Hillary Clinton Has Rare Moment of Lucid Sanity on Immigration
In an interview with the UK’s Guardian newspaper, Hillary Clinton reminded the world that she’s got far more sense than she typically lets on. Temporarily forgetting that she’s supposed to be out there playing a very specific role – that of the pragmatic progressive who can easily roll with the new crowd of raging left-wingers who nearly cost her the 2016 Democratic nomination – Clinton revealed that she’s not as “into” open borders as she pretended during her race with Trump. In fact, she fully recognizes what unrestrained migration has done to Western Europe.
“I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel,” she said, “but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message – ‘we are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support’ – because if we don’t deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic.”
It was the roiling of the “body politic” that Clinton was speaking of in the interview – specifically, the rise of right-wing populism on both sides of the Atlantic.
“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” she acknowledged…without mentioning that it is also largely what fueled her 2016 opponent’s ascension to the White House.
But the hint was there in between the lines, nonetheless, meaning that what Hillary was saying about European migration can only be taken as an acknowledgement that much the same has happened here at home. In other words, Hillary was telling Democrats in the United States: Look, you can’t be all open-borders, “Abolish ICE” right now. The American people are not going to stand idly by and watch you give their country away to a horde of Third World immigrants. They’ll elect Trump (or someone like him) from now until the end of time unless you put someone up there that actually gives a damn about preserving the border!
Clinton is a power hungry narcissist whose primary ideology is forged in nothing more or less significant or moral than what is good for her at the time. But her self-centered lack of ethics still leads her to a more stable ground of common sense than most of her party finds itself dwelling on these days.
Which is a pretty scary thought.
