Maher Blames Conservative Media for Shooting
The left will always look for someone or something to blame other than the killer himself. The killer is never fully responsible for his or her actions. Something drove little Dylann Roof to commit these heinous deeds. And it is the job of every liberal pundit to find out what that something is.
Comedian Bill Maher took his shot in the dark in an interview with The Daily Caller’s Matt Lewis. “We can never know why someone snaps, but I bet you I know where he got his news,” said Maher. “I looked at your website the last week. There were a lot of stories about black people. A lot of stories. Same with Matt Drudge. I think they present a really twisted view. I’m not surprised this guy thought ‘they’re taking over the country.’”
And so it is that we have the first attempts to make a connection between conservative media and this shocking tragedy. Maher’s comments came before investigators revealed Roof’s real news source – a white supremacist website that he claims “changed his life” – but since when is speculation inhibited by the facts? As far as Maher is concerned – and he’s not alone – Fox News, The Daily Caller, Rush Limbaugh, and other forms of conservative media are as responsible for this tragedy as Roof himself.
This isn’t the first time liberals have tried to pin violence on conservatism. Before the truth came out about Jared Loughner – the man who shot Gabby Giffords – several analysts tried to draw a line between the gunman and the Tea Party. According to the left, people like Roof read messages of hate and are then inspired to act upon those messages with violence. It never occurs to them that what they are reading and hearing is not hate but simply the truth.
It is a fact, not an opinion, that there is something deeply wrong with the black community in many areas of the country. The crime statistics say it all. Once again, though, the left doesn’t want to blame the perpetrators. They want to blame systemic racism, stingy Republicans, an unfair justice system, anything they can put their hands on that will take the responsibility out of the hands of the criminals. Fighting back against that weak worldview is not racism. It’s not “twisted.” And no sane individual would use this reporting as a justification for violence.
It’s not easy to poke holes in this kind of worldview. Facts have no standing. Liberals are guided by emotion, not reason. And they are emotionally incapable of looking at a murderer and saying, “You did this, you own it, and you deserve to burn for it.” It’s not in their makeup. And that’s fine.
All we can do is preach to those who have yet to make up their minds. The people who could be swayed in one direction or the other. We don’t necessarily have to turn them into conservative converts; we must only explain that just because liberals see hatred on Fox News doesn’t mean it’s there. And until these liberals admit the media’s role in provoking the riots of Ferguson and Baltimore, they have a lot of nerve to even suggest that conservatives are to blame for Charleston.
