“Go to Hell”: Gen. John Kelly Lashes Out at Anti-Military Teacher

In an interview with Fox News Radio on Wednesday, White House chief of staff John Kelly let loose on a California teacher who recently told students that he had no respect whatsoever for people who joined the military, referring to them derisively as “the lowest of the low.” Kelly, a retired five-star Marine general, was characteristically outspoken when defending the military and the people who bravely serve in this country’s armed forces.

“Well,” he said, “I think the guy ought to go to hell. I just hope he enjoys the liberties and the lifestyle that we have fought for.”

The teacher in question is Gregory Salcido from El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California.

Salcido, who teaches history and serves on the city council, was caught on videotape disparaging the military after questioning why one of his students was thinking about joining the armed forces after graduation. Salcido went on a long rant about how long the wars have raged in the Middle East, crediting these failures to the caliber of individual who signs up for the military.

“Because we have a bunch of dumbshits over there,” Salcido said. “Think about the people who you know who are over there. Your freaking stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They’re dumbshits. They’re not like high-level thinkers, they’re not academic people, they’re not intellectual people. They’re the lowest of our low.

“I don’t understand why we let the military guys come over here and recruit you at school. We don’t let pimps come in the school,” he continued.

In addition to questioning the class and intellect of those joining the military, Salcido appeared to take a shot at the credibility of the U.S. armed forces as well. “We couldn’t beat the Vietnamese,” he noted. “They are a bunch of people this big throwing rice at us, and we couldn’t beat them.”

Salcido, of course, was not over there lending his support.

Seeing a public relations disaster in the making, the Pico Rivera City Council quickly issued a statement denouncing the remarks.

“We the elected governing body of the City of Pico Rivera unequivocally disagree and condemn the recent comments made by Councilmember Salcido regarding those individuals who have served or are currently serving in our nation’s military,” the statement said.

That statement was followed by another from the El Rancho Unified School District. “The morning our District is the center of attention over a video on social media where one of our teachers appears to disrespect the family values of our students and families in the classroom,” the statement said. “Our classrooms are not the appropriate place for one-sided discussions that undermine the values our families hold dear. We are investigating. We will find out exactly what happened and take all appropriate action to ensure that the values of our students and families are respected in our schools.”

It’s always unfortunate to run into one of these cretins who has some kind of nonsensical axe to grind with the U.S. military, but we’re pleased to see the reaction. The left may be winning the culture wars in more ways than we’d like to admit, but they definitely have not succeeded in turning America against the brave men and women who serve this nation.
