Trump Pulls U.S. Out of TPP in First Major Order

229

In one of his first major policy moves as president, Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday to withdraw the U.S. from all Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. The decision to pull the country out of the TPP was a long time coming and in line with promises the new president made while on the campaign trail.

In a 2015 interview with Breitbart, Trump said the TPP had failed to include provisions that would protect U.S. workers.

“The deal is so bad because of the fact they don’t cover currency manipulation,” Trump said. “It’s the number-one weapon used by foreign countries to hurt the United States and take away jobs.”

At the time, Trump said the deal was a ready-made gift to China.

“We are giving away what ultimately is going to be a back door for China,” he said. “China will take advantage of it – all the weak points in it, more than anybody else.”

Together with his announced intention to start renegotiating NAFTA, the executive order proves that President Trump is serious about taking a fresh look at free trade.

Trump’s position on trade has put him at odds with leaders in the Republican Party, which has always been in favor of lowering barriers of economic opportunity. However, Trump has insisted that his argument with NAFTA and the TPP aren’t so much ideological but practical. He doesn’t have a problem with “free trade”; he has a problem with the specifics of America’s current international trade agreements.

One problem: NAFTA and the TPP were largely designed and negotiated by liberal presidents who gummed up the works by trying to push their progressive policies. With TPP specifically, President Obama could have gotten the U.S. a better deal if he hadn’t insisted on pushing his climate agenda. Whether he went in that direction to pull Democrats on board or to further his own interests, it weakened what could have been a mighty fine Asian partnership deal.

Hopefully, Trump will revisit the possibility of an Asian free trade alliance before his term is up. Free trade is a good thing for the American economy, but it has to be done right. With the help of conservative economists, business leaders, and a little motto called “America First,” Trump can revamp our approach to trade and bring good-paying jobs back to the U.S.

Wow, getting things he promised done already. I wonder when Obama’s promises are going to begin to materialize? One could argue that he got the Affordable Care Act signed into law, but is it really affordable? It is for those with heavily and totally subsidized premiums, but it is an albatross around the necks of hard working Americans now asked to pay the freight of many others besides themselves!

When George Stephanopolis interviewed Barack Obama about Obamacare, Obama INSISTED that the penalty for not buying insurance would be a FINE and NOT a TAX.
He must have realized that all tax bills MUST originate in the House of Representatives and not the Senate, according to the Constitution.
Obamacare originated in the Senate, and was the brain child of Harry Reid. It was originally called the Senate Health Care Bill. Reid attached this bill to another bill that came to the Senate from the House concerning the military, in order to claim that the health care bill originated in the house.
The Supreme Court decreed that the penalty for not buying insurance was a TAX. THEREFORE IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL, REGARDLESS OF WHAT JUSTICE ROBERTS SAID.
If the penalty were decreed to be a fine, it would STILL be unconstitutional, because it would have violated the commerce clause of the Constitution by forcing people to buy something they did not want.
In either case, it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

I agree, and look what this FIASCO has cost working tax payers. Wasn’t it around $575 million or so, plus the fix ~$75 million? How much of that cost was LAUNDERED back to Dumb A$$ oc RATS in the form of campaign contributions?

Put all the politicians on his plan without giving them any subsidizes toward paying for it and lets see how they respond

Giving ‘access’ to a new Healthcare system is not a guarantee of healthcare. Who is to decide if a new system is affordable ? The TPP had nothing to do with dislocation of our job marketplace. What Trump is trying to do – is raise the prices of imports such that it becomes more profitable to manufacture here than abroad. If you think about it, that will make everything more expensive for US consumers because they will then be paying the freight for higher production costs (or subsidizing US workers) for what they consume. This will tend to make us les prosperous – not at all what was promised. Secondly – if we buy less from foreign companies, they will have less cash with which to buy our exports. So we will start to produce less goods. There are good solutions but this fooll in th White House does not seem to know what they are.

      2. kbmiller says

You again, you LYING Jacka$$, OHOMO care is what’s too expensive. Higher premiums and even higher deductibles have priced so many people out that they never use it. Perhaps if the manufacturing jobs were brought back to the USA, the labor force participation rate would be closer to where it’s been for decades, around 67 – 68 %, instead of 62 % where Bath House Barry has lowered it to. Maybe there’d be less than 94 million people unemployed. Are you still too cowardly to look up those stats, which are from the US Labor Dept., Morty? If the Dumb A$$ oc RAT controlled unions didn’t have the power to strike every time their panties were in a bunch and demanded higher wages and benefits, consumers would pay lower prices for everything. Finally, if prices are a bit higher because of “In country” manufacturing, isn’t it better to have more people working and paying taxes, than loafing and drawing welfare? It’s been said that the best thing to give a man is not welfare but a JOB. There are good solutions but an A$$wipe, LEFTIST, SOCIALIST WHINER like you still can’t agree on common sense and never will. Maybe if ex pres. OHOMO wouldn’t have given $221 million to Iran on his way out the door and the other $billions he sent them a few months ago we’d be better off. You never mention any mistakes OHOMO has made, why is that? Time for your crayons and play dough.

        1. John says

If we didn’t have unions then we could have all the people working including cleaning the streets, etc but the unions stop this the same way you cannot do something to help another worker if you are not hired to do it. This is why you see a lot of workers on the highways standing around doing nothing and it takes so long to get something done. One man in the hole and 5 above talking and looking in when it only takes 2.

          1. Mr Rollo says

WOW! I am in PA near Route 202. It took PENNDOT like 20 years to complete a 10 mile stretch of highway. Every time we drove it, it is exactly as you said, – – – there was one worker in the hole talking to the 5 outside of the hole as to how many squirrels and birds they counted for the day. A bunch of lazy SOBs and their bosses approved. However, they may have been non-union SCABS working it ( pun intended) ! ! ! !

          2. kbmiller says

I’ve worked at a steel mill, railroad, Ford Motors manufacturing and a printing co. The unions protected the bad workers, and effected productivity negatively. A good, hardworking honest employee does not need a union in today’s USA, the employer knows the value of that worker and wants to keep him/her.

          3. Norman says

Labor unions no longer care about workers – labor unions only care about collecting union member dues for the benefit of the union officials.

      3. pineapple says

“Who is to decide if a new system is affordable ? ”

The people who pay the premiums decide if they can afford them, and now it appears that the middle class can not afford Obamacare due to skyrocketing premiums and exorbitant deductibles.
Only those who receive a government subsidy can afford Obamacare.

Obamacare is also a job killer because small companies will not hire more than fifty employees so they avoid the high costs of Obamacare.

      4. John Somers says

Morton I only have one question because I just a TAD confused here.
My question is; Why is it you call the man a fool and believe that he has somehow hurt the U.S. and HE’S the Multi-Billionaire and you’re not.

Obama by the Numbers: Is America Better Off Now than When Obama took Office?

Compared with the situation eight years ago before President
Obama took office, America is much worse off now in any number of ways.
Here is a brief enumeration of several of them:

            The Economy

For many people, the economic numbers for the U.S. tell most of the
story of the Obama administration: the national debt increased while
wages fell and the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) tanked.

Indeed, Obama nearly doubled the national debt from $10.6 trillion in
2009 to $20 trillion as of the end of 2016. So, in essence, Obama was
responsible for almost half the entire national debt while effectively
doubling it in dollar terms. In fact, he increased the national debt
more than all previous U.S. presidents combined.

Partially as a result, Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S.’s
credit rating, and there were multiple debt ceiling crises in Congress,
including a two-week shutdown of the government in 2013.

At the same time, the U.S. economy as a whole grew at a dismal
average of 2.1 percent during Obama’s tenure, and the highest growth
Obama could boast during his two terms as president was 2.6 percent in
            2015.

Obama didn’t have a single year where the economy grew by at least
three percent, whereas from 1790 to 2000, U.S. GDP grew an average of
3.79 percent per year. The longest previous similar downturn only lasted
four years, and that was in the Great Depression. These figures are
dreadful for a modern administration and represent the fourth-worst GDP
numbers for any president in U.S. history so far.

And finally, American median household income still has not recovered
to pre-2008 levels of approximately $57,500, adjusted for inflation.
This means that the multi-decade trend of most Americans’ incomes
stagnating or falling has simply continued.

The above numbers, along with the amount of deaths from foreign
conflicts (see below), are one of the Obama presidency’s worst legacies.

            Trade

In some senses, U.S. citizens dodged a bullet on trade. Obama was
trying his darndest to pass the Transpacific Partnership (TPP), the
Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), the Trade in
Services Agreement (TISA) and other free-trade agreements before his
term was up. In the time since Bill Clinton was president and signed the
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), nearly one-third of all
            American manufacturing jobs have disappeared.

If any of the above deals went through, even more jobs would have
left the country, and a few select billionaires would have gotten richer
while more Americans would be out of work. In addition, U.S. citizens
would be forced to accept lower quality standards for food, drugs and
consumer goods imported from other countries.

Obama got as far as passing fast-track authority for TPP in Congress,
but wasn’t able to corral the votes for getting the actual agreement
itself passed after Trump won the election. Thank goodness; Trump
announced that the TPP would be killed on his first day in office.

            Jobs

After the financial crisis of 2008, the economy tanked and millions
of Americans lost their jobs. According to Obama’s own first Secretary
of Labor, as many as one in three American men (out of approximately 96
million people total not participating in the workforce) is still out of
work due to the greatly diminished recovery that Obama’s administration
has tried to portray as fully fledged.

In fact, Obama’s nearly endless trumpeting of rosy job numbers in the
last four years of his presidency (when official unemployment fell from
8 percent to under 5 percent) was based on fudged numbers given by the
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). When one looks at official data and
charts, there are asterisks next to the most recent years due to changes
in the way the BLS calculates its figures.

Another issue is that even if people have gotten jobs, as many as 94
percent of them are from part-time work in what many euphemistically
call “the gig economy” (read: low-paying service-sector jobs). If one
becomes a waiter when one used to be a union card-carrying factory
worker, almost surely a pay cut is involved.

            Immigration

One of the reasons why job numbers and wages were so bad was because
of illegal immigration during Obama’s two terms. Throughout Obama’s time
in office, the number of illegal immigrants in the country remained
roughly 11 million, or 3.5 percent of the country’s population.

But the number of illegals in the nation’s workforce is roughly 8
million, or 5 percent of those working or looking for work; the laws
regarding employers hiring these people are not strict enough. Even with
legal immigration, quotas on foreign-born H1-B visa laborers (currently
at 85,000 per year) allow many transplants from other countries to grab
high-tech jobs that could otherwise go to American workers.

In the very worst cases, employers such as Disney and Toys R Us laid
off Americans who had to train their less-well-paid foreign-born
replacements. And to make matters worse, before the presidential
election, both Hillary Clinton and Obama were promising to boost H1-B
visa numbers even higher, which would have resulted in yet more job
losses. This was likely due to billionaires such as Mark Zuckerberg and
Larry Page donating millions of dollars to Democratic campaigns, such as
            the one for Hillary Clinton.

Not only were immigrants a threat on the job front, they were and
still are a threat on the security front. High-profile shootings in San
Bernardino, California; Orlando, Florida and elsewhere left dozens of
Americans dead from Islamic radicals who were followers of ISIS. Despite
the obvious danger, Obama and Clinton wanted to vastly increase the
number of Middle Eastern and other dangerous refugees into a system that
            has extremely poor vetting.

            Foreign Conflicts

Why were all these immigrants leaving these Middle Eastern countries?
It could very well be because the United States was bombing them. At
least in the case of Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Syria, Afghanistan and
Pakistan, this was the case. In Syria alone, U.S. support for the
“moderate rebel” opposition helped result in more than 400,000 civilian
deaths, while tens of thousands more innocent people along with U.S.
troops died in at least six other countries while Obama was in office.
U.S. Special Forces are currently deployed in 134 countries globally, a
            123 percent increase under Obama.

Of course, the Obama administration claims we were on the right side
in all these conflicts, but foreign policy has not been Obama’s strong
suit. Many analysts attribute the formation of ISIS to Obama’s pulling
out of Iraq too early. Obama also released and transferred hundreds of
prisoners from the U.S. facilities at Guantanamo Bay. At least a few of
these prisoners have rejoined jihad movements to once again threaten the
            lives of U.S. soldiers.

            Race Relations

Obama loves to talk about race and how the country needs to improve
race relations. But under Obama’s policies and encouragement of social
justice protesting by groups like Black Lives Matter, this improvement
is not happening. Actually, in most cases, it’s just making matters
            worse.

In fact, it’s arguable that race relations now are rougher than
they’ve been at any point in the last 20 to 30 years, as high-profile
police brutality and murder cases have been covered seemingly nonstop by
the media. From the death of Trayvon Martin in 2012 to the deaths of
Eric Garner and Michael Brown in 2014 to the death in custody of Sandra
Bland in 2015, protests and anti-police violence have claimed the lives
            of brave police officers.

With each case, Obama has reminded Americans of how deep the divide
is rather than attempting to heal the fissures that exist. He also has
sought to undermine people’s faith in local police forces and said that
protesting police action is a positive step. This ties in with:

            Crime and Murder Rates

Something not spoken about much regarding the Obama administration is
how much crime — especially the murder rate — has gone up during this
time. The murder rate in the 25 largest cities across the nation went up
by 11 percent from 2015 to 2016 and is set to rise again for 2016.

In Obama’s hometown of Chicago, the data is even worse. For 2016, the
homicide rate was 715 deaths, with 4379 people shot last year, an
increase of 59 percent from 2015 when 2996 people were shot and 447
died. Whether one can point the finger at the outgoing president
specifically for this surge is admittedly debatable, but certainly, the
dreadful economy played a part in this new crime trend, which Obama has
grudgingly agreed with, mentioning “pockets of poverty that are highly
            segregated” in a recent interview.

          12. Morton99 says

You asked, so let me tell you.
The recession of 2008 took years to happen. Both parties are to blame but most of all a Congress that would not make hard choices because they were afraid that as the messenger of bad news they would lose their seats. America and many Americans were on a credit binge. We were pumping too much money into the economy through the fractional reserve system (where the banks essentially create money as long as they hold a percentage ofequal to what they printed as collateral in case of a draw on funds. A percentage – and a lot less than was circulated. The theory was that future values would increase over time and that this printed money was a sort of IOU. Well government overspent massively on the military and several wars including Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq – and the Vietnam war was stil being paid for. Just Afganistan and Iraq up until 2008 is estimated to have cost more than $ 5 trillion. And that did not include the money needed for veterans, or the replacement of ordinance etc due to active wars.

So the lid came off triggered by a reckless scheme to enhance mortgage backed security returns, called credit default swaps. By 1988 Wall St calculated that far more securities had been sold than there was actually a physical property. When the leverage was flattened out that was another $ 5 trillion dollars of worthless paper.

Obama came into office as all of this was basically crashing all around him. The bankruptcies continued through most of his first year in office until they began to get a handle on it.

Social Security still had to be paid. Medicare and all the services that government is there to manage. Additionally millions of people were out of work and needed help and health coverage.

Over the next three years corporations ran strict budgets, laid of unnecessary workers and then came the first change that would prove to make the recession very hard to completely recover from.

They discovered two things – (the corporations did). Automation was cheaper than human labor, and skilled labor was cheaper in Asia, and later, Mexico and Central America..

Since we are a capitalist nation it was not politically possible to prevent corporations from doing what they did best – make the best product at the lowest price and thus the greatest profit.

Several efforts were made to create a government assisted labor market but that met huge opposition in Congress from conservatives.

There was already a problem that exists today. The renovated corporate networks did not need unskilled American workers, they need much more skilled workers. Currently there are ore than 6 million high salaried jobs unfilled in the USA.

Now I have given you the basic facts and you are welcome to check them out. Most of the jobs that disappeared will never come back – that is the corporations don’t need them.

Now there are solutions, but they are hard and they will ot be popular with everyone. Nr, Trump does not have those solutions which is why he is so evasive, so unwilling to detail his ideas, so unwilling to reveal his business interests, and so needing to attack anyone who disagrees with him..

          13. pineapple says

“The recession of 2008 took years to happen. Both parties are to blame..”

The housing boom collapsed and caused the 2008 recession. The housing boom was caused by the Affordable Housing Act which was pushed by Jimmy Carter and by Bill Clinton. Clinton threatened to sue banks who would not grant mortgage loans to those who could not repay the loans. He threatened to sue them for discrimination and to block them from building more branches.

So banks began giving loans to people who didn’t even have a job.
These loans were sold to Fannie Mae who bundled them and sold them to investment firms on Wall Street as investment grade securities.

When borrowers began to default, these securities became virtually worthless, causing a collapse of the housing market and a recession.

Democrats, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, and Chris

Dodd were the main cause of this debacle, but RINOs did nothing to stop it.

So you are right that both parties were to blame, However, Democrats were the most to blame.

No, that was what you were told to believe. Its total nonsense of course but Wall St desperately attempted to divert blame. That nonsense has been totally debunked now – and to date the worst banking offenders have already npaid more than $ 200 million in fines – a pittnace for what they cause …

Obama by the Numbers: Is America Better Off Now than When Obama took Office?

            1

          19. kbmiller says

I completely agree. I think they are trolls paid by Soros or David Brock. Why else would they expose such ignorance?

          20. ABO says

          21. kbmiller says

Labor force participation rate 62 % . Those are stats from ex pres. Ohomo’s Dept of Labor, not mine. Try to distort that stat.

          22. Mike says

You really do not know how what any of those statistics mean do you? Yes that percentage is only about 62%, but the number is going to be lower going forward for reasons no president, not even Trump can control. This number is the total percentage of people age 16 years of age or older either employed or unemployed (actively seeking work). So this number is influenced by the unemployment rate, but is also influenced by several factors:

            1. The aging of baby boomers. A lower percentage of older Americans choose to work than those who are middle-aged. And so as baby boomers approach retirement age, it lowers the labor force participation rate.

            2) A decline in working women. The labor force participation rate for men has been declining since the 1950s. But for a couple decades, a rapid rise in working women more than offset that dip. Women’s labor force participation exploded from nearly 34 percent in 1950 to its peak of 60 percent in 1999. But since then, women’s participation rate has been “displaying a pattern of slow decline.”

            3) More young people are going to college. The Bureau of Labor Statistics stated, “Because students are less likely to participate in the labor force, increases in school attendance at the secondary and college levels and, especially, increases in school attendance during the summer, significantly reduce the labor force participation rate of youths.”
So again the labor participation rate is correct it is not necessarily inappropriate nor will it see much of a major change in the coming years under President Trump.

          23. kbmiller says

Stats. say it hovered around 67 – 68 % for decades before EX pres. OHOMO. 5 over 67.5 is a 7% decrease.Nice job Bath House Barry.

          24. Morton99 says

What does that mean to you ?
Republicans have tried to temper the latest jobs report — which showed a gain of nearly 300,000 jobs and the unemployment rate dipping to 5.5 percent — by noting that the labor force participation rate has continued to decline. But in at least two instances, the claims have gone too far.
Sen. Lindsey Graham said the labor participation rate “is at an all-time low.” That’s not accurate. It was lower between 1948 and 1978.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus blamed the shrinking participation rate on “the Obama economy,” but economists say most of the decline, which has been happening for more than a decade, is due to demographics, including the trend of baby boomers reaching retirement age and deciding to no longer work.
In a town hall speech in South Carolina on the day the jobs report was released, President Obama pointed to the job growth and declining unemployment rate as evidence that “we’re in much better shape now than we were six years ago.”
The same day, RNC Chairman Priebus issued a statement warning that the “unemployment rate masks the low labor force participation rate” and said that “in the Obama economy” the “percentage of Americans in the labor force has shrunk to levels not seen since the 1970s.”
Priebus, March 6: We also can’t forget that the unemployment rate masks the low labor force participation rate. Too many Americans have given up and stopped looking for work altogether. In fact, in the Obama economy the percentage of Americans in the labor force has shrunk to levels not seen since the 1970s.

That message was echoed by Sen. Graham two days later on NBC’s Meet the Press, when he said, “I think that the labor participation rate is at an all-time low.”
The labor force participation rate, as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, is “the percentage of the population [16 years and older] that is either employed or unemployed (that is, either working or actively seeking work).” Graham, who is considering running for president, is wrong about the rate being at an all-time low. However, as Priebus said, it is at its lowest point since the 1970s — 1978 to be exact.
The following graph from BLS shows the civilian labor force participation rate between 1948 and 2015. As the graph shows, the participation rate in February 2015 (62.8 percent) is the lowest since March 1978. But the rate was lower than that every month between 1948 and 1978.

The low point — according to historical data going back to 1948 — came in December 1954, when the rate was 58.1 percent.
As for Priebus tying the participation rate to the “Obama economy,” there’s more to that story as well. The labor force participation rate has been declining for more than a decade, and economists predict it will continue to decline for the next decade and more.
Consider a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics issued in November 2006, more than two years before Obama took office and before the start of the Great Recession. It pegged the start of the decline in participation rates at around 2000, and projected the decline would continue for the next four decades.
Bureau of Labor Statistics, November 2006: Every year after 2000, the rate declined gradually, from 66.8 percent in 2001 to 66.0 percent in 2004 and 2005. According to the BLS projections, the overall participation rate will continue its gradual decrease each decade and reach 60.4 percent in 2050.

Among the reasons cited for the trend:
            1) The aging of baby boomers.
As BLS noted, “Because students are less likely to participate in the labor force, increases in school attendance at the secondary and college levels and, especially, increases in school attendance during the summer, significantly reduce the labor force participation rate of youths.”
So no matter who was president, and independent of the health of the economy, BLS projected in 2006 that labor force participation rates were going to go down.
But it’s also true that the decline has been even steeper than projected. For example, in that 2006 report, BLS projected the participation rate would decline to 64.5 percent in 2020. It’s already 1.7 percentage points below that in 2015.
According to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office in February 2014, “[T]he unusually low rate of labor force participation in recent years is attributable to three principal factors: long-term trends, especially the aging of the population; temporary weakness in employment prospects and wages; and some longer-term factors attributable to the unusual aspects of the slow recovery of the labor market, including persistently low hiring rates.”
CBO estimated that between the end of 2007 (a year before Obama took office) and the end of 2013, about half of the decline in participation rates could be pegged to long-term demographic trends, about a third to “temporary weakness in employment prospects and wages,” and about a sixth to “unusual aspects of the slow recovery.”

Try reading my post – you will see that I referred to the 94 million figure that you claim is of people who are seeking work. Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad (BNSF) owns all of the rail lines in the U.S. that connect to western Canada, and they haul 80% of the crude from Canada to the Midwest and Texas, or charge other Short Line railroads a fee to use their tracks.

BNSF charges $30 per barrel to haul the oil, while the Keystone Pipeline would cost $10 per barrel by the State Department’s own estimates. BNSF is owned by Berkshire Hathaway whose chairman is Warren Buffet.

In the last two elections cycles, Buffet gave extensively to democrat causes and candidates. He also bundled and hosted numerous fund raisers for Obama. If anyone believes that the Keystone Pipeline isn’t being blocked by Obama on buffet’s behalf, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Buffet could stand to lose $2 billion a year if the pipeline is constructed. He makes the same amount every year that the pipeline is delayed.

      5. Norman says

Who is going to impeach PRESIDENT Trump? The demonicRATs that do NOT control either chamber of Congress?

      6. pineapple says

There are already oil lines traversing the U.S., and have been for years. Obama was against the oil line from Canada because his sugar daddy Warren Buffet owns the railroads that haul the oil now, and Buffet was a big Obama donor.

Also, when these trains wreck, the damage is as bad or worse than when a pipeline bursts.

        1. ABO says

And for all of you DUMB @SS LIBERALS who are still in favor of the TPP, even your own candidate for POTUS, Hillary Rotten Clinton changed HER MIND on the TPP being such a WONDERFUL IDEA for the USA!!!!

    1. Mike says

this move by president trump has the ability to hurt us far more than help us long term. nafta did cause us to lose some jobs so we should be cautious, but the TPP will now move forward without us, but with China in charge. economically they are our rival so letting them shape economic policy in a huge part of the world is not a good decision.

      1. Junior1950 says

Another DUMB @SS liberal troll!! Go to a liberal website where your stupidity will be appreciated!!

        1. Mike says

try to read a few articles about the situation or have some basic economic knowledge. I am not saying the TPP shouldn’t be modified, but to pull out of it completely is not good economic policy and can hurt us down the road.

          1. OldHighlandGuyOne says

So tell us exactly HOW it will hurt us down the road. Don’t just spout BS, gives us facts and figures. By the way, I love what Pineapple did up above.

            SO DO I

          3. Mike says

There are no hard figures. just as there are no hard figures this deal would damage the United States. I understand the caution we should have as a nation, but now that we have pulled out China will step in and they will be able to put in place their ideals for trade in that growing market. This was a chance for us as a country to lead instead we have retreated and China will step in and fill that void. China is our greatest economic rival and I believe we should try to dictate and be the leader in Asia economically as much as we can. Instead we are taking ourselves out of the equation.
I agree I don’t have any hard figures and neither does anyone stating it would be damaging for us as a country.

China’s multiple barriers to American products

        Howard Richman, 4/1/2010

The latest statistics released on March 18 by the BEA show that
for every $1 that the United States bought from China in 2009, the
Chinese government only let its people buy 28¢ of American products.
Although the Chinese economy was growing by 8.7%, the Chinese government
managed to shrink Chinese imports of American goods and services.

        The 2010 National Trade Estimate
(NTE) released on March 31 by the Office of the United States Trade
Representative explains how the Chinese government kept out American
products. Although the report ignored China’s currency manipulations,
which raise the cost of all American goods and services in China by
somewhere between 25-40%, it still found plenty to talk about. Currency
exchange rate manipulation is only one of the many ways that the Chinese
government keeps out American products. The report focused upon the
Chinese government’s expert use of tariff and non-tariff barriers.

        Tariffs

The Chinese government imposes high tariffs upon many American products. The report states:

China still maintains high duties on some products that
compete with sensitive domestic industries. For example, the tariff on
large motorcycles is 30 percent. Likewise, most video, digital video,
and audio recorders and players still face duties of approximately 30
percent. Raisins face duties of 35 percent. (p. 60)

        Selective Use of VAT

According to the report, China makes selective use of its Value-Added Tax to keep out American phosphate fertilizer:

In 2001, China began exempting all phosphate fertilizers
except diammonium phosphate (DAP) from the VAT. DAP, a product that the
United States exports to China, competes with other phosphate
fertilizers produced in China, particularly monoammonium phosphate. (p.
        60)

        Procurement Directives

The report points out that China makes use of procurement directives to keep out American telecommunication equipment:

There have been continuing reports of the Ministry of
Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and China Telecom adopting
policies to discourage the use of imported components or equipment. For
example, MIIT has reportedly still not rescinded an internal circular
issued in 1998 instructing telecommunications companies to buy
components and equipment from domestic sources. (p. 60)

QIPs to Keep Out Agricultural Goods

The report points out that the Chinese government uses Quarantine
Inspection Permits (QIPs) to keep out American agricultural products,
causing costly delays while they sit on the docks:

China’s inspection and quarantine agency, the General Administration
of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), and MOFCOM
have imposed inspection-related requirements that have led to
restrictions on imports of many U.S. agricultural goods….

Because of the commercial necessity to contract for commodity
shipments when prices are low, combined with the inherent delays in
having QIPs issued, many cargos of products such as soybeans, meat, and
poultry arrive in Chinese ports without QIPs, creating delays in
discharge and resulting in demurrage bills for Chinese purchasers. In
addition, traders report that shipments often are closely scrutinized
and are at risk for disapproval if they are considered too large in
        quantity.(pp. 63-64)

        Restricting Market Access to Services.

America has a wide variety of financial and insurance services that
American companies could market in China, but the Chinese government
simply restricts market access. The report states:

China imposes restrictions in a number of services sectors
that prevent or discourage foreign suppliers from gaining or further
        expanding market access. (p.70)

Keeping out Genuine Materials while they are Pirated

American DVD movies and PC games are quite popular in China. However,
American companies rarely get any sales. The report states:

An exacerbating factor contributing to China’s poor IPR
protection has been China’s maintenance of restrictions on the right to
import and distribute legitimate copyright-intensive products, such as
theatrical films, DVDs, music, books, newspapers, and journals. These
restrictions impose burdens on legitimate, IPR-protected goods and delay
their introduction into the market. These burdens and delays faced by
legitimate products create advantages for infringing products and help
to ensure that those infringing products continue to dominate markets
        within China. (p. 71)

        Demanding American R&D and Patents

The report briefly mentions China’s most recent escalation, its November requirement that American corporations move their R&D and patents to China:

In order to qualify as “indigenous” innovation under the
accreditation system, and therefore be entitled to procurement
preferences, a product’s intellectual property must originally be
        registered in China. (p. 69)

In short, the United States government is letting the Chinese
government practice mercantilism, the strategy of maximizing exports and
minimizing imports. We freely receive Chinese imports without requiring
        reciprocity.

It’s time to impose a tariff on Chinese goods proportional to our
trade deficit with China. Such a tariff, permitted by a special WTO rule
for trade-deficit countries, would finally force the Chinese government
be take down its many, many barriers to American goods and services.

        1. ABO says

Well done, pineapple. Mike won’t get a word of it but that’s to be expected as he is a typical liberal lemming, lacking the ability to think for himself, when he sees something truthful and logical he runs and hides from it.

          1. Mike says

Oh good ABO the individual with no facts just insults. Good to see you again. I hope you have a good day.

          2. ABO says

This from the clown that posts made up, bogus “facts and figures” and backs it up with links to bogus “Fact checking” sites that have been debunked over and over and over again. Go whine somewhere else, Dimwit troll.

          3. Mike says

the only fact checking site I have referenced is Politifact which is not and has never been debunked. You as a trumpster have to defend him I understand you lost the ability to think beyond what he tells you. In the Trump world now facts do not matter because we have “alternate facts” as Spicer says like weather reports. Again its ok I realize as a sheeple to Trump you are not able to view a fact without first denying its existence.

          4. ABO says

I must thank you, Mike, as it is deceitful, ill informed lemmings like yourself who heavily populate today’s Democratic Party that are turning reasonable, intelligent people away from the party in droves. Normal, thinking people listen to brainwashed clowns like you and realize that you are turning what used to be the “Party of the People” into the ‘Party of the Elite Globalist”. at the whim of the self absorbed elitists that you follow unquestioningly and without independent thought. Your public buffoonery is what will eventually destroy what was once a great institution in this nation’s diverse history. You and the rest of the paid trolls that post here must be so proud of yourselves. You think it is perfectly alright to get your way through deceit and obfuscation. Well all it proves is what low, unethical uninformed lemmings you are. Again thanks for showing everyone your true colors.

          8. Mike says

a statement is either true or false. politifact just merely reports the truth. trump knows little of the truth. for pineapple he makes some interesting points.

          9. Ted Crawford says

Come now, really? You are right, in one sense, a flat wrong statement can easily be recognized, however an incomplete statement is nearly impossible to detect without specific knowledge!
IE: “The willful taking of a human life is- right/wrong”

          11. Colonel Robert F. Cunningham says

Mike … ABO is absolutely correct …

          12. Mike says

about? that I am a liberal? never denied it. About most other things? he might be but he can never present one fact to back up his points and normally just hurls insults at those he believes are liberals.

          13. Colonel Robert F. Cunningham says

@Mike … Kommrade Hitlery supporter ??? no wonder ABO is so far over your head …

          14. Mike says

You make interesting comments especially about ABO. ABO has never shared anything above anyone’s head as most people can comprehend insults. That is fine we have free speech in this country which if you are a Colonel I appreciate you defending that and all of our other rights for this country. Again thank you for service. Honest question if you are a current or retired serviceman how is the VA? We hear a lot about them in the news, but I have limited first hand knowledge. My grandfather went to the VA and always seemed to have a good experience, but he has been dead 10 years. I was just honestly curious as to what you have experienced and what you would do to fix the problem. the media on this issue is very gloom and doom and if that is appropriate so be it I just don’t always get to hear it from people who are directly impacted by it.

          15. Colonel Robert F. Cunningham says

@Mike, ABO is so far ahead of the ‘liberal/socialist’ pack they don’t even know what he’s talking about. FYI: ALL liberal/socialist ‘mentalities’ always require an expanded version of the Encyclopaedia Britannica to ‘clarify’ “Good Morning!” YOU are a prime example …

“IF” I’m a Colonel? I rest my case of your imbecility …

As for the VA – our local hospital is another TOTALLY UNDERFUNDED operation – THANKS TO JACKASS MARXhu Akbar, Kommrade Oblivit, Kommrade Hitlery & Kompanies – that is absolute SALT OF THE EARTH to the patients !!!

The DAV downtown at 500 Gold, Albuquerque, are Bastards That Be who need stood against a wall of dung for their deliberate jackass aforethought “Delay and Deny Until They Die!” … and YES, I can and will document …

I hope that explains “how I would fix the problem” without expending any more money than would be absolutely necessary, specifically at the price of dung these days …

          16. Mike says

I am sorry if I offended you. as you can see most of the names on here are not real names unless ABO is his real name or another poster is called pineapple so I was not sure if you were in fact military. I am sorry the VA is being underfunded. I am unsure why you only place the blame at the feet of President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Congress creates the budgets and spending bills which the President then signs or vetoes. the initial legislation to help better fund the VA in 2014 was stopped by Republicans. The bill would then pass later in 2015 for an additional approximately 80 billion earmarked for the VA.
again though the decision on how much to fund the VA is done by both parties but you seem to only have anger towards Democrats. They should absolutely share the blame, but to solely blame them for the failures of the VA is not appropriate.

          17. Colonel Robert F. Cunningham says

@Mike … I follow both ABO and pineapple … we don’t always agree on specific details but I’ve NEVER found either to be frivolous or false … hard-core no ifs, ands, buts or maybes about the FACTS or the TRUTH even if sometimes of different perspectives … I don’t know if either follows me, it’s of no importance …

As for the Kommrade Bastards That Be, I do NOT excuse the Kommrade RINOs starting with that phony ‘hero’ John McCain …

There’s one hell of a media effort going on right now, since Kommrade McCain and Kommrade Graham were BOTH exposed as having accepted money from the Kommrade Hitlery organization to resist President Trump, to rescue the career of McCain’s daughter – Meghan Marguerite McCain – at FAUX News & Propaganda …

As for said Kommrade Bastards That Be, the Kommrade RINOs are no less guilty and complicit in their damnations against the Veterans and I NEVER let them forget it !!!

          18. Mike says

I agree with on pineapple I don’t agree with him all the time but he provides facts for his arguments. ABO has never once provided a fact when engaging with me. He just spouts off about liberals being the problem etc, but never even when asked provides facts.
As for your assertion that John McCain and Lindsey Graham accepted money from Hillary Clinton where did you get that from? I cannot find any evidence of it. Can you provide a link or some other proof of that?
Also who are the RINO’s to you? I am just curious because with the previous VA post John McCain actually voted for the funding, it was more conservation individuals in the Senate such as Ted Cruz who initially blocked the funding.
Again thank you for your services and please provide the facts for the claims about John McCain and Senator Graham as that would be fascinating to learn more about.

I don’t need to deal with a low life like you when I can communicate with honest, intelligent gentlemen like pineapple and Colonel Cunningham.

          20. Mike says

ABO you have never once given me any link- yes you gave me a website once claiming it was factual when the article you gave me was an editorial which by its nature is not a fact but an opinion. Outside of that one time you have used your time to hurl insults at me and others because you disagree with us, but no you do not give any facts or evidence to back up your statements.

          21. ABO says

I gave you the same link to Investors’ Business Daily and you’re still lying about it, saying I never gave you that link. Yes, it was an editorial as I had pointed out that there were no legitimate, verifiable numbers out to support either side so I posted a link to a fair and unbiased site providing their informed opinion on the subject. It’s all there for anyone to see, but you seem to be utterly incapable of dealing with the truth and so invariably lie. As far as the insults, you’ve earned them over and over again. Try the truth just for once, you might like it, although I tend to doubt it.

Excellent Pineapple. This is great. My question is how does taking ourselves away from the bargaining table for a huge section of the world’s economy help? How does allowing China to place its own economic needs on the TPP with no US involvement help the US long term? The TPP is still moving forward. its not dead, we are just not a part of it which is not in our best interests especially since the TPP in part was addressing issues such as intellectual property rights. When you are not a part of the discussion you allow others to dictate economic policy for years to come. that is where I believe the mistake is.

          1. Deplorable wizard says

            Mike,
            Re read the article!
The President, a very successful businessman, explained that there was improper balance and therefore the he deal was withdrawn on behalf of the U.S. The article even discusses plans to renegotiate both NAFTA and the TPP, with a more equitable distribution of profit.

It’s simple; the left brokered a deal that sucked for the U.S. and benefited China immensely, because of two reasons. First, economically the lefts agenda is to reduce the middle class, there is ample proof of this in multiple areas of their agenda, not just trade. Second, Chinese communism is extremely attractive to the progressive idealists, who are completely ignorant to the cultural differences at the base levels of society, ours vs theirs. The political elite on the left, with their grandiose vision of utopian socialism, forget that we Americans thrive on freedom and independence , where thousands of years of cultural and societal norms in China have removed most of those aspects from the general populous.

            It’s like apples and oranges.

The lefts ideal is giving them a dollar and them giving us 50 cents back.

What is wrong with the trade deal being even, dollar for dollar?

          2. Mike says

First off China was not involved in the TPP, but by pulling out of the deal China is now offering to step in and have a deal with these nations which would of course not favor the US but will favor China. China is an economic superpower and becoming our equal and when we give them openings like this they will exploit them and we risk being left further behind when China calls all the shots in agreements such as the TPP.

          3. Deplorable wizard says

            Mike,
China, though not listed among the charter nations that were signatories of the deal, stood to make the most on the deal. This was seen to in the fine print and the main reason the left fought so hard for it. There were also jobs in the deal, more jobs leaving the U.S. for places like Vietnam, Malawi, ect. You think it’s tough understanding a Slumdog in Calcutta? Try figuring out how to deal in Malawian.

The Chinese were an integral part of the TPP, it was on the “tariffs”, “non-tariff”, trading alliance that was meant to open doors wide for Chinese business.

Do you honestly believe that such a powerful trade deal on their doorstep did not include them? Really?

Loose the blinders, we are tired of saving you sheeple from yourselves.

          4. Mathew Molk says

Look fool, China is calling NO shots against President Trump, and when he gets done with them if they want to do business with us at all it we will get the upper end of the balance of trade.

          5. pineapple says

Trump favors bi-lateral trade agreements, and I agree. Consider the U.N. which is a multi-lateral pact for which the U.S. gets stuck with most of the bills, because the other parasite countries won’t pay their fair share of costs.

The U. N. debacle is similar to the NATO pact where, again, the US. gets stuck with paying most of the cost because other countries won’t pay their promised portion of the cost.

The U.S. is about 20 trillion dollars in debt, and can not afford to be the sugar daddy to all these other parasite countries, no to mention the cost of illegal aliens flooding the U.S.($113 billion per year) See the article below.

It is no secret that the southern U.S. border is open, allowing
thousands of people to pour into the country illegally. Ironically,
Congressmen on both sides of the aisle in Washington are not inclined or
don’t have the will to do anything about it. Although most support
legal immigration, there are huge differences on how each side believes
illegal immigrants and the security of our borders should be handled.

            Liberals
generally support amnesty for those that enter the U.S. illegally.
They also believe that ―undocumented immigrants‖ should have all the
educational and health benefits that citizens receive including
financial aid, welfare, social security, and Medicaid.

            Conservatives
are against amnesty for those who enter the U.S. illegally. They
believe that those who break the law by entering the U.S. illegally do
not have the same rights as those who enter legally and obey the law.
They also believe that the Federal Government should do a better job
            enforcing current immigration laws.

            Whether you call them
―illegal immigrants‖ or you call them ―undocumented immigrants, the
undisputed fact remains that when a person crosses the border without
the proper authority, he/she is breaking U.S. immigration law. Just to
be clear, there may be some immigrants that had green cards (or other
legal authority) that either did not renew or replace an expired or lost
card. This would be analogous to someone who let their driver‘s
license expire and then proceeded to drive a car. They would be doing
so illegally. Nevertheless, to put all illegal immigrants into the
            undocumented immigrant category is ludicrous.

            It is estimated
that there are between 11 and 30 million illegal immigrants in the
country and that they account for 13.6% of all crime in the United
States. No matter where you stand on this issue, the facts show that
the direct and indirect financial costs are enormous. The following
2013 statistics were extracted from the website fairus.org.1 Illegal
immigration costs U.S. taxpayers about $113 billion a year at the
federal, state and local level. Most of the costs (around $84 billion)
are absorbed by state and local governments. That amounts to an average
of $1,117 per household. The variance per household is higher or lower
depending on the demographics of illegal alien populations. Education
costs absorbed by state and local governments are estimated at $52
billion annually. Although illegal immigrants that work are required to
pay income tax, most don’t. Those that do get much of it refunded
because they are in such a low income bracket.
            According to the
Bureau of Economic Analysis, illegal immigrants residing in the U.S.
send $50 billion back to their home countries each year.2 When you
include legal immigrants, The World Bank estimates the amount to be $120
billion.3 That is money that is not put back into the U.S. Economy.

            According
to National Review, $1.87 billion was spent in 2014 on incarcerating
illegal criminal immigrants.4 In 2009; the Department of Homeland
Security estimated the percentage of illegal immigrants that are
incarcerated to be between 11 and 15 percent of the country’s prison
population.5 Almost all the financial burden was shouldered by the
states. The State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), which is a
federally funded program, does pay for some cost.6 However, it does
not really matter because it all comes out of taxpayer dollars.

            The
Government Accountability Office (GAO), using official Department of
Justice data on criminal immigrants in the nation‘s correctional system,
reported the following: – Between 2008 and 2014, 40% of all murder
convictions in Florida were by criminal immigrants. In New York it was
34% and Arizona 17.8%. In addition, during those years, criminal
immigrants accounted for 38% of all murder convictions in the five
states of California, Texas, Arizona, Florida and New York.7 That 38%
represents 7,085 murders out of the total of 18,643.

            It gets
worse: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) removed (deported)
235,413 criminal illegal immigrants nationwide in 2015, 49% percent of
whom had previously been convicted of a criminal offense.8 Although the
numbers are down since 2012, they are still substantial. Do the
reduced numbers mean that there are less illegal immigrants coming into
the country or does it mean that ICE has less resources to do their job
or does it mean they are told to stand down? In 2013 and 2014 ICE set
free more than 66,000 illegal immigrant criminals who had over
            166,000
convictions (30,000 for drunk or drug impaired driving, 414
kidnappings, over 11,000 rapes or other sexual assaults, and 395
homicides).9 Since their release, many of those have already been
convicted of new crimes including felonies.

            It gets worse: The
invasion of illegal immigrants has established and empowered many in the
form of street gangs. Their growth is fueled by money obtained easily
through drug smuggling and sales. A 2011 FBI report makes many
connections between the Mexican drug cartels and various U.S.based
gangs.10 An out of hand financial and social disruption cost to
American citizens just continues to grow.

            To make matters worse
yet: Laws in sanctuary cities help shield illegal immigrants from
deportation, despite astonishing statistics on violent crimes committed
by illegal immigrants. These laws, in many cases, are in direct
opposition to Federal immigration laws. Sadly, the U.S. Senate refuses
to crack down on America‘s nearly 300 sanctuary cities.
            A 2014
Reuters article stated that a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that 70% of
Americans are deeply worried that illegal immigration is threatening the
nation‘s culture and economy.11 Concerns include job losses, the
social landscape, how much insurance costs rise, and other related
            issues.
Since illegal immigrants typically take low skill, low paying
jobs, it would be logical to surmise that some portion of those jobs
are being taken away from legal immigrants. When that happens, few good
choices remain for them. They are usually left with the choice to go
back to their home country, get some kind of aid, or enter a life of
            crime.

Illegal immigration is totally out of control and our
elected leaders know it. Securing the borders and fixing the illegal
immigration problem should be demanded by the American people.
Unfortunately, only about six percent of the population thinks it is a
major problem (a sharp decline since 2014). They are either not aware
of the enormity of the issue or they are more concerned about other
            issues.

The social landscape is rapidly changing and it puts all
legal citizens at risk for the security of their families and homes. As
a consequence, it reduces their choices as to where they live, shop,
            and travel.

Great post! Our school system in Kentucky keeps growing, mostly due to immigration and refugees. Most are Bosnian, Hispanics, Burma, etc. Our town is a refugee hub. Apartments are built for refugees and only refugees. Schools are overcrowded and school taxes are rising again.
Nobody has the guts to admit the refugees and immigration is the cause.
As a working taxpayer, seeing many of these newcomers driving $30,000 cars, whipping out a food stamp card and dressing like their upper class makes my blood boil.
By one Bosnian restaurant, there is always a Mercedes, BMW, hummer parked there when I drive by.
Bosnians have taken over the local truck driving, with hundreds of not a thousand Bosnian llc’s in the county. Bet uncle Sam helped them buy their trucks. One side swiped my wife on I65, luckily little damage, no injuries, he paid cash for the damage after we finally tracked him down from his info given.

        3. Morton99 says

Yes what you report is true, the Chinese government limits the amount of foreign currency its people may use for consumption. So do most nations in fact. But you fail to report how this is balanced. As the owner of the only global Fiat currency – the USA fixes the value of its USD by means of issuing Treasury bills. Effectively, since all currencies are valued against the USD, we export our debt to foreign owners of our government issued bonds. Since they cannot trade without either euros or USD, effectively we have them over a barrel. Now the euro is also dependent upon very large deposits of US dollars. You see no trading nation will accept renminbi or rubles as payment for their goods – those currencies are not considered as stable as ours. That is why China is forced to own $2+ trillion of US securities just in order to collateralize its own payments to other nationms.

Mike has to remember that a lot of workers are hired to only work less than the 40 hours or whatever so they don’t get any benefits. So if you only work 30 hours it will take 4 people to do a 3 man work shift and the wages are a lot less for the higher ups so the economy is shrinking.

          2. Mr Rollo says

My wife had to drop her Obamacare as it cost $800. a month.

      2. John says

Unemployment is above that now if they counted all the people not working and cannot collect unemployment benefits for their time is up. He only counted the ones collecting to keep his percentage down

        1. Jan123456 says

There are multiple unemployment rates (U1-U6), but the one reported on the first Friday of each month (U3) has had a consistent methodology for years if not decades. Obama had nothing to do with that methodology. You appear to believe that the BLS reports merely for political purposes. However, the financial markets, employers, fed monetary policy all look to the accuracy and consistency of these numbers. If they were being manipulated, those folks would find out and scream well before you and I would.

          1. Mike says

Jan you and I know this, but let him put up his other numbers along with the supporting data. The official statistics stopped being useful when President Obama started saving the economy then how we have measured the unemployment rate for years was no longer valid to the right.

          2. Jan123456 says

Oh Mike….you gotta be kidding. Trump can (and has….I think at one point it was 42%) put up any numbers he pulls out of his butt. But actual supporting data? When has that ever occurred to him?

Trump and his supporters only believe in “alt-facts”….words that are consistent with their confirmation bias.

          3. Mr Rollo says

            You are communist.

          4. Mr Rollo says

            Communist.

          5. Jan123456 says

            Gee…what a intellectually complex rebuttal.

Mental midgets like you are why Trump got elected. You only respond to ad hominem attacks.

        2. Mike says

Please share a source and what you believe are the actual unemployment rates.

      3. kbmiller says

        Eat $hit instead.

  8. Rock J. Dueck says

I’m very impressed. First a president who does what he said he’d do. Second, he does them quickly. I hope next he pulls out of that unelected, socialist, quasi-communist organization called the United Nations before they do any more damage.

    1. John Somers says

Hot only get US out of it but get it OUT of OUR Country completely WE the PEOPLE don’t need all their “Diplomatic Immunity whenever they get a parking ticket or commit a violent crime.

    2. John says

Also he keeps bringing up the votes in November. He wants to have voted ID approved NOW for I knew people who told me that thy voted at different locations on the same day for Obo and Hillary. This has to stop NOW

  9. Ernesto S Rodriguez says

Mr. President, so far so good! Inspiring to see a US President that understands business and how to deal in the International Arena!!!????????✝??

  10. TCMrick says

This is the first positive decision for American workers in at least 8 years. The liberals negotiating treaties about Free Trade and including political agenda has ruined the lives of thousands of American workers. NAFTA was devastating, TPP would’ve been worse unless properly negotiated. I hope union members see that blindly voting Democrat because D’s are pro-labor is wrong. Hubert Humphrey was the last D for labor. Today the D party is led by “progressive radicals” who don’t know who or what labor is..

    1. John says

I remember Obo stating that he would not pass any bills that included items not related to that bill. In other words if they slipped in something for themselves or their friends it would not be signed into law. WHAT HAPPENED

  11. tCotUS says

Finally a President who understand what it takes to make America Great again. #1 Not wasting anytime.
#2 Putting America FIRST… He has done more good in hours/days, than the last bung hole did in 8 years.

    1. John Somers says

WE the PEOPLE FINALLY have a MAN with a set of balls as big as basket balls IN the oval office

      1. tCotUS says

Amen to that John.. Were behind him 100%..

  12. Gary Smith says

Evan Hillary said it was a bad deal

  13. figmo says

Trump has done more good for America in his first couple of days than most typical lead in the ass “politicians” have done in their entire self serving worthless careers. He should stop trying to gather the liberals into his “camp”. They are and always will be his enemies and are seeking to destroy him. That is because they are unamerican and seek only to put their party and one world government first. They are using the confirmation hearings as a substitute for the filibuster by deliberately foot dragging. They can’t use the filibuster because they eliminated it when they had the majority. So President Trump, stop acting as though the libtards are your allies and treat them as your enemies just like you have dealt with the useless 5th column news media.

    1. John says

Lets get some impeachments started against those useless politicians. If not cut their benefits. They are there to work for us and not to sit on their ass and do nothing to collect their pay and enormous benefits.

  14. Gerry Costa says

Good move — next take us out of the UN and throw them out of this country and tell them to go leech off someone else. People like mccain need to do is STFU and crawl back under his demoTRASH/rino rock along with the rest of the rinos.

    1. tCotUS says

I wonder Gerry just how much Tax-Payer Money goes to the UN leeches ?? Not to mention the building that could go for better use. Like maybe a VA National Hospital ??

      1. Gerry Costa says

Researching it —- the answer is nobody really knows. We have 17 different government agencies who contribute to the organizations within the UN which amounts into the billions and we also pay 22% of the UN ‘s operating budget which amounts into the billions. It sounds to me like we have better uses for that money right here in our country rather than give it to a bunch of corrupt leeches . We need to get out of the UN, stop funding them and get them out of NYC.

        1. tCotUS says

Gerry this is difficult to track down. In 2006-07 it was in the billions.
Brief history of the 2006 efforts of Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) to get an authoritative figure on the cost of U.S. support of the U.N. According to the WebMemo, “(i)n its 2006 report, OMB calculated that U.S. contributions to the entire U.N. system actually totaled $4.115 billion in 2004 and $5.327 billion in 2005.” In FY 2009, the U.S. contributed over $6 billion to the U.N. or U.N. organizations.
For 2015-2016:The approved budget for UN Peacekeeping operations for the fiscal year 1 July 2016-30 June 2017 is $7.87 billion. (A/C.5/70/24)
Breakdown is like this..BUT it Does Not include the handouts from our 17 Agencies such as the major contributor EPA !!
          This is ALL TAXPAYER money!

          1.United States (28.57%)
          2.China (10.29%)
          3.Japan (9.68%)
          4.Germany (6.39%)
          5.France (6.31%)
          6.United Kingdom (5.80%)
          7.Russian Federation (4.01%)
          8.Italy (3.75%)
          9.Canada (2.92%)
          10.Spain (2.44%)

  15. Eleanore Whitaker says

We didn’t lose an election that was rigged you fukkhead. It was RIGGED and now you fukkers are trying to pull off yet another COVER UP. Not going to get away with it this shitbags. Rigging an election once is bad…getting away with it using Russians to hack into our DNC voter data is your death sentence for any credibility. Go lick your HUMP’s dick.

        1. carl bebar sr. says

  17. PatriotForever says

It takes a PATRIOT BUSINESS PERSON, not just a business person who could careless about America and it’s Citizenry, not just a Patriot with no knowledge of business, BUT A PERSON who understands how to run a successful business, BALANCE a checkbook, support their employee’s regardless of their salaries and benefits (because I know that’s coming) but someone who understands “HOW TO STAY IN BUSINESS”.
Success is not always possible, but KNOWING HOW TO RECOVER from the LOSS, the Issues, the is the KEY TO SUCCESS

  18. lha says

The problem with “free trade” is that it isn’t free. We buy things from them freely, but they allow nothing American into Mexico. Nothing made in America can be sold in Mexico nor brought in except small items bought in stores by “border Crossers”. Money and jobs go to Mexico,no benefit to us.

  19. Dennis B Anderson says

After world war 11 our country produced alot goods for the rest of the world. Now instead of building and producing, we buy from China. The last 2 spatulas I bought were crap from China that fell apart. I went to a second hand store and bought used american. It really – really works. AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS!

  20. MACVSOG says

    YAAAHOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. GuardianFlame says

President Trump WAS A BUSINESS MAN FIRST WHO WORKED HARD AND who is very successful in the business world! Unlike our previous poor excuse of a president who NEVER WORKED ONE DAY IN HIS LIFE (nor did the majority of his appointed cabinet).

All these agreements (NAFTA, etc.) when broken down, are nothing but glorified business arrangements between countries. Barack had no idea of what he was doing and listened to the wrong people whose only thought was Climate Control, so he pushed that instead of finding a better plan that supported the American people.

As President Trump’s administration grows, you are going to see just how totaly inept and lame barack’s presidency was. It will be difficult for barack to even be in the public eye because people will ridicule him and his poor decisions for our Country. EMBARASSING! If he was smart – and he’s dumb as dirt – he would leave America for some remote village in the Caribbean where no one knows him, have plastic surgery to remove those dumbo ears and wipe that arrogant smirk off his ugly face; and, leave his hair grey, add a paunch hanging over his belt and “Voila” – no one will recognize him until he opens his mouth. Narcissists never learn that they destroy themselves all by themselves!

As for President Trump! BOOYAH! You go P.T.! Get America back in the game with a powerful reputation and even Soros may fill his Depends!

    1. pineapple says

You said better than I could have, and I have a lot of admiration for my sayings.

      1. GuardianFlame says

Hey, great minds think alike! We know what we know and we know what we see, unlike libs who make up their stories as they go along…e.g. barack. I’m just amazed at how absolutely clueless they are about the reality surrounding them.

A friend once described a lib’s ability to be “in the moment”. She said “the libs’ world ends at the end of their nose and consists of the stories their tortured psyches create. It has nothing to do with Reality. And when that “protective bubble” pops, you can hear their fractured psyches screaming in agony.”

And that’s exactly what we are experiencing right now from the Left – screams of agony as each of their “Bubbles” pop and as the President Trump reality slaps them across the face!

  22. curmudgeon VN Veteran says

So refreshing having a real man back in the White House who cares for ALL Americans.

  23. TadhgMcLir says

About freaking time we had an honorable and smart president. Proud to say I voted for him!

  24. NavymanBill says

The TPP was such a bad deal, even HILLARY said she would scrap it. (You can look it up!) This was a bad deal for America. If we have to negotiate deals separately with nations, then that is how it will be. this one was plain out bad for the US, When both candidates can see that, there isn’t much to argue about. Bill Clinton negotiated the NAFTA agreement, and had all his union bosses get behind it. They all did fine, but their people got screwed. Glad it is going to be re-worked. It DID NOT help America or Americans-yeah, cheaper products, but our own people are out of work. Gotta be some adjustments.

    1. pineapple says

I lost my job thanks to NAFTA.

      1. NavymanBill says

P, I understand. I remember when Bill Clinton rolled out NAFTA-I remember a friend-old Union guy-telling me that his union bosses told him and others to vote for it. I was like “Joe, how can this be good for you? It’ll just shift jobs to cheaper places.” He didn’t see it like that and voted for it. He lost his job a year later. He had to retire. A bad deal all around. Trade deals are okay, but Trump is especially right per the Mexicans. They have been screwing America and Americans for years and years. NAFTA brought America very little but lost jobs. TPP -when Trump and Hillary both agreed that it is no good-that says something. Good luck.

  25. snowyriver says

Everything Obama did or signed from his first day was BAD for America. Here are a few facts…
Lets look at our Constitution. Reading (now consider yourself a patriot that just overcame a tyrannical government) You come to article 1, section 8, clause, 10. Congress shall have the power to define and punish offences against The Law of Nations.. Maybe we better read The Law of Nations to see just what power our new Congress has.. So we read The Law of Nations. Pay special attention in book 1, chapter 19, article 212.. After we finish The Law of Nations, we go back to reading the Constitution. Coming to article II, section 1, clause 5, we read that no person except a “natural born Citizen” of the United States shall be eligible for the office of president. Didn’t we read what a “natural born Citizen” was in The Law of Nations? Yes — “born on the land with parents as citizens”.. Note parents and citizens are both plural. Here we have a problem, Obama has produced a birth certificate showing born in Hawaii with a father who was a citizen of Kenya (makes Obama not eligible). .. Oh sorry that birth certificate has been proven to be false, but there is another birth certificate in the British archives filed there by Kenya showing Obama born in Kenya with a father who was a citizen of Kenya.. (makes Obama twice not eligible).. Now does it sound like Barack Obama is a “natural born Citizen” of the United States and eligible to be president? If the answer is no then he is not a legal president of the United States, and everything he has done, every rule of law he has signed are NULL and VOID.

God, I’m going to miss the cheap Chinese disposo tools at Harbor Freight that are identical to the ones that the big box stores sell at 3X the price, but maybe we will be able to to to Lowe’s and Home Depot and find things that are stamped “Made in USA” now.

  28. J A says

Now, we must pull out of the United Nations. To hell with globalism, we were doing just fine before then.

    1. pineapple says

We are footing most of the bill for the U.N. and are being voted against by most of the parasite countries who won’t pay their fair share of the costs

We are also paying our part for NATO while other nations won’t pay what they promised to pay, even though it is for their protection.

We got screwed by NAFTA and would have gotten screwed by T.P.P. if Trump had not nixed it.

We can not afford to support the world when we are $20 trillion in debt.
