Hell No You Aren’t Taking Anyone’s AR-15, Beto O’Rourke
A great many Democrats said a great many worrying things at the third presidential primary debate on Thursday, but none of them were as colorful as Beto O’Rourke, who tried to get a network-friendly version of his roadshow obscenity tour on the stage when he promised that, “hell yes,” he was gonna round up America’s semi-automatic rifles when he becomes president.
“The high-impact, high velocity round, when it hits your body shreds everything insider your body because it was designed to do that, so that you would bleed to death on the battlefield,” O’Rourke said at the debate, referring to recent mass shootings.
“When we see that being used against children, and in Odessa, I met the mother of a 15-year-old girl who was shot by an AR-15 and that mother watched her bleed to death over the course of an hour because so many other people were shot by that AR-15 in Odessa, there weren’t enough ambulances to get to them in time,” he said. “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against a fellow American anymore.”
Oh, Beto. Hell no, you’re not.
Firstly, you’re not going to do that because you’re not going to be president anytime soon. Second, even if you or one of your likeminded opponents does luck into the presidency at some point, you’re going to run into an inconvenient little thing called the Second Amendment. You may not get that, but when even MSNBC host Chris Matthews understands what you don’t…well, that just shows you how far off the Reality Reservation you’ve driven. (A side effect of driving drunk, no doubt).
“Beto came along and said he’s going to not just going to buy back the semi-automatic assault rifles, but demand that they sell them back,” Matthews said in his post-debate remarks. “I don’t know where you get away with that. I noticed that Kamala talked about an executive order. This would be an extraordinary ruling by the Supreme Court that would allow a president to use executive orders to demand the end of ownership of semi-automatic assault weapons.”
Uh, ya think?
We get it, Beto is desperately trying to get his “moment” where he can break away from the pack and actually rise above two or three percent in the polls. For some reason, he thinks cursing is his path to the top of the field (even the mild cursing he could bring to ABC). In reality, it makes him look like a child throwing a tantrum at the expense of American liberty. It’s not pretty.
