According to a new book by Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie, President Donald Trump has been fighting an uphill battle against scores of “embedded enemies” in the White House, Congress, the Justice Department, and other agencies of the federal government since becoming president.
Lewandowski and Bossie, both of whom were instrumental to the Trump 2016 campaign, write in their new book – “Trump’s Enemies: How the Deep State is Undermining the Presidency” – that the will of the American people is being thwarted by an internal government “resistance” against Trump and his agenda.
These officials inside the administration “attack the administration with a thousand cuts,” the authors argue. “They do this in complete disregard to the millions of Americans who voted for Donald Trump. They do it only for their own ends. There are far too many people in the deep reaches of the federal government who harbor as deep a hatred of Trump as does anyone from the Clinton/Obama cabal. The thing is, they get away with it when no one is looking.”
The narrative, as conveyed by Lewandowski and Bossie, is similar in tone and revelation to the infamous NY Times anonymous op-ed published a few months ago, which revealed a “resistance” within the administration.
It also has parallels to the Bob Woodward book, “Fear,” in which the journalist revealed that some in the White House, including former economic chief Gary Cohn, were working around the clock to push back against President Trump’s agenda – even to the point of removing important documents from Trump’s desk to prevent him from following through on specific trade policies. One can only imagine how much worse the resistance is when you travel further into the so-called deep state.
Unlike Woodward’s book, however, the one released by Lewandowski and Bossie features direct access to the president himself. Trump sat down for an interview with the authors in late September, at which time he made a surprising – but probably accurate – admission in regards to the Mueller investigation.
“I think it makes by base stronger,” Trump said of the witch hunt. “I would have never said this to you. But I think the level of love now is far greater than when we won.”
Trump also reiterated his familiar criticisms of the mainstream media and its coverage of his administration.
“The greatest enemy of this country is Fake News,” he told the authors. “I really mean it. I think that one of the most important things that I’ve done, especially for the public, is explain that a lot of the news is indeed fake.”
