27-year-old Jackson Cosko was taken into custody by U.S. Capitol Police on Wednesday after investigators learned that the Democratic intern was responsible for “doxxing” at least one of the Republican senators who had their personal information leaked onto the internet last week.
While reports surrounding the IP addresses of those who edited Wikipedia centered around the offices of Rep. Maxine Waters, the actual perpetrator worked for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas. Cosko has also worked in the past for other Democratic lawmakers like Sen. Maggie Hassan, Sen. Barbara Boxer, and Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Whether or not he ever worked for or in the offices of Waters is unclear.
What is clear is that Cosko believes in Waters’ mantra, which is to disrupt and harass the lives of Republicans who challenge the liberal agenda. Republicans Lindsey Graham, Mike Lee, and Orrin Hatch all had their private information published on Wikipedia on the day the Senate Judiciary Committee was questioning Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford. All three Republicans sit on the committee, and all three have expressed their support for Kavanaugh’s nomination. While there’s been no official word on Cosko’s motivations, we don’t exactly need Sherlock Holmes to help us connect the dots.
Capitol Police announced Wednesday that Cosko would be charged with making public restricted personal information, tampering with witnesses, making interstate communication threats, accessing a government computer without authorization, identity theft, second-degree burglary, and unlawful entry. Authorities said that even more charges could be added to the mix after they complete their investigation.
Police take the public dissemination of private information seriously, especially in times like these, where political emotions are at a fever pitch thanks to the divisive confirmation hearings. On the Senate floor on Wednesday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the intimidation tactics being used against Republicans were among the worst he’d seen in his long career. Vowing that GOP Senators would not be dissuaded from their duties, he nonetheless decried the tactics.
“Some have seen organized far-left protesters camp out at their homes,” he said.
Given the half-crazed liberal media coverage of Brett Kavanaugh over the last two weeks, it’s hardly surprising that a young Democrat would feel inspired to take matters into his own hands. Major news organizations are stopping just shy (sometimes!) of calling Kavanaugh a serial rapist, and they have convinced millions of Americans that the Republican Party is rushing to put a sexual predator on the Supreme Court. This is the kind of atmosphere that breeds extremism, and extremism breeds violence. And when you have prominent Democrats like Maxine Waters egging these people on, it’s only a matter of time before something truly horrific happens.
In such an environment, top Democratic leaders like Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi should be the loudest voices condemning the doxxing attack that Cosko carried out. Sadly, we’ve yet to hear them utter a peep.
