Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), in an interview with Huntsville’s WVNN radio on Monday, said that while Nikki Haley’s claims that former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson were working to undermine the president may be interesting, they added up to nothing more than the sort of “palace intrigue” that affects any administration.
Brooks said that the real threat came from people like the Ukraine whistleblower who are essentially operatives for the Democratic Party, working to bring down President Trump from the inside.
“It becomes a real problem when you have people like the whistleblower, who is, in fact, a spy in my judgment,” Brooks said. “And he was a spy on behalf of the Democratic Party, Joe Biden and who knows whom else. And I suspect he went into the White House knowing he was going to spy and he was going to try to undermine the president of the United States as best he could. Now when you have someone of that nature, that is a real problem.”
Brooks, for the time being, is maintaining radio silence on the whistleblower’s name, which has become an open secret on conservative media. But even if Brooks isn’t saying the name “Eric Ciaramella,” he’s clearly clued in on the CIA analyst’s past.
Ciaramella worked under former CIA boss John Brennan, himself one of the architects of the phony Trump/Russia investigation that put handcuffs on this administration for the first two years of Trump’s presidency. Ciaramella also worked closely with 2020 Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden on matters relating to – what else? – America’s policy with Ukraine.
“To me, we need to look long and hard at this whistleblower,” Brooks continued, “and there ought to be a determination as to whether he should be fired if he violated any laws that relate to the confidentiality of communications between the president of the United States, on the one hand, and the president of the Ukraine on the other, because his doing what he did as a spy on behalf of the Democrats, has created a significant amount of friction between the United States of America, Ukraine and who knows who else.”
Brooks, like most of the president’s defenders, recognizes the obvious truth: Eric Ciaramella does not deserve the title of “whistleblower,” nor any of the protections that go along with that status. He had no firsthand knowledge of the communications between Trump and Ukraine. He did not go through the proper whistleblower channels. And his strange alliance with House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) means that this entire situation was tainted with partisan stink from the very beginning.
An investigation that grows from rot can never bear edible fruit. It’s essential for the American people to keep that fact in mind.
