Nikki Haley’s Warning: AOC is Taking “Clear Shot” at Conservative Media
In a tweet from Tuesday, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley warned that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is threatening to use the power of Congress to curtail freedom of the press. After the New York Democrat said their should be a federal commission to “rein in” certain media outlets, Haley said that no one should be confused about what AOC is really proposing.
“AOC is calling for a federal commission to ‘rein in our media,’ in a clear shot at any outlet that isn’t liberal,” Haley tweeted.
Last month, AOC was using her Instagram Live channel to discuss the attack on the Capitol of January 6th when one of her followers asked if Congress has considered proposals on “truth and reconciliation or media literacy initiatives.”
“I can say,” Ocasio-Cortez replied, “there is absolutely a commission being discussed but it seems to be more investigatory, in style rather than truth and reconciliation, so I think that’s an interesting concept for us to explore, and I do think that several members of Congress, in some of my discussions, have brought up media literacy because that is a part of what happened here and we’re going to have to figure out how we rein in our media environment so that you can’t just spew disinformation and misinformation.”
AOC continued: “It’s one thing to have differentiating opinions, but it’s another thing entirely to just say things that are false. So that’s something that we’re looking into.”
Haley was not amused by this obvious threat to the Constitution.
“Few ideas are more dangerous than a govt agency overseeing the media,” Haley tweeted. “Apparently, AOC never read the First Amendment’s guarantee of press freedom.”
Of course, this isn’t the only thing that AOC has said recently that has attracted criticism.
As the New York Post put it: “Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is being dubbed ‘Alexandria Ocasio-Smollett’ as details emerge that she exaggerated the extent of her ‘trauma’ from the Capitol riot, given that she was not at the site of the siege, but in an office building nearby.”
The key to AOC’s success in the Democratic Party is to constantly ensure she is the loudest voice in the room. If that means making grand, unconstitutional threats or stretching the truth about the danger she faced at the Capitol on January 6th, it’s all good. As long as people are still talking about her, that’s all she really cares about.
We could perhaps abide this egomaniac if people weren’t starting to seriously talk about her as a future presidential candidate.
