Democrats (Predictably) Bash Trump for Decisive Military Retaliation
Leave it to the Democrats to find fault with one of the most decisive and effective military strikes of Trump’s presidency. Only a day after Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei taunted the president by saying he was powerless to “do anything” about the Iranian-led siege of the Baghdad embassy, a drone caught Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani entering Iraq…and blew him off the face of the planet.
Soleimani, whose blood-stained path of destruction can hardly be calculated, was one of the highest-value U.S. military targets of all time – right up there with Osama bin Laden and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and arguably more important than both. And what are Democrats doing on Friday in the wake of the news? Celebrating? Congratulating Trump and the military for a job well done?
Of course not.
“Soleimani was an enemy of the United States. That’s not a question. The question is this — as reports suggest, did America just assassinate, without any congressional authorization, the second most powerful person in Iran, knowingly setting off a potential massive regional war?” tweeted Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT).
Yeah, yeah, we know Soleimani was a bad dude. We know he has the blood of Americans on his hands. And we know that he was headed into Iraq to plan and carry out more violence against American troops and diplomats. But gee, couldn’t we have gone the usual route and just, you know, done nothing about it? Couldn’t we have hemmed and hawed and debated while we wait for Iran to make the next move? Gee, all they did was storm our embassy gates, set a few fires, and chant “Down with America.” We couldn’t have looked the other way?
The other Democrat from Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal, joined his colleague in condemning Trump’s dish of rich justice.
“Trump Admin owes a full explanation of airstrike reports—all the facts—to Congress & the American people,” Blumenthal wrote. “The present authorizations for use of military force in no way cover starting a possible new war. This step could bring the most consequential military confrontation in decades. My immediate concern is for our brave Americans serving in harm’s way.”
Quite the contrary, Dick. Your immediate concern is that a strike this effective and powerful against one of America’s fiercest enemies might cause Trump’s approval ratings to tick up a few points. Indeed, that’s your only concern.
Ooh, here’s a hot take from Hollywood.
“Dear #Iran, The USA has disrespected your country, your flag, your people. 52% of us humbly apologize. We want peace with your nation. We are being held hostage by a terrorist regime. We do not know how to escape. Please do not kill us. #Soleimani,” wrote washed-up actress Rose McGowan.
Seek help, Rose.
Put plainly: The Iranian Quds Force/IRGC is labeled an international terrorist organization by the United States. That makes Qassem Soleimani a terrorist leader – and one of the worst in the world, at that. Thursday night’s strike was necessary, deserved, and long overdue. Iran is on notice: The U.S. you knew under Barack Obama is not the U.S. of today. Plan accordingly.
