Danish Man Fined for Anti-Islam Facebook Post

In Denmark, where the government is nearly as protective over their incoming Muslim migrants as they are over in Germany, a man named Flemming Nielsen has been convicted and fined for Facebook comments he made comparing Islam to the worst villains in European history.

“The ideology of Islam is just as loathsome, disgusting, suppressive and dehumanizing as Nazism. The mass immigration we are now seeing is the most destructive (thing) that has happened for the Danish society in recent history,” Nielsen wrote.

This was enough for Danish prosecutors to accuse Nielsen of “racist” rhetoric, which is punishable under the country’s hate speech codes. Nielsen’s defense – that he was referring only to Islamic radicals and not the entirety of the religion – didn’t wash with prosecutors. They said it “made no difference” at all, which, when you think about it, is a fairly interesting take on it. Almost as interesting as convicting someone of “racist” speech when they made no comments about race.

There is a certain amount of irony that Nielsen accused Islam of being “suppressive” before having his speech condemned by the Denmark government.

Still, things could be worse. According to a poll taken last year, 40% of Danish Muslims believe that the country’s laws should be at least partially based on the Koran. 10% believe the Koran should be the sole source of law in Denmark. This, despite the fact that Muslims only make up 5% of the nation’s population. Well, for now anyway.

Denmark, Germany, and other European countries open to Muslim migration are trying mightily to clamp down on any speech that opposes this massive cultural shift. In a way, it is the perfect mirror to what’s happening in the U.S. Islamic terrorism isn’t the problem, people who say bad stuff about Muslims are the problem. This is a worldview where it’s more offensive to hold a “Draw Mohammad” contest than to open fire on said event. The only difference is that Americans are protected by the First Amendment. Well, for now anyway.

Contrary to what liberals think, suppressing alternative viewpoints does not make them disappear. In fact, it may actually strengthen them. When bad ideas are brought out into the light and destroyed by logic, they lose their power. Unfortunately, they can’t afford to do that in this case because there is no logical argument against people who know the truth about Islam. Why do you think Islamic countries are so oppressive? Why do you think Al Qaeda and ISIS exist?

When words fail, violence is the only recourse.
