There will come a day when liberal Democrats – particularly but not limited to those liberals who make a living in Hollywood and the media – will wake up and realize that no one did more to aid Donald Trump’s political rise than they did. With every measure of their asinine resistance and their overexaggerated threats and their fake news and their overdone piousness, they forced Americans to plug their ears and shake their heads and ignore them completely.
We’re now two years into the Trump presidency. Muslims are not in concentration camps. Illegal immigrants are not being deported by the millions. The economy has not collapsed. We’re not in the throes of nuclear war. Point is, all of the Nervous Nellies on the left created the Grand Existential Threat that was Donald J. Trump out of thin air and even now, they cannot take a sober look at his presidency and admit that they were way off base. In fact, some of them are still hitting those old, tired lines that any sensible American – no matter their political affiliation – rejected a long time ago.
Of course, it’s our fault for expecting anything more out of a washed-up radical like Jane Fonda.
“If you’ve read anything about the rise of the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler, you will see the parallels,” Fonda said at the Women’s Media Awards this weekend. “Attacking the media is the first step in the move towards fascism. The cornerstone to democracy is an independent, democratic media.”
We certainly have Democratic media.
After directly telling the audience that President Trump – voted into office by 62 million Americans – was bringing the Fourth Reich to the United States, Fonda complained that “civility” is under attack.
“And we don’t have to take it anymore,” she said. “Voting is the way to stop it. Everybody has to vote.”
Actually, the way to stop it, insofar as there is something that needs to be stopped, is to quit contributing to the problem, Jane. We know that might not sit well with your overinflated ego, but it’s the truth. Liberals like you have been screaming for years now that Republicans will be the death of this country. Not politically, but existentially. Don’t pretend this started with Trump. You’ve been ringing this bell since Reagan, if not before. And yet, here we all still are, waiting for the Nazis to come barging into our homes.
And we’ll still be here when Trump is gone and the next Evil Republican Threat looms on the horizon.
