Judge Blocks Obama’s Transgender Directive to Schools
With everything going on in America today, it’s easy to fall into a deep pessimism about the future of this country. Under President Barack Obama, we have shifted so far away from our collective cultural values that it sometimes seems hard to imagine a way back. Conservatives are constantly on the watch for “what’s next,” standing by hopelessly as a once-great nation drifts toward annihilation.
But every once in a while, a ray of sunshine breaks through the thunderclouds. Those glimpses afford us the comfort of knowing – if only for a moment – that the America we love is still very much alive. Battered, weakened, and disastrously off-course? Yes. But liberal Democrats have not yet drained all the color out of the red, white, and blue.
From USA Today:
A federal judge in Texas has sided with school districts opposing the Obama administration’s directive on transgender bathrooms, temporarily blocking the directive just before the first day of school in Texas Monday.
The ruling prevents the U.S. Department of Education from implementing guidance that required school districts to allow transgender students to choose which restroom and locker facilities to use.
Ah…bask in the warmth.
When the Obama administration issued that directive to public schools earlier this year, they claimed to derive authority from Title IX, the 1972 law aimed at eliminating sex discrimination. But U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor said that no such authority existed.
Noting that Title IX explicitly mandates that “facilities provided for students of one sex shall be comparable to such facilities provided for students of the other sex,” the judge said that it “cannot be disputed that the plain meaning of the term ‘sex’ meant the biological and anatomical differences between male and female students as determined at their birth.”
Now, you don’t want to think about the preceding paragraph too deeply or you’ll spoil your sunshine. Because as wonderful as it is to see the comforting light of sanity, it’s depressing to think that we’ve reached the point where we need a judge to tell us the difference between boys and girls. Think back 20 years ago; could you have ever dreamed that our culture would degrade to this point?
Yeah, the warmth is fleeting.
Let’s appreciate this victory, but let’s not forget that Obama’s transgender directive is just one symptom of a much broader infection. Only by consistently battling this illness – godless liberalism – at its roots can we restore this country to greatness.
