Conservative Warns Trump: GOP Planning “Mass Amnesty” Bill Right Now

Fox News host Laura Ingraham warned President Trump this week that Republicans in the House, supported by Speaker Paul Ryan, were planning to vote on an amnesty bill that would act as an end-around to the president’s immigration agenda.

“Warning to @realDonaldTrump: An effort is underway by liberal Repubs (+Dems) on a mass amnesty in the House thru a ‘discharge petition,’ supported by @SpeakerRyan,” Ingraham wrote on Twitter Monday. “Total travesty & mid-term turn-out killer.”

In a follow-up message, Ingraham wavered on whether or not Ryan was involved but insisted that her warning was no less urgent.

“To clarify: @SpeakerRyan does NOT publicly support the discharge petition,” she wrote. “GOP must stick with the clear & principled push for Kate’s Law, no funding for sanctuary cities, MS-13 bill. Amnesty won’t pass in Senate anyway. #NoDischargePetition”

So, the deal is basically this: A collection of about a dozen House Republicans are apparently feeling the pressure from the business sector that funds their campaigns. Aligned with interests that want to keep a steady flow of cheap labor coming over the border (one way or the other), these Republicans are worried that unless they make a play for amnesty, the campaign coffers will dry up. So these Republicans are teaming up with the Democrats to “force” a vote on four separate DACA bills, only one of which is likely to carry the day – the one that grants blanket deportation immunity to more than three million illegal immigrants, no strings attached.

As Ingraham clarified in her second tweet, Ryan has publicly opposed this process, saying that it is, at best, a pointless action that will be met with a Trump veto even if it were to pass the Senate. And even before we get to this point, the Republicans who have signed on to this plan would need to talk another seven of their colleagues into the program. It’s not clear they can find seven more RINOs willing to make a stand against the president and the speaker, even if they do so under the guise of “voting now for more border security,” which is a laugh if we’ve ever heard it.

Trump has been very clear about what he wants to see in a Dreamers bill. He wants an end to chain migration, he wants an end to the Diversity Visa Lottery, and he wants funding for the wall. Short of that, Democrats and pro-amnesty Republicans are wasting their time. If they want amnesty for the Dreamers, the White House has laid out a plan to get it. Trump is not anti-DACA, but he is not about to legalize millions of illegal immigrants without getting something significant in return. This is Politics 101, and any Republican who thinks there is career viability in pandering to immigration activists is…well, dreaming.
