Liberals Horrified By Trump’s “Stop and Frisk” Proposal

Donald Trump championed the police technique of “stop and frisk” on Wednesday in an interview with Sean Hannity that’s scheduled to air on Thursday night. While it’s not clear whether Trump meant Chicago alone or law enforcement agencies around the country, his comments raised the ire of liberals who used it as another excuse to accuse Trump of bigotry.

Asked what he would do about violence in the black community, Trump said:

“I would do stop-and-frisk. I think you have to. We did it in New York, it worked incredibly well and you have to be proactive and, you know, you really help people sort of change their mind automatically.

“I see what’s going on in Chicago, I think stop-and-frisk,” Trump continued. “In New York City it was so incredible, the way it worked. Now, we had a very good mayor, but New York City was incredible, the way that worked, so I think that could be one step you could do.”

Current New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who came into office on a platform of ending the “stop and frisk” policies defended by his predecessors Michael Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani, said those policies were responsible for “creating tremendous tension between police and community.”

Appearing on the Rachel Maddow Show, de Blasio said, “What Donald Trump wants to do is build a second wall between police and community. That’s what would occur if we reinstated stop and frisk.”

In a call-in to Fox & Friends the next day, Trump said he was only talking about bringing the policies to Chicago, where shootings were out of control.

“You can’t let the system go the way it’s going but I suggested stop and frisk and some people think it’s a great idea and some people don’t like it, but when you have 3,000 people shot and so many people dying, it’s worse than some of the places we’re hearing about like Afghanistan, you know, the war-torn nations,” Trump said.

New York City’s stop and frisk policies were ruled unconstitutional by a U.S. District Court in 2013. The judge – Shira Scheindlin – based her ruling in part on the fact that Hispanics and blacks were far more likely to be targeted for stops than whites. Under the new liberal rules of society, any policy that disparately effects minorities is declared automatically racist and discriminatory. Even if minorities were responsible for more than, oh let’s say, 90% of violent crime in New York City. Which they were. And are.

But then we’re right back to the profiling debate. Well, if you’re patrolling a high-crime neighborhood, guess who makes up the majority of the population, criminal and otherwise? But under the idiotic worldview of de Blasio, we should spend all of our time shaking down white tourists in Times Square, sending Grandma through the X-Ray security machine, and spending our anti-terrorism resources on the Patriot Society or whatever extremist white group we can find.

Trump has done this country a great service. Whether he’s right on every issue (or even on this one), he’s at least willing to say the things that liberals don’t want said. A little dose of honesty can help us move this conversation forward a lot faster.
