Trump DOJ Will Root Out the Real Racism in America’s Universities
The New York Times obtained a document this week that signals a change in direction for the Justice Department’s civil rights division. Instead of spending untold resources on chasing down every liberal racism fantasy in the country, the DOJ will begin addressing a long-overdue problem in American higher education: Affirmative action. In a move that’s certain to outrage the nation’s racial grievance industry, which considers “diversity” to be the highest and most noble cause a university can hope to attain, President Trump’s Justice Department will investigate and possibly sue colleges that disadvantage whites and Asian-American applicants so they can fill (unwritten, unspoken) racial quotas.
From the Times:
The document, an internal announcement to the civil rights division, seeks current lawyers interested in working for a new project on “investigations and possible litigation related to intentional race-based discrimination in college and university admissions.”
The document does not explicitly identify whom the Justice Department considers at risk of discrimination because of affirmative action admissions policies. But the phrasing it uses, “intentional race-based discrimination,” cuts to the heart of programs designed to bring more minority students to university campuses.
Supporters and critics of the project said it was clearly targeting admissions programs that can give members of generally disadvantaged groups, like black and Latino students, an edge over other applicants with comparable or higher test scores.
The paper spoke to Kristen Clarke of the left-wing Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, who said the new direction was inappropriate.
“This is deeply disturbing,” she told the Times. “It would be a dog whistle that could invite a lot of chaos and unnecessarily create hysteria among colleges and universities who may fear that the government may come down on them for their efforts to maintain diversity on their campuses.”
Oh, Ms. Clarke, we are working from a different definition of “unnecessarily.” Because if our colleges and universities are violating our civil rights laws in an effort to “maintain diversity,” then they have every reason to fear that the government may “come down on them.” If they aren’t? Great, we’ve got no problem. But it’s very telling that liberals seem to be admitting that these admission programs do not strictly adhere to the letter of the law when rifling through applicants, scouring them for unqualified minority students who can take the place of better prospects.
We’re never going to get past our national problems with race by reversing racism, and that’s all affirmative action has ever done. It’s about time we had a Justice Department willing to put an end to this nasty practice.
