You can always count on MSNBC, and in particular host Joy Reid, to bring the crazy. Sunday morning’s “AM Joy” show was no exception. Discussing (what else) President Trump’s “racist” tweets against the House Squad, Reid and her guests reveled in pushing the conversation to the heights of absurdity, concluding that Trump and his supporters are essentially neo-Nazis who won’t be satisfied until they turn America into a white ethno-state.
After Reid kicked things off by insisting that Trump is trying to inject white nationalism into the 2020 race, panelist Tiffany Cross argued that his supporters were fully on board with that plan.
“I think that this is something that his supporters – and we have to start calling his supporters racists as well,” she said. “That MAGA hat, that MAGA symbol has come to represent something. It is the new Nazi symbol. It is the new Klan hood.”
This isn’t the first time leftists have made that comparison, of course; we heard it again and again after that phony incident at the Lincoln Memorial in January when Trump haters used that hat as an excuse to savagely slander a Christian high school student whose only sin was to smirk at an Indian drummer. But repetition does not make a lie any more true, and there are millions and millions of Trump supporters who would be quite rightly offended if called “racists” for wearing that hat. That is, if they didn’t already know that leftists call anything they don’t like “racist.”
A point Cross herself made with this comment: “Even his language itself is very racist. The term ‘illegal immigrant’ is overwhelmingly offensive.”
Wow.
It was the same story on Reid’s show the day before, when panelist Dean Obeidallah claimed that Trump wanted to inspire violent attacks on Ilhan Omar and other Muslims.
“This is a man who doesn’t just want violence against Ilhan Omar,” he said. “There’s been a spike in LGBT, anti-black hate crimes, anti-Semitic hate crimes. Anyone that’s not white, male and Christian is under the gun and spotlight under Trump. And, sadly, that’s what he wants.
“There have been mosques defaced with the word ‘Trump,’” he continued. “Today, Trump is becoming a modern-day swastika. People have to be aware, it’s no longer a name — it’s shorthand for a symbol of hate. Someone says, ‘I like Trump,’ they’re telling you they’re in for white supremacy — I’m in for bigotry — I’m in for sexism.’ That’s what Trump means now, and I think we have to be aware of it and call it out bluntly.”
Please do. Make it explicit from now on. Make sure everyone knows that this is what the left thinks of anyone who supports Trump.
The landslide next November will make it all well worth it.
