(FixThisNation.com) – House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has called for the Architect of the Capitol Brett Blanton to either resign or be removed from his position. President Biden is the only one who can remove Blanton from his position.
Following an inspector general report which disclosed how Blanton had allegedly impersonated a law enforcement officer and how he had misused a government vehicle and used it as a family vehicle, outrage from both political sides has led to an increasing number of people calling for Blanton’s removal.
In a tweet, McCarthy noted that Blanton “no longer has my confidence to continue in his job.” He added that he should either resign or be fired by the President.
McCarthy is not the only one calling for his removal. House Admin Committee Chairman Steil and ranking member Morelle (D-N.Y.) have also called for his resignation. Steil in a statement specifically said that the report was “highly concerning” and that Blanton’s “refusal to be transparent and truthful” has consolidated the fact that he should no longer lead the organization and should instead resign.
A report initially published by the inspector general in October reported that Blanton’s misuse of the government vehicle as a personal vehicle had led to $14,000 worth of unapproved costs. It also noted that during a hit-and-run near his residence, Blanton had identified himself as an off-duty police officer. These are allegations that Blanton has denied stating that he had been identified as a “Capitol Police Board Member.”
