Islamic Congresswoman Under Fire for Anti-Semitic Tweet

Only a month has passed since Congress welcomed the first two Muslim women into its hallowed halls, and they’ve already so much controversy that they might turn out to be the last.

Any Jewish Democrat who spent money on the campaigns of Rep. Ilhan Omar or Rep. Rashida Tlaib has to be wishing they could get a refund right about now. And it won’t be long before any Jewish voter who actually cast a ballot for one of these two loons will be denying it up one side and down the other. This is quickly turning into a national embarrassment for the Democratic Party, a (very) bad look for the Muslim-American community, and a real problem for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

On Sunday night, Rep. Omar (again) flirted with anti-semitism when responding to a tweet from journalist Glenn Greenwald – who just happened to be defending Omar’s anti-semitism in the original tweet!

“Equating [Omar and Tlaib’s] criticism of Israel to Steve King’s long defense of white supremacy is obscene (McCarthy said it’s worse). In the US, we’re allowed to criticize our own government: certainly foreign governments,” wrote Greenwald. “The GOP House Leader’s priorities are warped.”

Omar retweeted Greenwald, adding: “It’s all about the Benjamins.” This, of course, means that Republican politicians are being paid by DARK JEW MONEY to support Israel.

When asked by another Twitter user to explain exactly where this money is coming from, Omar wrote: “AIPAC.”

This is plainly false, seeing as how AIPAC as an organization does not send donations to individual politicians, nor any political groups at all. It is a lobbying organization, granted, and it does have very strong views on the American-Israeli relationship, but you can’t leap from those facts to a reckless insinuation that AIPAC is paying Kevin McCarthy and other top Republicans to pursue the interests of Israel.

But the facts here actually matter less than the insinuation, which ignores the long history of the “Dark Jew Money” trope and its connection to anti-semitism, Nazism, and some of the worst ideologies found in Muslim countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Somalia. And Omar’s latest comments cannot be divorced from the fact that she is virulently anti-Israel, pro-BDS (Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions), and has a history of disturbing remarks. This includes one 2012 comment, in which she said that Israel had “hypnotized the world.” She’s apologized for that one in recent weeks, but she can’t seem to help herself. Her true colors keep bleeding through.

House Minority Leader McCarthy released a statement condemning the tweet.

“One of my greatest honors is leading new members on a bipartisan trip to Israel to showcase the shared values and unbreakable bond between our countries,” McCarthy said. “Anti-Semitic tropes have no place in the halls of Congress. It is dangerous for Democrat leadership to stay silent on this reckless language.”

It remains to be seen if Pelosi will issue a statement denouncing Omar.

If this episode shows us anything, it’s that the Democratic Party (and the left in general) have a real problem with anti-semitism. Whether it’s in the leadership ranks of the Women’s March or inside Capitol Hill, they are showing the world who they really are. Worse, they are threatening the special relationship we have with one of our most important global allies.

Next time some jihadist decides to spill the blood of Americans, it’s going to be very, very interesting to see how Omar and Tlaib react. Moreso, it will be interesting to see how the leadership of the Democratic Party reacts to their reactions. It could be extremely telling.

And extremely frightening.
