Study: Green New Deal Would Cost Each Household More than $600,000
The Green New Deal – the brainchild of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey – has electrified progressives within the Democratic Party, drawn endorsements from several key presidential contenders, and inspired environmentalists who want to see the party take on climate change as a major issue in 2020 and beyond.
Outside the left-wing bubble, however, the news hasn’t been so great.
The initial rollout of the legislation was a disaster, inviting mockery from all corners for its ludicrous suggestions including economic security for those “unwilling to work,” a decisive end for commercial air travel, and the elimination of – yes – “farting cows.” Now there’s another piece of bad news for the Green New Deal in the form of an independent study that found the legislation would come with a price tag just shy of unthinkable.
The American Action Forum, a group headed up by the former director of the Congressional Budget Office, analyzed Ocasio-Cortez’s signature legislation and found that it would cost American taxpayers as much as $93 trillion over a ten year period. That equals out to about $600,000 per household. And according to the AAF, that price tag would only be the most obvious of the Green New Deal’s tragic impact on the United States.
“The Green New Deal is clearly very expensive,” the group said. “It’s further expansion of the federal government’s role in some of the most basic decisions of daily life, however, would likely have a more lasting and damaging impact than its enormous price tag.”
This analysis, along with others that predict similar economic landslides, did not convince Sen. Kamala Harris to turn away from the idiotic legislation. In an interview with CNN on Sunday, the presidential hopeful said that she was still fully behind the Green New Deal and the separate-but-related Medicare-for-all plan.
“There’s no question we have to be practical. But being practical also recognizes that climate change is an existential threat to us as human beings,” Harris said. “Being practical recognizes that greenhouse gas emissions are threat to our air, and threatening our planet. And that it is well within our capacity as human beings to change our behaviors in a way that we can reduce its effect. That’s practical. Of course we can afford it.”
This is the stock answer for Ocasio-Cortez, Markey, Harris, Bernie Sanders, and anyone else who has put themselves too far out on a limb with this nonsense to turn back now. Oh yes, it will be mightily expensive…but what are the costs of NOT doing it?
Well, that’s no kind of answer at all, and we sincerely hope that the American people are not so distracted by the bright and shiny objects in the Democratic Party right now that they fail to see the truth that’s right in front of them. This Deal – and every other aspect of this Nu-Socialist platform – would bankrupt our nation and send us down an irrevocable road to ruin. THIS is the agenda that calls for a Resistance. A fierce one.
