(FixThisNation.com) – The House of Representatives passed an amendment with bipartisan support that would stop the Department of Energy (DOE) from forcing stricter regulations on gas stoves and most stoves that are currently available on the market.

The amendment from Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Ala., to a large energy policy bill was passed through the House after 29 Democrats joined the House Republicans in a 251-181 vote. Republicans have been pushing for the use of gas stoves ever since the Consumer Product Safety Commission first indicated that they were looking into options for banning gas stoves over health reasons and concerns. However, the idea was later dismissed but it was shortly followed by stricter regulations proposed by the DOE for more energy efficiency standards to be associated with gas stoves.

Palmer, head of the House Republican Policy Committee, criticized the majority of House Democrats for not supporting his amendment and claimed that House Democrats are effectively supporting the federal attempts to ban gas stoves.

He continued to state that the Department of Energy is attempting to ban gas stoves, and Republicans are responding to these attempts “to dismantle American energy head-on.” He added that they would continue to fight so that Americans would have the right to choose which appliances they want in their homes.

Last month, in a proposed rule posted online and a subsequent analysis it was found that around half of the gas stoves currently on the market would not meet the new standards.
