The GOP infighting has created an opportunity for Democratic lawmakers, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is intent on cashing in.

The House of Representatives descended into chaos as House Republicans were unable to vote for the next Speaker. Going into the 14th ballot, GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy of California was unable to secure the 218 votes necessary in order to become the next Speaker. In McCarthy’s case, while he had had the majority since the first ballot, the lack of complete support from his party meant that he was only able to be elected after many concessions were agreed upon.

Nancy Pelosi though did not focus on the chaos in the House of Representatives, but rather on the opportunity that it created. On Friday night, she sent out a fundraising email in which she encouraged Democratic voters to support Democrats by funding their cause. She also pointed out how the Republicans, instead of being eager to get to work, had instead been stalling in selecting a Speaker and thus allowing the lower chamber to resume its duties.

In the email, she went as far as to say that the Republicans had chosen to “disrespect the institution and the American people” while the Democrats were ready to start working. She added that the infighting was further evidence that the GOP was completely incapable of governing.

In the email, she then encouraged “2,621 Democrats” to make $15 donations which would be used to “defeat Republicans’ extreme agenda.”
