Washington D.C. Issues Grand Total of 8 CC Permits

For years, it was entirely against the law to carry a handgun in the nation’s capital. In the home of the U.S. Constitution, the right to bear arms was flagrantly stolen from the citizens of Washington D.C. That changed last September, when, under federal order, the District was forced to change the law. They would begin issuing concealed carry permits. As we begin to see the effects of this law, it is becoming clear that the city is still in violation of the Second Amendment.

Instead of doing the right thing and enacting a “shall issue” policy, the D.C. City Council opted for a restrictive May-Issue policy. Applicants had to prove their need for a handgun in order to get the license. According to officials, simply living or working in a bad neighborhood was not sufficient. Applicants would have to prove a specific threat in order to qualify. Predictably, this policy has resulted in very few licenses being issued. Out of 69 applications, the city has thus far only approved 8 of them. Eight D.C. residents will now be able to carry a concealed weapon. And they believe this satisfies the federal ruling?

11 people have been denied a permit thus far, and the rest are still waiting to see the outcome. City officials such as Council Chairman Phil Mendelson are far from being ashamed of the low numbers. To the contrary, they are beaming with pride. Mendelson, a Democrat, boasts that the city has developed a permit-application process that is among the most restrictive in the United States. “The law was designed to weed out those who don’t have a need to carry.”

Alan Gura, the lawyer who has represented challenges to D.C.’s gun ban, said that the miniscule number of applicants proves that “the process is not constitutional.” In response, Councilman Mendelson said, “He must be thinking that everybody should be able to carry a firearm.”

Hmm, why would he think that? What could possibly lead someone to think that “everybody should be able to carry a firearm?”

Among the restrictions the city has placed on getting a license are a $110 application fee, 18 hours of training, and the aforementioned “need.” Applicants must prove that their lives would be specifically imperiled in order the qualify. With these restrictions in place, it’s actually surprising that they could even find 8 people to qualify for a license.

Washington D.C.’s new mayor, Muriel Bowser, has proclaimed herself a proud member of the anti-gun establishment. “You have a mayor who hates guns,” she told a crowd of supporters earlier this month. “If it was up to me, we wouldn’t have any handguns in the District of Columbia. I swear to protect the Constitution and what the courts say, but I will do it in the most restrictive way possible.”

Ah, doesn’t that just ring with the freedom Americans treasure? I’ll follow the Constitution, but I’m gonna hate every second of it. That’s what we want in our politicians, right? Imagine if she got up there and said that about the First Amendment? “I’ll protect free speech, but only in the most restrictive way possible.” There would be rioting. But since the left has managed to infect the country with anti-gun lies, Bowser’s comments are actually mainstream.

Gura insists that he will continue to challenge the D.C. gun laws in court. One can only hope that federal courts realize that the Constitution is not a document around which politicians should be trying to find every loophole possible. It’s there for a reason: to protect our rights from fascists like Bowser and Mendelson.

Visual acuity testing and an annual training mandate should be added to the 18 hours of pretraining and the psychological screening. This would make most legal gun

      Except there’s no such REAL thing as “illegal possession.” The Constitution does not say, “…shall not be infringed–unless you’re a convicted felon or some bureaucrat thinks you’re a mental defective.” It says, “…the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.” “Infringed” means “INTERFERED WITH.”

            I average between 15-20/hr, sometimes more, but my work is no steady, but by the calendar. So I have busy times, and slower times. It’s been a tough winter, though last week and this week are solid for me. Take care, and stay warm, and thanks for standing with all of gun owners out here. We need to fight the idiots every single day f the week in order to preserve these rights. Better to fight them in the courts, than to have to fight them in the streets. If they continue in their idiocy, it may come to that someday. Hopefully we all can avoid that.     If you don’t want to uphold the Constitution don’t run for office in the first place. The more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens means most criminals won’t be emboldened to commit crimes they wouldn’t have tried without such a deterrent. I realize that “common sense” is not so common anymore, get these people who want to break OUR laws out of office and send them to jail, without any entourage who DO have guns!         I was in the SS office and they had a Fed lady who asked if I had any knives, laughing, I pulled out my keychain with a tiny pink, flowered my hubby gave me yrs ago. She made me take it to my car.

        Later, a very old couple came and were asked, “Do you have any folding little scissors in your purse or pocket?”. The last did…and put in car. I just sat there thinking of the ones I had in my purse. I never thought about them as being so dangerous.

        My husband carried and I always felt safe. I learned to shoot at 12 and still good at 80. Meant lady did…couldn’t

    In New York City before you had to have special permission from Mayor Bloomberg to get one there. After you proved you REALLY needed one. He only thought he was important enough to need protection then. Of course he had all of the NYPD and his private body guard to protect him. He even had NYPD protection when he went to the Bahamas for trips.
    I can only imagine what it is still like in New York ti get a CCW there. And DC is probably even worse. Obama has to approve it first!! I am so glad I left Illinois and Moved the Arizona 10 years ago. The really funny thing is that when I was still in Illinois, I had a CCW permit from Florida……they were more worried about my protection than Illinois. I worked for years to get it in Illinois with the same answers. I was told many times that if they pass a CCW there, “We will have shootouts in the streets” That was from the Chicago bunch….you know the Daley Machine officials. My answer to them was always the same…” You have those shootout every night now, but only the bad guys have guns!!” It was finally pass there now, after a federal judge ordered it and the Madigans allowed it…..or get fined. There are about 10 people that run that state and I am glad to not live there!

Notice that D.C. is high on the criminal list. Murders are very high. The only ones with guns are the bodyguards of elected officials and criminals.     Someone should check to see if any of these 8 people are retired or current law enforcement officers or intelligence officers or some other type of federal employee working and living in the District. This would allow the D.C. Police to issue concealed carry to people who already know how to use a weapon, and who work for another agency already – but who just happen to either live or work in D.C. because of their job with the federal government. It also gives the D.C. Police a “no risk” issuance here – because if these were federal employees, then they know that these guys are not likely going to be getting into a situation where they will need to pull their weapon unless it is absolutely necessary. So, is D.C. really in compliance with the U.S. Constitution… NO! The Constitution does not say you have to apply for a Concealed Carry Permit in order to be authorized to carry a weapon. My final thought on this… how many thugs in D.C. right now are carrying weapons? Did they apply for a Concealed Carry Permit? I would estimate right now that there are about 10,000 thugs with guns walking around D.C. at any given time – combined with about 3000 foreign spies at any given time – and D.C. only issued 8 CC permits! Oh – I used to work in D.C., I know how dangerous it is there. Even with all the law enforcement agencies there – they only respond to a crime, they don’t prevent them from happening!

      Wrong. The Constitution doesn’t “grant” any rights. It merely affirms that your rights EXIST, just by being a free citizen. The 2nd doesn’t say, “The people hereby have the right….” It says, “…the RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE….” therefor declaring that the right ALREADY EXISTS.

        It states the people shall have the right to keep and bear arms, this is what it states and this right , shall not be infringed upon.which means , If I choose to own a firearm and carry it, that is my right. It dose not say I need a permit to carry one.

          No it doesn’t. Read it again. It says “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” It doesn’t say “This constitution hereby grants the people the right to keep and bear arms”…which it would HAVE to in order for the 2nd to GRANT that right. It presupposes that we already HAVE that right by virtue of our being free citizens. The drafters of the Constitution agreed this was a NATURAL right. If it IS a natural right (and I believe it is), then you DON’T need a “permit” issued by some petty government bureaucrat in order to EXERCISE that right.

    The questions I would like answered are:
    1.) Who do these 8 people know in the government?
    2.) What party do these people belong to?
    3.) What do these people do for a living?

    The answers to these questions would explain a LOT as to why the Government is contrary to the Constitution of These United States of America. The “may issue” states need to become “shall issue” when a law abiding Person requests a CCL. There is no explaination necessary other than “I want to be able to protect my life and/or my family’s life. The RIGHT to carry is already given in the Second Amendment.
