his point very clear.
Are you new to this blog?

          1. Austinniceguy says

Clearly it wasn’t your turn to use the community brain you pathetic libturds keep handing around, you make less sense than usual.

      4. Mathew Molk says

Whenever one of you snowflakes uses “racist” or any of the other “ist ” terms I ignore everything they say. It shows that the NWO Marxist stamp is on them and they are incapable of ordinal thought.

    2. Beeotchstewie the deplorable says

Yes I pass by them and often wonder why they ALWAYS have handicapped parking placards on those 75K Escalades.

      1. Austinniceguy says

I would say that’s because they were “injured on the job” which pays out handsomely and allows them a life of leisure.

        1. Beeotchstewie the deplorable says

          victimhood sure pays well!

        2. AKLady says

It does not pay out “handsomely”. In some starts it equals 60% of take home pay . In others, it is 80% of take home.

Oh, and workers’ compensation insurance coverage is not free.

By the way, any employer medical insurance is usually lost, because the injured worker can no longer pay for it.

          1. Austinniceguy says

Like you would know anything about the subject. Get yourself educated on fraud before making yourself look even more stupid than you already have.

      2. AKLady says

Because they worked hard, bought a nice car and then became handicapped.
May you have the same opportunities.

        1. Austinniceguy says

Careful what you wish for, it could come back on you.

    3. John Somers says

Yes and if you look closely they are also buying cut of meat and Lobster that you and I can, with some sacrifice, MAYBE once a year.

          3. Austinniceguy says

ROTFFLMFAO!!! Same here, that cr@p is DISGUSTING!!!! You couldn’t get me drunk enough to eat that!!!

          4. Beeotchstewie the deplorable says

No way would I ever touch that! Quick true story. In my youth I would go work on my uncle’s farm in North Carolina. My cousin and I would occasionally want to rid his tobacco barns of pigeons. We would each stand on one side and toss a rock on the tin roof , perfect skeet shooting practice. I had my grandfathers old side by side Winchester 12 gauge and he used my uncle’s remington pump 12 gauge. We would try to pump two loads of birdshot into each one. One time these black guys from down the creek came walking up and asked us if we wanted them pigeons, we replied no they are full of lead shot. We told them they could have them and they gort all excited about making some squab stew. That was like 30 years ago, but we still chuckle about it when I see Scott!

          5. Austinniceguy says

LOL!!! I guess that’s why we would see them sitting out on the front porch picking the lead shot out of their teeth.

          6. AKLady says

Led shot would break a tooth.
Ignorance and bigotry, is it not beautiful to behold.

          7. Austinniceguy says

            Neither are you.

          8. Beeotchstewie the deplorable says

            A poor man’s platinum grill!

          9. AKLady says

Bird shot can be removed from meat.
You might go to a fancy, expensive restaurant and price what a squab dinner costs. Squab is the fancy name for domestic pigeons.

          10. AKLady says

You have never eaten pork sausage in natural casings?

          11. Austinniceguy says

You keep posting the same thing and it still means nothing.

          12. AKLady says

You have never eaten pork sausage in natural casings?

          13. AKLady says

Apparently you don’t have the slightest idea to which you speak.
I bet you eat the small intestine of pigs fairly often, but then again, the sausage you buy may be in that artificial, plastic type casings.

          14. Austinniceguy says

As usual, you’re making assumptions about things you know nothing about. Typical libturd moron is what you are.

          15. AKLady says

Pork is the other white meat.
It stopped being unhealthy a long time ago.
Bacon goes a long way when used to flavor beans.
Poor children should not have treats in their lives?

          16. Austinniceguy says

Again, making BS up because you have no relevance.

      2. AKLady says

I sew, someone on food stamps can’t scrimp and save to buy a steak or a lobster?
Are you really that ignorance and hateful?

        1. Austinniceguy says

You “sew” someone? To you use you sewing machine when you “sew” them? You really are an idiot.

      3. AKLady says

Oh, and foolish one, that hamburger you are buying is a lot more expensive than the steak the person o food stamps is buying. You are throwing away 15% to 20% of every pound you buy — it is FAT you do not eat.

    4. Mathew Molk says

Cut all that free stuff out and the plantation will empty within 18 months. When you have to chose between getting your keester to work or starving to death you will be amazed how many will make the right choice.

      1. Austinniceguy says

Or take to breaking into other people’s homes and stealing from them because they feel that the world owes them everything for free.

        1. glenn398 says

Austinniceguy they do that anyway as it is an extra income along with the government handout, after all what else do they have to do.

          1. Austinniceguy says

Point well made and well taken!!!!

          2. glenn398 says

They have to entertain themselves somehow.

That’s what your stupid mother calls you.

        2. AKLady says

          Nice guy?
          What a laugh.

          1. Austinniceguy says

The only laugh anyone is getting here is from your absolute stupidity.

      2. AKLady says

        Are you really that ignorant?
You would put the disabled, elderly and children into the street?
        American ignorance is amazing.
        American selfishness is amazing.

        1. Austinniceguy says

I guess you’re scared that you and your leech family will end up homeless? it would serve morons like you right to end up that way. Who said anything about the disabled? You need to take classes in comprehension.

          1. Jerry C says

HOw can they? They’re too busy protesting…she’s just another Soros employee

    5. AKLady says

I guess they should have had thwir teeth pulled, donated their shoes and sold their car when the jobs went t Asia and India???
Are you still buying those foreign made goods?
You kept your job and you support the jobs you stole from them.

      1. Austinniceguy says

You ridiculous old idiot. You don’t even make sense. Your mother should have taken a coat hanger to her diseased hole when they told her the devil had knocked her up.

  13. chad says

Democrats are just worried about the millions who will lose their free medicaid.
Bums who don’t want to work shouldn’t get free health insurance or food stamps.
    Plain and simple.

    1. AKLady says

      Don’t want to work???
Why do you tell that lie?

  14. Morena_nic says

Under Obamacare the premiums and deductibles were tooo high for the working middle class Americans. Those at the bottom get taken care not by the government but by the paying taxpayers. The government gives you nothing. The Obama administration was taking/robbing the working class and rich to provide health care for those at the bottom. Again encouraging people to become poor so they will have no premiums or deductibles to pay. Rich people at the top can afford anything so they are not impacted. Obamacare hit the middle class the hardest with UNAFFORDABLE premiums and deductibles….to the point that those in the middle could not afford to get sick because they could not afford huge deductibles. So the joke was….you had a card that said you had insurance but good luck A) if you could find a doctor’s office to give you an appointment B) the middle class could not afford the premiums much less the high deductibles …a disaster!!!!

    1. Beeotchstewie the deplorable says

That is how you mainstream communism, by destroying the middle class and making one massive underclass.

  15. Morena_nic says

all government social programs including medicare and social security should be by CHOICE NOT FORCE otherwise it is a violation of our human right. The right to make our own decisions, free will, FREEDOM

  16. Mike W says

Go to the government office and look at the people in line for handouts – the newest I- phones, designer clothes – tattoo’s etc. They should be kicked off the dole immediately and that money given to those really in need.

I’m an old retired guy now but I have been at the social security office when I first applied and have been there a time of two with my wife after that. Brother, the young bucks that could be digging coal by hand for a living that I saw there. And the young women with 3 squalling brats that they let run wild all over the place.

I guess I knew you didn’t have to retire to get Social Security but the times I was there the ratio of people (Not including the ill disciplined rug rats) of less then 40 to over 62 had to be between 5 and 10 to one in favor of the young ones. No wounder the system is broke.

It really irks me when I hear people say that old people have taken away more money them we put into social security. Well within the evidence I see just by weight of numbers that can’t be true. If I didn’t have the money removed from my check and I invested it each week I would have more money now then I made in my entire career. I’d be bitching about all the taxes taken out of my dividends and live like a fat rat without touching the principal. Don’t get on my ass because after never being shy about taking the money out of my check and telling me I’d get it back “in my old age”,,,don’t blame me if the government screwed the pooch and gave it all away to dead beats that learned how to milk the system before they hit 30 years old. – And the same goes for Medicare. – You took our money for 40+ years. Now give us what you promised.

      1. Mike W says

It has been proven time and again that if they took the money that was taken out of everyone’s check for all those years and had invested it properly – the Social Security recipients would be so much better off. But they borrowed that money for other frivolous programs that never paid it back.

Add to that all the ILLEGALs who never paid one penny into the system that receive more money every month than those who paid in all their lives – it is disgusting. I thank God we have a businessman looking over the books now instead of a bunch of disbarred lawyers and crooked politicians.

      2. Paula says

My husband paid in almost 50 years, he died 3 month after he retired at the age of 65 . Nowdays it seems like anyone that knows how to SKREW the system can get on the DOLE ! They can bring in all relatives including SIBLINGS, COUSINS, PARENTS, GRANDPARENTS and guess who takes care of them SS and every other Government Welfare agency!!!

  19. John Williams says

Obamacare was never about health care, it was ALWAYS about control. If you have a percentage of the population that cannot afford healthcare and you feel you must, as the libs do, provide it in exchange for votes, then there is no reason to control 100% of the population to provide for coverage for 10%, the taxpayer is going to get stuck with the bill anyway. For those who support this kind of stupidity, either conservative or liberal, it is a fact that the insertion of government in the middle of anything will NEVER save money and it will NEVER simplify things, that is statistically impossible. All this is a moot point if you simply get the government out of it, it is not their job to provide and you or I DO NOT have a “right” to health care, remember the old “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness” thing, even happiness is not a right only the pursuit of it. I don’t care whether it is the GOP or the socialist/democrats doing it, it is NOT the job of the government to provide healthcare.

THAT I totally agree with. I am retired, and on a fixed income. I nave not had a raise in pay in 2 years. The cost of living has cone up about 7% in these 2 years!! BUT my health care went up 30%. Where does that extra money come from?

I didn’t realize health insurance is a right , period . Why is our congress wasting time on a health care bill that requires We The People to pay for health care for others when it already cost me , as a retired person on a fixed income , almost $500.00 a month ??? So the question , again , comes down to , why do We The People have to provide health Insurance for others ???

You guys keep talking about the lose of freedom with the ACA but you really don’t mean it. If you get rid of the mandate in the ACA (must have insurance or pay a fine) and a person chooses not to have insurance then that person should get only the care that they can pay for. No pay, no get. That IS the way of the free market. Why should anyone pay for someone’s healthcare if they don’t want to get insurance and can afford it? It’s not my fault that if they can’t afford to pay for service when delivered. Why should one penny of my money go to someone like that? People who are selfish like that (they go to an emergency room and that comes, in-part, out of my pocket) when they could have gotten insurance. That is exactly how the open and free market place works. I can make allowances for those who can’t pay because they are poor or working poor but not for those who can afford it and want me to pay for them.

By the way, the model is already there for that mandate and must also be eliminated and that is automobile liability insurance. I must have it or be fined and not be able to drive my own car. Add to that, there must be a minimum insurance level that I MUST have and that I can’t even buy, and pay less for, that goes under that amount. Also, the government is making me, by law, buy that insurance from a private company who decides how much money to give them with no say from me. Talk about government control. How is that right?

  25. Helga miller says

Sen. Chaffez is correct as I learned from my own family’s experience. Some would rather have the latest I-phones, cable tv etc. than paying for a healthcare premium. I have seen people on welfare who go gambling and wondered where they get the money for that? While it is none of my business, I feel there must be some fraud going on. BTW, I do not have a cell phone myself because I can’t afford it on a limited income and my Medicare deductible is $5,500 this year. What senior with health problems can afford that in addition to the $111/month Medicare premium? Everything seems to be queued to assisting lower income people with Government handouts to keep them dependent. That is the wrong mindset and we hope that Mr Trump can change that. Everybody to work NOW!

  26. Sharpshooter says

The government needs to get the hell out of health care as it does nothing but provide bribe money for them. We need to go back to the “free market” and stop paying millions of dollars to Congressman! Every time the government decides to “help” us, we get screwed and they get richer!

    1. Fedup says

I agree 100%. Healthcare is not a right. The government is not obligated to provide it. Those who are of working age may consider looking for jobs that offer insurance. My husband and I both work for employers that offer awesome benefits. You just have to look for those jobs.

  27. junkmailbin says

the people that do nothing want everything that the hard working do. Want a cell phone? get a basic life line phone for nada. Want an Iphone, buy it and do without the rest of the things you feel like you are entitled to.
We need to take care of the taxpayer better, not the bottomless pit takers.

  28. James Langham says

TRUMPCARE is just another tax giveaway to rich people. Poor people, the middle class and of course senior citizens, will be the ones on the short end of the stick, as usual. Millions of poor and middle class people work 2, sometimes 3 jobs just to be able to get by, barely. Millions of seniors, on SS, barely are able to make it, some have resorted to eating dog/cat food to survive. They don’t have enough money now. But who really cares?? How do they have enough money to contribute to a “health savings account?” They don’t. How does a “tax credit” benefit them? It doesn’t because they have such low income (which the tax credit will be based on), that they will get such a low credit, that they will never be able to save enough to buy insurance. Medicare/Medicaid will be decimated But who really cares? THEY ARE JUST MARGINAL ANYWAY. DRAINS ON SOCIETY.

  29. Mark Anthony Jones says

Our insurance before Obamacare was about $350/mo for 2 people. Now its $1400/mo for two people, but we still pay $382/mo and the subsidy covers the rest. There is no way that we could afford $1400/mo. Our plan ends every single year and we have to blindly choose a new plan. I say blindly, because we have to select it to see what’s it it and how it will work and then its too late for the year. This is what happens when you let government screw up the private market. This new Obamacare doesn’t even fix the thing that will lower rates the most -buying insurance across state lines.

    1. Mathew Molk says

Take away restrictions on insurance companies and let them sell to whoever has the money and you will get lower rates and better coverage. Get the government completely out of the insurance business and the insurance companies will be battling each other for the massive amounts of money spent on on insurance each year. If you don’t believe me just check the salaries of the CEOs, even after Obamecare. They are not STILL putting commercials on national TV because selling hospitalazation is a loosing proposition. — And on THAT subject. Remember when it was just that, Hospitalization. When you went to the doctor because you had the flu or pneumonia you dug into your pocket and paid the doctor yourself. I remember my parents taking me to “ol Doc Ramins” when I needed stitches. No emergency room unless you had a broken leg or heart attack, and the hospital was for things like an appendicitis or getting your tonsils out. Nobody made a hobby out of going to the ER or doctor for every little thing. – We even dug splinters out of our fingers ourselves. (Swear to God, I took a guy to the ER when he got pinned to a wall with a scissor lift and had broken ribs,,,,and there was a guy, not in working clothes, in to have a splinter extracted from his finger. )

  30. CNKIV says

Amen! Competent adults need to decide for themselves what their priorities are. Insurance of any kind was never designed or structured to be the payer of first resort to all medical expenses. Does your car insurance cover your oil changes? No.Does your Home Owners policy cover termites or Lawn care? No. Incidental health expenses, such as the Flu, birth control, or annual physicals can be paid from “Tax Free” health savings accounts. We live in a (supposed) free society. I’m frankly surprised to see so many Republicans have bought into the “Nanny State” mentality. Perhaps they have been there too long?!

  31. organic granny says

All of these discussions might actually be meaningful if everyone knew the difference between “health care” and “health insurance”.

We are talking about Americans buying HEALTH INSURANCE policies.
It needs to be called exactly what it is, because the dollars people spend are going to insurance companies, not some magical good health fairy. Calling health insurance schemes “health care” is just plain wrong, and it makes the speaker sound like an ignorant dolt.

Your health care begins at home, by living a sensible lifestyle, eating right, etc. Health care is the service you receive from a person, a medical professional or even your mother.
Health insurance pays a portion of your medical bills and awards insurance companies billions in profits annually.
    Wise up.

I read a good part of the ACA and everything I did read really troubled me because everything was “the Secretary” controlling everything-the location of hospitals per demographics, doctor quality and quantity, the “private corps” (???) – control, control, control…..of OUR healthcare. THAT is frightening! Basically milking the middle class some more while bringing it “down” to the lower levels of available medical care as is the case in third world countries while the “elites” enjoy Bethesda-type medical care……

  35. daveveselenak says

It should have been labelled “Death Care” as that is what it was meant do accomplish: death to the middle class, abortion and euthanasia, doctors being in charge of making medical decisions, death to privacy of medical records, this is what the Communist Party USA wanted for the sheeple – WAKE THE FUK UP ALREADY!

  36. William McNamara says

Look, Mr. Chaffetz. The American people do not want “Trumpcare”. We want a free, open marketplace so we can chose for ourselves what we do or do not need or want. You folks up there in the House and Senate have more important things to do than play “Big Brother” to 300+ million people. Don’t worry about us, we know what we’re doing. We built this nation once without a big brother-type government and we can do it again if you just get out of our way. You people in the House and Senate were elected to get rid of Obamacare, not slip in your own version of what government health care should be. Give us our insurance back.

  37. Jonathan Brooks says

Look, Chaffetz, we are not stupid. Obamacare is a giant tax scheme to suck big money from the public, including a Inheritance tax, to pay for a regulatory monstrosity hybrid of insurance and big government. We do not want mandates, or forced participartion in Insurance from companies who get a freebie monopoly.

If Congress wanted to do something in the first place to make health insurance more reasonably priced all they had to do was make it possible to buy it across state lines. I’m sick and tired of the liberals and some middle of roaders or rinos extorting money from me through the IRS to use for public programs designed to buy votes from undisciplined social leeches. All they managed to do with Obama Care was inflict undue pain on us all. Scrap Obamacare completely, open sales of health insurance nationwide and create a competitive situation among the insurance companies and vote in term limitations or we will.

    1. pics fixer says

The idea of selling Healthcare Insurance across state lines is not new and there are no laws that prohibit it. Here is a link to an article that explains it better than I can. I checked with other articles about that problem and this gets it in a nutshell. It’s a big nutshell but easy to understand. As you will see, it’s a problem less about law than just plain complicated. Complicated equals big money on a national scale.

I hope that this can answer some of your questions. It would be very nice if passing a simple law could solve that problem. We would all benefit. This is not an issue of right, left or center.

  42. GuardianFlame says

When obamacare came out, it was full of so many mandates that not only did it destroy an individual’s ability to choose a “better qualified” doctor, but it impacted numerous Medical Doctors to the point that they refused to take obamacare patients. Soon doctors were leaving poor economy areas because there were more o”bomb”acare patients than normal healthy patients.

That is exactly what happened in Northern California. Most of the “good” doctors left for higher income areas that didn’t have mass obamacare patients. Then began the Medical Insurance Companies shut down – leaving obamacare as the only choice for many folks. It was “supposedly” created for America’s poor – what a laugh! The poor can’t afford the monthly charges for obamacare, so they have – AGAIN – no insurance and go to Emergency Rooms for their treatments. Nothing has changed there for our poor.

There is so much WRONG WITH O”BOMB”ACARE BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER CREATED TO HELP AMERICANS BUT TO FINANCIALLY DESTROY AMERICA. When will the clueless, ignorant liberals get it that barack HATED AMERICA AND WANTED HER DESTROYED? You don’t have to be a Rocket Scientist to see his hatred and disrespect for our country by both he and Michelle. Neither of them belonged in our White House but Soros financially manipulated our elections so bho would win. Without OWO Soros, barack would never have been elected. There is your VOTER FRAUD!

There is why obombacare was created – to hurt our strong country and level the playing field for the One World Order…and it almost worked! Thank God President Trump is in office to clean up this regurgitated mess the Liberals have left! And he will do just that!

    1. pics fixer says

So, your solution is not to fix the parts that are broken but to delete the ACA and let those people who don’t have the access to healthcare (either because there are no facilities or they don’t have the money to buy it.) just hang out there, get sick and die. In the story of Scrooge, that was his solution, and, It does work.

The problem of of the ACA not being able to help the needy among us was fixed with the Medicaid Expansion. However because of a Republican lawsuit, States were able to not be part of it and in those States (all red ones) the poor were not able to have healthcare and Ebenezer Scrooge won the day. There are other problems. The ACA is quite basic but very fixable.

As for that mandate……….ALL, I mean ALL insurance works like this; there must be a much larger base buying the insurance from whatever Insurance Firm that are less likely to need it to pay those that do need it. That’s true of Auto, Boat, Theft, Fire, Accident, and every other type you can add to that list including Healthcare. The cost of the policy you buy is determined by experts who study the topic and determine the probabilities of someone collecting on it in relation to those who won’t need to collect and how much. The owner of the insurance company is betting that they will have more coming in than going out. You get the policy on the hopes that you won’t need it but it’s there to save you just in case. That’s the way it is, not my fault. Lesson over. Sooo….the Mandate requires (by law) that everyone has to have healthcare insurance. The young and healthy who will need it less (most of the people) and those who stand a good chance of needing it. In this country the young and healthy don’t get healthcare insurance because they don’t expect to need it (talk about plying the odds) and if they do get sick or injured, they go to an Emergency Room (because they WON”T be turned away) so the rest of us can pay for it at the time of service. That is very selfish. The model for that Mandate is there and working already and that’s Automobile Liability Insurance. That’s the EXACT same Mandate.

As for HOW it works, that is the same as before because it’s the privately held Insurance Companies that insure you. Not the government! However there are rules that govern the program that range from what is the minimum level of insurance program to who pays what and everything in-between much the same as Automobile Liability Insurance. I do fault Pres. Obama for not telling everyone you can’t keep crap insurance that won’t cover you while you are paying for it. There is a minimum standard, a baseline, and you can’t even buy less, just like Automobile Liability Insurance. That baseline is determined by a panel of recognized experts (selected and paid for by the Companies) and that has ALWAYS been the case. Outside of that, it’s the Insurance Companies who determine the doctors you can use (which does change allot) and what level of treatment you can have above the baseline, just as before. If the insurance company decides that a particular market is not good for them, they walk.

What keeps the insurance companies in places that are not that profitable (but profitable just the same) a couple of things that Republican lawsuits eliminated. At the start of the ACA and until the entire program kicks in (5 years), the losses (from underserved areas) were covered by a money reserve that came from the insurance companies themselves. Healthcare Insurance Companies are very profitable and can afford to kick into that reserve. The Mandate. The Medicaid Expansion, which is paid for by the Feds and not the States. Also some taxes, that were kept: Medical devices, Luxury Plans, etc.

The full ACA didn’t kick in until 2016 so the time need to see where the fixes would be needed have yet to be measured. Some were. The uncertainty cause by the Republicans (who are NOT interested in providing Healthcare for everyone) is what rattled the insurance companies. If success is what everyone wanted then that’s what would happen. The idea of paying more taxes for universal healthcare, even privately run, is not what some selfish Americans want. You can’t buy healthcare then F**k You! ” The sooner you die, the better!” as Ebenezer Scrooge did say.

      1. GuardianFlame says

Already knew ALL of that…every last word! Not news to anyone.

ISSUE #1: Where the problem lies is that our Govt is $20, 000, 000, 000 in the hole. We have no gold reserves to back our currency, and no source of huge income to bring our debt down but taxing the people – which obama tried and failed. So the govt robs our Social Security funds to pay for services that they have no $$. WRONG ON ALL FRONTS – NOT ITS MONEY TO TAKE!

ISSUE #2: If obombacare is such a great insurance, why have GOOD DOCTORS left areas where the poor outnumber the affluent? Tell me WHY is that happening? Never mind, we all know. Because that inept insurance was drafted by non-medical people and it never gave a thought to the monies the doctors would lose by accepting bho’s mandate. Doctors that want more control left that health mandate and moved physically to areas with less poverty leaving people to be medically treated by less dedicated and less desired mediocre doctors. And it gets even worse for SPECIALISTS! Most have left rural areas where middle to lower income people live and moved to the larger cities where more affluent people live. So what good is a health insurance if you can’t find a “good” doctor but are forced to use a “left over” mediocre one — and you have a life threatening medical issue? NO. GET RID OF OBOMBACARE!

THE HEALTH MANDATE IS THE POOREST EXCUSE OF A HEALTH PLAN FOR EVERYONE AND NEEDS TO BE KILLED…PERIOD. We do not need to keep something that basically destroys our economy by the government stealing monies to cover the poor and destitute. And, when the Middle Class can’t find a suitable doctor nor can they afford to pay the hideous monthly payments because if they don’t have insurance they will be fined????? And the only doctor’s accepting that lousy financially draining insurance are rejects from medical school! What the hell is good abt that crap? NOT A DAMN THING!

The one thing you never understood about that health mandate is it was created to be so complex that it would financially break AMERICA or at best, break her people. READ THAT LAST SENTENCE AGAIN, SLOWLY. Bho did not want to help our country but to hurt her and the best way to do that is to force her people into INSURANCE BONDAGE knowing full well that the good doctors wouldn’t stand for it and leave the economically poor areas leaving people to struggle with even poorer medical care at exhorbitant costs — and that means not only monetarily but healthwise!

NO, all you said was how any insurance works, and not that it was doing the job because it IS NOT! It was poorly designed with no care to the American people nor their doctors. SCREW OBAMACARE!

If young people don’t want to pay for insurance, so be it. They are adults and capable of making their own decisions. If healthy adults do not want insurance, they have the RIGHT to make that choice. No govt has the right to demand they be covered…you are talking about a Socialistic govt (the Wet Dream of every Liberal Democrat)– which the United States is not, but obama tried to make it happen.

Our country was built with FREE ENTERPRISE where you can choose what school your kid can go to or which doctor you want to help your medical needs – NOT HAVE THE FEDERAL GOVT DICTATE WHERE AND WHO TO YOU! You need to remember how our Nation grew to be powerful — and it wasn’t by having our govt make all our personal decisions – that is for us to make, not the feds! Anyone that believes the health mandate is a good idea is a SOCIALIST and Americans already showed Bernie Sanders what they think abt Socialism. IT DOESN’T BELONG IN THE U.S.!

Thanks for the definition of how insurance of any kind works – we already know that. Americans DO NOT WANT ANY GOVT TELLING THEM THEY “HAVE TO HAVE ANYTHING” OR THEY WILL BE FINED. Let Free Enterprise give people better choices and the States can deal with those too destitute to afford any insurance. The federal govt needs to back away and let Americans have Freedom of Choice…it’s the American way. Guess you have to be born in America to understand that – bho never was and will never “GET IT”.

        1. pics fixer says

I get where you’re coming from. I have to respect it. I just think it’s inhumane. Here is why: If you want to have a free-market economy without ANY interference from the government then you MUST accept these things…….You buy a new car from an established automaker and all of a sudden the computer that operates the entire car burns out. There you are DITW (Dead In The Water) you go to the dealer and they tell you that the warranty will not cover that computer and if you make a big deal out of it, they will sue you for slander. You can’t try to keep other people from buying from them because they will destroy you financially with law suits. There are no regulations or laws to protect you. How about that healthcare insurance you refuse to buy because you feel you don’t need it. You get the flu, Treat it yourself (doctor is too expensive) and it turns into pneumonia. You call an ambulance and they demand money from you because you don’t carry the few hundred bucks they want. So, you get a buddy to take you to the emergency room. They finally get around to you but you can barely breath and won’t admit you because you don’t have the means to pay. You die a slow gasping death. That’s the free-market at work. No money at time of service, no play or better yet they charge you more because they can. In a mature society you need rules and they have to be enforced. What I just outlined IS the totally unencumbered free-market you want. You don’t want to take responsibility for your healthcare, then die. No complaints. As for that car, well, too bad. Shudda’ had a lawyer with you when you bought it.

Another thing………The closest thing we have to Socialism is Medicare and that is a long way from it. While Medicare is a single payer system it does not own the hospitals, pay the doctors, nurses, orderlies, repair people and so on, a salary because they are employees. To be a Socialist system all means of production and all the personnel are owned by medicare directly and Medicare is owned by the state. That does not exist. Medicare’s single payer system depends on privately owned medical infrastructure and privately trained doctors who work for themselves for the most part and privately owned everything else.

As it stands now, it is the insurance companies tell you what doctor you can see, what treatment you can have, and how much they are willing to go to let you live. You don’t vote for a single one of those executives who have so much control over your well being. Unless of course you are wealthy enough to pay for service and-or the best, most expensive policy available.

The free-market, totally unencumbered is deadly to any society which is true for ANY pure economic or social system. The one that works will ALWAYS be a hybrid of a combination of systems with an overarching system to protect us and set and enforce the rules. Let’s call that Government. In this country we the people select that government every 2-4-6 years. If it doesn’t work it’s our fault.

I gave you enough examples to illustrate what I’m talking about and I’m sure that you and those you love don’t want to live under a pure free-market system. If you do, leave me out. Mr. Trump has not discharged himself very well up to now. I hope he matures into a good President. I wish him well. His success will be our success. So far, not so good.

This pure free-maket stuff that normal middle class Republican people crave is also pure BS.

          1. GuardianFlame says

I agree there should be a partial free enterprise but your examples of the car dealership and the hospital ER. Neuther is true. I worked at a high end luxury car dealership that offered many ways for customers to pay for the maintenance of their vehicles. We never took advantage of them but worked with them. The only people that had issues were the ones that bought cars above their pay grade and expected the dealership to give them breaks in the maintenance price. If you buy high end, you need to expect to pay high end maintenance prices. That’s just how it works. Dealerships don’t try to jerk you around, atkeast the one I worked for didn’t.

As for the hospital, any person entering any ER exhibiting breathing issues is immediately taken back for breathing machines. I know that because my children had asthma and allergies. My daughter ate some mixed nuts which were highly allergenic to her causing her throat to start to close. She was at a friends. By the time I got there her lips were showing blue which the admittance nurse saw. The ER waiting room was full with people standing in the halls. When we walked in and the admittance nurse looked at my daughter, she stopped everything, calked a nurse and imnediately took her back for treatment. We just walked in, but my daughter was critical and everyone immediately began working on her. She is fine, but does not eat mixed nuts any more. When someone is in a life or death situation, money is the last thing the attending physician is thinking about. Healing & saving a person is the only important thing!

Hopefully, our Nation can find its self again and American citizens will become the most important agenda — not money, not power, not illegals, not muslims, but American citizens.

When people find pride in themselves, they will find pride in their Nation. It goes hand in hand. The only way that is going to happen is if people find God back in their hearts directing their lives. He has been removed from many lives and our Society is failing our children. That is a sadness that kills any parent’s heart…

I happen to agree with you . I was using those things as an example of freewheeling pure free-market system without enforced rules (read, laws). That is a society nobody wants. The idea is to have protective laws and regulations without going overboard. The only entity that can protect our water, food supply, airport, roads and bridges, etc. is the government. The only thing anyone of us wants is that the laws and regs not get abusive. They are necessary for our well being and everyones protection. What you and I want is that they do that job without becoming impediments to forward motion. I’m sure that you don’t want to live in a society without NONE of the rules that protect us.

When I was in the service it happened that my division had a nice group of religions and nationalities in it (just the way it worked out. We all considered ourselves Americans but also as the particular heritage we happen to be. This country of ours was at the start was created to have religion tolerance. We fled European kings to be free to practice religion here. That idea has grown bigger in time and we are who we are because of it. Every culture brings with it new ideas that become blended with what is here already and I would say, it worked out rather well. I live in a city that has (for example) Arab and Israeli communities live next to each other. They shop in the same stores and get along living side by side very well. The reason I think is because they put on that American thing or whatever else you want to call it. They become a member of the American culture. I actually see that happen. It may not be perfect and even sloppy at times but it does happen like I said. Whoever comes here becomes us. Anything that disturbs that wonderful thing has to stop. If we don’t live together, we won’t live at all. If you don’t believe that, ask any citizen of the Roman Empire…………What……..oh ya’, there is no Roman Empire.

          3. Bachelor With Sense says

Ahhh, don’t read or understand the Bible much?

The “Roman Empire” morphed slightly into the Papacy and is VERY MUCH alive today! You worship on SUNday because of it! The “One World Order” is IT! Run by the Jesuit enforcers… they want to kill the nations that broke away from the Catholic Church and they are using the muslims to accomplish that task.

As to the rest of your argument, pretty good, EXCEPT that you can NOT show me a single person who does NOT have access to healthcare!

Under Obama, healthcare got WORSE,as it was intended to because he recognized that making healthcare worse was the FASTEST way to kill America which he HATES. He was and is Supported by the Democrat Party, even though he is NOT eligible to be president! SO, What does that say about the Democrat Party? It proves that the Party also hates America. QED.

Holy horse feathers, where did all that come from? The last thing I noticed is that Rome has a hard enough time running Italy. Your logic is crystal clear. You have lifted the vail of darkness and I can now see. You win.

          5. GuardianFlame says

Yes, you are right. And yes there was no Rome because it became heathenistic, believed in Golden Idols and immoral acts. That’s what happens when there are poor rulers and even poorer laws. Let’s pray that is not where we as a Nation are going. We really need to pull it together and our President needs to guide us fairly and honestly. We can do this if the libs will just shut up for a while. Time will tell…

First they should have a bill that makes obamacare expire at the end of this year. After that they should build a new plan from scratch, and complete it by October. There needs to be wider choices….buying across state lines, medical savings accounts, major-medical only plans for young and healthy who rarely seek care, perhaps being able to deduct all medical expenses on tax day, more a la carte choices. Also tort reform.
Men and postmenopausal women shouldn’t have to pay for plans with contraceptives, nor do they need OB care. Not everyone needs the same level of coverage.

Does everyone have an altruistic “right” to health care, and, if so, why?
Does a society have a pragmatic economic rationale to provide health care for all its citizens?

PROBLEM: Escalating health care costs, and the insecurities of the populace regarding health care.

    PROVENANCE: Greed, inefficiencies, ignorance, etceteras
    1) Greed includes fraud on the part of providers and patients: controls and severe penalties should be legislated to mitigate.
    2) Inefficiencies include, but are not limited to, inefficient utilization of personnel, equipment and facilities, administrative overhead, and profit motive on steroids.
    3) Ignorance on the part of providers and patients can be mitigated by a massive computerization of information, i.e., the “mind” of the computer is vastly superior to providers and should be made available to patients and providers.
    4) Etceteras to include, but not be limited to, better nutrition, responsibilities and behavior of recipients of health care, and preventative care.

RESOLUTION: To be determined, subsequent to analyzing the problem

I believe that the Obama Administration is correct in recognizing that the accelerating cumulative costs of health care in our nation must be addressed.

Since we know where we are regarding this problem, most energies should be devoted to determining where we should be.

We must analyze the logistics and economics for the purpose of determining the most efficient and effective method of delivering health care, cost effectively.

First, a decision must be made as to who will bear the burden of the costs of health care.

The possibilities include businesses, the recipients of health care services, or the government.

If it were determined that all costs should be borne by businesses, the good would be that employees would receive health care at no cost, whereas the bad would be that the costs of providing health care would be included in the costs of goods and services produced, which would necessitate higher selling prices for those goods and services than if there were no health care costs.

For those businesses that compete against similar businesses in other nations, their ability to compete would be adversely affected versus if they did not have the burden of those health care costs.

Within a competitive world economy, the United States of America should be considered as U.S.A., Inc. and would be competing against Japan, Inc., China, Inc., et cetera, thus it would make pragmatic economic sense to mitigate costs of goods produced.

If it were determined that all costs should be borne by the recipients of health care services, economic pressures would be placed upon businesses to increase employees’ remuneration to enable them to pay for their health care, thus whether the costs are paid by businesses or employees, the cost to produce goods will include the cost of health care.

If it were determined that all health care costs should be borne by the government, the good would be that all employees would have health care, and businesses would have their costs to produce goods and services devoid of any health care costs, while the bad would be that the government would inherit the obligation to fund these massive health care costs. Incredibly important benefits would be the sense of security of the populace, which would affect all other aspects of their lives and the enhanced competitiveness of businesses competing internationally.

The transitioning from where we are to where we should be would cause serious upheavals and dislocations, e.g., employment reconfigurations, but subsequently we will have sophisticated and fine-tuned our current disparate montage of health care to an efficient and cost-effective system for the delivery of health care.

Our leaders are involved in the process of searching for the correct paradigm regarding the delivery of health care for our nation. Unfortunately, they appear to be in a triage quagmire effort rather than resolving to discover the appropriate paradigm. They are attempting to reconfigure a condemned edifice, rather than tearing down the walls and allowing the light of day to expose truth.

Economics, rather than politics, religion, et cetera must be the leading factor directing our leaders to the correct paradigm, i.e., where we should be.

Please explain why America spends 21% GDP on healthcare, but no one else spends more than 13% with not much difference in outcomes.

Generally I agree with you, but people must be forced to buy health insurance if we have coverage for preexisting conditions and free mandatory medical coverage at emergency rooms. Why would anyone buy with these regulations in place?

  46. Martin says

Where was the criticism when Obama said almost the same thing that Jason Chaffetz said?

  47. DonRS says

What do you anticipate: American’s forgoing IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION or PREPARING FOR FUTURE UNCERTAIN EVENTS. By eliminating the limitation of pre-existing conditions, no need to buy health insurance only if/when it is needed. Soon, maybe the government will do the same for our home insurance – allowing homeowners to purchase fire insurance AFTER, not before, their homes have burned down! Why would anyone chose to purchase health insurance?

      Remember ObamaCare?
You could have your phone and healthcare too.
Leave it to a republican to take the country backwards.
Next it will be the choice of food or housing?

Of course he is right, but PC doesn’t allow anyone to say things like personal responsibility and choices.

There is and was nothing affordable about the ACA. 84% or 11.2 million of the people who enrolled were on Medicaid or the Child Health Program. 7.6 million who had Employer sponsored insurance, lost coverage, which is certainly no improvement. 6 years after Obamacare was put into place, 21% of the countries low income people and 27% of Hispanics are still not insured. People who had to buy their own insurance has increased 21.3%, although many of them bought insurance to avoid the fines, which are $625 for an adult or $347 for a child or 2.5% of household income, whichever is higher. Many of those who bought into it can’t use it due to high premiums or high deductible or both. The lowest tier at the beginning of 2017 cost $80 per person, per month. Those plans offer no coverage for treatment, preventive care, medication or anything else until a deductible is met. That deductible averages $6000 per person or $12,393 per family. Those plans also come with a coverage cap of $5429 per person, which means millions of people are paying for insurance that does nothing for them. Even if they have a catastrophic event and meet the deductible, they are covered for less than they have already paid in. Premiums for those who actually pay for insurance have increased almost 100%, and have increased twice, in the last 4-5 months. One of Obama’s last executive orders, takes money from Medicare to dump into failed Obamacare, and cutting payments for Medicare patients, on hip and knee surgery, cataract surgery, and new heart disease technologies. The last delay has caused the lives of 5000 to10,000 Medicare beneficiaries.
The question of a new cell phone versus insurance is more about eating and feeding your family
versus insurance. What happens when the workers and Seniors of the US end up on Medicaid, which is happening more and more often recently? Who subsidizes Obama care then?

  51. Germansmith says

Was not as much a callous remark….we have come to expect those as it was an stupid one (wait, we also expect those as well)

Maybe we should expect a provision to force Congresspeople to also buy in the open market so they understand the prices for health insurance. With the premium I pay every month I can buy 2 i-phones per month.
Lots of the people with a preexisting condition can not afford to pay those premium even considering the “generous” tax break the representatives of the wealthy are offering us….
Maybe that is the plan, let those people died and it will be easier on Medicare and Social Security
