Democrats Hate Oil Companies (But They’ll Take Their Money!)

Despite directing much of their political platform against fossil fuels and in favor of green, energy-killing regulations, Democrats accepted more than $7 million from oil and gas companies during the 2016 election.

While that’s a drop in the bucket compared to what these companies spend on Republicans – who, after all, are not actively trying to destroy their industry – it’s not nothing. And in a midterm election race that promises to be extremely tight, Democrats apparently aren’t willing to leave any money on the table. Their need to raise funds is such that, only two months after voting to ban fossil fuel companies from donating to the party, the Democratic National Committee voted this week to overturn that ban and take that sweet, sweet cash after all.

Climate zealots, who overwhelmingly support the Democratic Party, were naturally outraged by what they see as an out-and-out betrayal.

R.L. Miller, the president of Climate Hawks Vote, told the Huffington Post that the new resolution was unacceptable.

“I am furious that the DNC would effectively undo a resolution passed just two months ago just as the movement to ban fossil fuel corporate PAC money is growing (and Democrats are winning,” he said.

Instead of being forthright and honest in their backtracking resolution (Yo, we need the money, guys!), the DNC couched the reversal as a gift to laborers.

“The DNC reaffirms its unwavering and unconditional commitment to the workers, unions and forward-looking employers that power the American economy,” read the resolution. “We will continue to welcome the longstanding and generous contributions of workers, including those in energy and related industries, who organize and donate to Democratic candidates individually or through their unions’ or employers’ political action committees.”

Truthfully, the fact that any Democrats are accepting PAC money from any industry, much less the EVIL fossil fuel industry, is hypocrisy in the raw. These liberals spend every election cycle complaining about so-called “dark money” in politics and blasting the Supreme Court’s “Citizens United” decision. But when push comes to shove and they have the opportunity to put their money where their mouths are, they instead hold out their grubby little hands and take cash from every dark entity willing to hand it out. That tells you something about where the party’s true loyalties lie and how much of what they peddle is just fiction for the gullible.
