(FixThisNation.com) – Speaker McCarthy slammed DHS Sec. Mayorkas during his recent visit to the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday. McCarthy during a press conference from Cochise County, Arizona laid the grounds for potential impeachment. He said that it was time for Mayorkas to “stop lying to the American public” and asserting that the border is “secure.” He continued to say that it was time to look at the regulations they have had before so that they can secure the border once again. McCarthy did not specify what lies Mayorkas had told, however, the Republicans have repeatedly criticized him for claiming during a congressional hearing last year that the U.S.-Mexico border was secure.
House Republicans have also accused Mayorkas of not having established “operational control” over the border. The term was first coined in the Secure Fence Act of 2006, a law that stated operational control of the border meant that “all unlawful entries” into the country should be prevented.
McCarthy has not directly endorsed Mayorkas being impeached, but he had previously called on him to resign and had warned that the House GOP would investigate him to determine if an impeachment inquiry is necessary.
He added that there had been no legislation change between President Trump to President Biden’s administrations and yet the number of immigrants coming from the region into the U.S. has increased from 66,000 people to 250,000 people.
