Democrats Double Down On Supreme Court Leak

(FixThisNation.com) – Two Democrats have sent a letter to former federal judge Michael Chertoff, who was responsible for overseeing the Supreme Court’s probe into the leaked draft opinion.

In the letter, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.), have requested more details regarding the investigation. The two men have criticized the probe and have called for stronger ethics rules that need to be followed by the justices.

According to a CNN report late last month Chertoff has financial ties to the court. The probe into the leak did not reach a conclusion on who was responsible for leaking the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Progressives have also been critical of how the Justices were not asked further questions, while court employees were asked to sign sworn affidavits and hand over their devices as part of the investigation.

The marshal had also said that he “spoke” to the justices and that he had been replying to the questions that they had while he also asked his own questions. Chertoff previously served as Homeland Security secretary and has claimed that the probe was “thorough.” However, as he had not previously disclosed his financial ties to the court the two lawmakers have now become critical of the investigation.

Whitehouse and Johnson point out in their letter that the Court has not yet provided an explanation as to the reason that a third-party review was necessary and they also did not disclose their connection to the reviewer in question.
