Elizabeth Warren is Magically OK With High-Dollar Fundraisers Again
Now that there’s no more pressure to try and get to the left of Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic primaries, Sen. Elizabeth Warren has abandoned some of the moral high-horse philosophies she tried to propagate on the campaign trail. Vying for a spot on Joe Biden’s ticket, Warren is already moving away from her “Medicare-for-all” proposal that was a transparent attempt to out-commie the Vermont socialist. And now, only a few short months after raking Pete Buttigieg over the coals for daring to hold that “wine cave” fundraiser, Warren is set to hold a high-dollar fundraiser for the former vice president.
Life is easier when your values can change to match the situation!
From the NY Times:
Senator Elizabeth Warren, whose full-throated opposition to high-dollar fund-raising events was a central tenet of her presidential campaign, has agreed to host such a gathering of donors for Joseph R. Biden Jr., the presumptive Democratic nominee, who is considering her to be his running mate.
The online event is set to take place on June 15, according to three people with knowledge of the plans, who spoke under condition of anonymity to share the details.
During her presidential run, Ms. Warren explicitly vowed not to attend private fund-raisers or dial up rich donors. A Massachusetts progressive, she championed tax increases on the wealthy and at times sharply criticized big-money donors. Her rise in public opinion polls last summer deeply concerned many veteran Democratic donors, particularly those on Wall Street and in the banking sector who believed she would damage their industries.
Of course, accepting money from the rich and powerful is nothing new when it comes to Warren’s political career. It’s a big part of why she’s a Massachusetts senator. It was only when she waded into the 2020 presidential circus that she tried to make this “above it all” thing a part of her persona – mostly in an attempt to compete against Sanders, who famously depends solely on small donors for his campaign war chest. Now that all that unpleasantness is over, Warren can go back to doing what she’s always done: Depending on the rich while simultaneously demonizing them in her political rhetoric.
In a Washington swamp filled to the brim with hypocrites and two-faced slimeballs, Warren has accomplished the impressive feat of being the worst of them all. It’s rare that an opportunist liar is this brazen about their commitment to situational ethics.
Heaven only knows what her Native American ancestors would think…
